Age 88, of Mt. Morris, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Genesee Gardens. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am, Friday, October 13, 2023, at SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church. Rev Fr. Kenneth Coughlin to officiate, with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Leonard's family will be present to receive friends from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services. A Knights of Columbus and 4 Degree Chalice Ceremony will take place at the funeral home on Thursday evening. On Friday morning, Leonard will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Leonard "Butch" was born in Flint on July 28, 1935, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter and Martha (Koryciak) Jakowczk. Leonard was a skilled Millwright and started his career at General Motors where he worked for 44 years until his retirement in 2001. Butch married his beautiful wife, Lorna Bowns, on May 19, 1956. Sadly, she preceded him in death on November 12, 2005. Butch then met Alice May LaBelle in 2008 and the two were united in marriage on April 18, 2009. Sadly, she also preceded him in death on April 8, 2023. Butch was a member of the UAW local #599 and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus 4 Degree #0523. He has been a devoted member of SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church for many years. Butch was a member of Dom Polski and enjoyed polka dancing with his beloved wife, Alice. Butch was well known for his part in organizing the Genesee County Little League Baseball as well as his part in volunteering much of his time working as an umpire. To say he had a love for sports would be an understatement. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers every chance he got and was an avid U of M Football fan. Leonard is survived by his daughters: Tamara Chapman, and Shawn Jakowczk; granddaughter, Brandy; 6 stepchildren: Roberta Hoover, Elliott Hoover, Jr. , Larry Hoover, Valerie Smith, Gayle and husband, Scott Van Singel; great-grandsons: Logan and Ryker; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Butch was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorna; second wife, Alice; son-in-law, Michael Chapman; stepson, Dennis Hoover; siblings: Wallace, Marcella, and JoAnne, Dorothy, Patricia, Mary Ann.

Dallas "Dutch" was born in Flint on October 21, 1933, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton and Blanche (Hays) Konoski. Educated locally, Dutch graduated from Flint Northern High School with the Class of 1951. Dutch proudly United States Army, serving as a Specialist 3 Class Technician from April 5, 1956, until his honorable discharge on March 8, 1958. Dutch met and married the love of his life, Mary Isaac, in November 1955. Together they shared 61 wonderful years. Sadly, she preceded him in death on December 2, 2016. Dutch worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a cable splicer supervisor until his retirement in the late 1990s, together with his wife, Mary, they also owned and operated D&M Ceramics in Mt. Morris until 1984. Community involvement was important to Dutch . He was an active member of many organizations such as the Moose Lodge #1437 in Flushing, Auto City Eagles, Polish Legion of American Veterans, and VFW Post #8326. Dutch enjoyed staying busy . After he got home from his day job, he would spend most of his time working out in his garage, fixing lawnmowers for the neighbors, or tinkering on a project. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. He was known for always having a tool in his hands. In his free time, Dutch enjoyed hunting with his brother in Chesaning, going for rides, watching U of M football, police dramas, and parking lot wars. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.Show more

Mrs. Mary Jane (Fischer) Kennard of Vassar, Michigan passed away Friday, November 24, 2023, at the age of 83. Mary Jane was born on April 9, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Peter & Edna (Germain) Fischer. On June 22, 1957, she married Kenneth D. Kennard, and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage before Kenneth passed away in August of 2009. Mary Jane’s pride and joy in her life was her family. Mary Jane leaves to cherish her memory her family. Three sons and a daughter in-law: Kevin Kennard, Kyle Kennard, and Kirk (Lynette) Kennard; grandchildren, Karen Kennard, Samuel Kennard, Katelynn (Ron) Mallory, Kimberlee (Jon) Ward, Amanda (Joshua) Brown, Daniel Kennard (Jen Brinkman), Evan Kennard (Adyson Bryce); great-grandchildren Emma Brown and baby Mallory to be. She also leaves a special Niece Linda (Cecil) Strickler, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Besides her husband and parents, Mary Jane was also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth John (Johny) Kennard. Friends may call at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar, MI (1148 W. Educated locally, he attended Flint Central High School and graduated with the Class of 1961. Butch worked at General Motors for 45 years where he started his career as a lineman and was then promoted to the sanitation department until his retirement in 2006. Butch met and married the love of his life, Brenda Allen, on February 4, 1988. Sadly, she preceded him in death on June 1, 2000. Butch was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and devoted much of his time to helping those in need. Working in the Bishop storehouse handing out food as well as anything else he could do to help those less fortunate was his passion. Butch loved his family and enjoyed family functions and get-togethers. Deer hunting and camping in Gladwin were some of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed woodworking and putting together large puzzles. His dog Gracie was his best friend and he loved her with all his heart. He will be dearly missed. Margaret was born in Flint, on May 11, 1942, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold and Ida (Garder) Swanson. Educated locally, Margaret attended Mt. Morris High School, graduating as the Salutatorian of the Class of 1960. Margaret continued her education after high school, attending Central Michigan University, where she earned her bachelor's degree. After graduation, Margaret returned to her hometown and began working as a teacher for Mt. Morris Middle School. Margaret dedicated 28 years to the school district, retiring in 1992. On July 11, 1964, Margaret married the love of her life, Richard Berian, at the United Methodist Church in Mt Morris. Cooking and creating well-rounded meals was Margaret's specialty. She was an amazing cook. Reading Robert Ludlum novels was one of her favorite pastimes. Margaret loved to fish and enjoyed traveling to Canada where she and Richard would be flown onto a lake, and they were the only people there. It was their private getaway. Margaret had an amazing flower garden and especially enjoyed caring for her peonies. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.Show more

