Barbara grew up in Hanover, Indiana, and attended the college of College of Wooster in Ohio. At Wooster, she earned a B. A. in psychology, and also met her husband, Fred Honhart. The couple celebrated their 57th anniversary last August. She later earned an M. A. and PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Iowa. She also taught Sunday School, and later served as an Elder along with other positions at the church. She was a woman of faith and believed in practicing the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.
Barbara enjoyed reading, traveling, going to shows, watching sports, playing with her grandchildren, and spending time with her pets. She was a huge Michigan State basketball and football fan, and would always treasure the trip she took with her family to Pasadena, California, in 2013 when MSU reached the Rose Bowl and won. One of her favorite places was Pickerel Lake in northern Michigan, where she vacationed annually with her family for much of her adult life. She is survived by her husband, Fred, her sister, Marilyn, her sons, David and Stephen, daughters-in-law Jena and Niki, and her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abby, Katherine, and Matt.
