Burton Messick Obituary

Burton Lee Messick of Glendale, AZ passed away, peacefully in his home, on April 22, 2023. Burton was born June 9, 1948, in Zion, Illinois to Floyd and Lucy (Peterson) Messick. Raised in Zion, Burt was a 1966 graduate of Zion Benton Township High School. While attending Central Missouri State University, he met Kathy Renfrow and the two were wed on August 15, 1970 in Chillicothe, Missouri. Burt graduated from Central Missouri State in 1971 with a degree in Business Administration and began a career which included retail, real-estate, and banking. He excelled in the field of banking and finance, furthering his education with an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management in 1985 and a graduate degree in banking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. Burt enjoyed chatting with friends and extended family, travel, golf, church, and music. He especially loved his family and watching his children, and later his grandchildren, in all of their various activities and sports. Burt is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Elaine, son: Jason (Melissa) Messick of Wadsworth, IL, daughters: Lindsey (Josh) Coburn of Wauconda, IL, Audrey (Jeremy) Aiken of Antioch, IL; grandchildren: Milena and Jonah Messick, Elena, Levi, Emily, and Brynley Coburn, Jackson, Adelyn, and Deklan Koesser, Maddie and Jonny Aiken; sister: Anita (Bill) Dean, brother in law: Louis (Terry) Renfrow; nephew: Doug Dean; and nieces: Stacie (Herb) Myers, Kelly (Jim) Tokarczyk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lucy Messick, and his in-laws, Louis and Dorothy Renfrow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Zion, PO Box 32, Ellison Bay, WI 54210.