Age 76, of Mt. Morris, passed away peacefully at home on October 25, 2023. In accordance with Blenda's wishes, cremation has taken place. There are no further services scheduled at this time. She began working at the age of 16 at various jobs, such as car-hopping and bartending. She retired in 2009 after working as a server at Red Lobster for 25 years. Blenda was a beautiful soul who loved her family more than anything. She was smart and kind, caring and funny - she loved to joke and had a wonderfully infectious laugh. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. She was also a talented artist who sketched and painted throughout her life. She enjoyed writing and learning new things. She always said that Google was the best invention because she loved having endless knowledge at her fingertips. She loved beauty, animals, and nature along with taking long drives, especially through the fall colors. She was adventurous and enjoyed family trips. She would often embark on a journey with no specific destination in mind to see where it took her. She was full of life, laughter, and love and will be deeply missed by many. Blenda was survived by her daughter, Patti Marshall (Rebecca Ross-Wright) of Mt. Morris; special niece and nephew, Kim McDaniel (Jamie Sutherland) of Burton and Casey Marshall (Mona) of Saginaw; sister, Pat Corder (John) of Clio; longtime companion, Tom Farrar of Flushing; grand-dog, Maggie Moo, and many additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Blenda was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Viran Marshall; siblings Wanda Marshall, Gary Marshall, Bob Curtis, Bill Curtis, Wilma (Curtis) Christian, and J. D. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am, Monday, October 30, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate, with burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Abe's family will be present to receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Sunday evening at 7:00 pm, family, friends, and parish will gather for a Prayer Vigil Service followed by a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Service. On Monday morning, Abe will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Abe was born in Flint on September 4, 1928, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice and Antonia (Dominguez) Guerrero. Educated locally, Abe graduated from Flint Central High School with the Class of 1946. He went on to attend California Polytechnic State University. On March 1, 1949, Abe heeded the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge on February 27, 1953. Upon his return to the States, Abe began his career working for Consumers Energy as a technician for 35 years until his retirement. He then began working at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services, assisting with funeral services, retiring again after over 25 years. Abe met and married the love of his life, Helen Verduzco, on January 31, 1959. Abe was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. He was a lector at St. Mary's and a Eucharistic Minister. Abe was one of the charter members of the Knights of Columbus #4285 Council in 1959. In 1967, he became the Grand Knight and then became a member of the 4th Degree Assembly. He was an active member of the St. Vincent De Paul food ministry, volunteering his time as treasurer. He was a long-standing member of the Planning Commission for the City of Mt. Morris. Abe always gave of himself and his time and was involved in the Special Olympics and Buick Open for 20 years. Abe was a wonderful bowler, and he started his love of bowling as a pinsetter then his love of bowling took over and he was on several leagues including the Knights of Columbus where he bowled for over 65 years until 2020. Along with his love of bowling, he also had a great interest in golf and was on the Knights of Columbus golf team for over 60 years. Abe loved his family and enjoyed coaching his son in football throughout his high school years. Abe loved to read and was an avid newspaper reader. Coffee was one of the things Abe loved most and his Helen made it the best. In his free time, Abe enjoyed watching sports and was an avid U of M Football fan, and was a wonderful dancer. Above all else, Abe loved his family and will be greatly missed. Left to cherish Abe's memory is his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen Guerrero; children: Elisa Albrecht, Steven and wife, Stacey Guerrero; grandchildren: Victor and wife, Rochelle Albrecht, Adam Albrecht, Tristyn Guerrero, Taylor Schoudy-Scott; sister-in-law, Trina Guerrero; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
