Caroline Delph

Caroline Delph

Age - 75

December 8, 2023

On November 27, 2023, Caroline Anne (Phipps) Delph passed away peacefully at the age of 75 in her home in Dewey, Arizona. Caroline loved animals. She always had a cherished pet at every stage of her life, whether it be dogs, cats, cockatoos, parrots, horses, or a goldfish, she always found joy in God's creations. She would also enjoy her gardens where she would grow fruits and vegetables alongside some of her favorite flowers. She would often enjoy just sitting and looking at her flowers. She thoroughly enjoyed shopping, especially for jewelry and clothing of all types, and would sometimes allow some of her granddaughters to play "dress up" with her jewelry and other accessories. Caroline was born in Saint Thomas, Ontario to Edmond "Eddie" and Ethel (Slade) Phipps. She spent her early years playing with her brother Dennis and other aunts, uncles, and cousins who lived nearby. Later in her childhood, her family moved to Miami, Florida where she attended and graduated from Miami Southwest High School and later married Frank Whittaker and gave birth to Michael and Robert. As some relationships often do, they drifted apart and later divorced. While working as a secretary in a dental office that was across from an engineering firm in Miami, Caroline met Ralph Delph and dated for 5 years, going on hikes, hunting, fishing, and generally exploring the country before finally marrying in 1977. She joined her young family with Ralph's five daughters Mary "Wendy", Dawn, Natalie "Joy", Virginia "Ginger", and Chris Ann. Caroline later gave birth to sons William "Billy" and Timothy. They lived in a modest home in the lower Florida Keys as Ralph transitioned careers from engineering to becoming a renowned fishing guide. Finances were tight and Caroline was known for baking fresh homemade bread to sell to Ralph's customers and others to help provide some supplemental income. Caroline was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and would regularly attend Sunday services and meetings throughout her life. Caroline loved the Savior Jesus Christ and would often share her faith in Him with those with whom she would spend her time. Ralph's guiding business took them to Montana where they built a log home in Gallatin Gateway in the mid-80s to live during the fall and early winter to enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, and skiing before returning to the Florida Keys for the remainder of winter through early summer. During the late 80s and through the 90s, they would travel with their family to Cape Cod, Massachusetts to fish for Giant Bluefin Tuna to sell on the Japanese market. At the end of summer, Caroline would look forward to visiting her family for a couple of weeks near Port Rowan, Ontario on her way back to Montana. Ralph and Caroline continued this pattern continually until their children had all graduated school and left home. Ralph adopted Michael and Robert. Ralph and Caroline were later sealed to each other for time and eternity in the Orlando, Florida Temple. Ralph and Caroline would travel between their homes at their own pace before eventually selling their home in the Florida Keys. Caroline would often spend time in Canada visiting her parents and other family that lived in Canada until her mother Ethel passed away on June 9, 2010, and her father Edmond "Eddie" passed away on April 28, 2014. A few years later, her companion of 44 years and husband of 39 years passed away from cancer on February 13, 2016. She would also lose a Daughter-In-Law, Piper (Richard) Delph, on April 14, 2018, and a Sister-In-Law, Betty Jean (Delph) Wilson, on July 16, 2018. Caroline returned to Canada for a little while to take some time away before moving to the desert in Dewey, Arizona, and marrying Sam Rucker for the last 5 years of her life. Caroline is survived by her Brother, Dennis Phipps of Hendersonville, NC; Sons, Mike Delph (Edee) of Key West, FL, Rob Delph (Lynda) of Key West, FL, Billy Delph of Sugarloaf Key, FL, Tim Delph (Brooke) of Belgrade, MT; her Step-Daughters, Wendy Roberts (Lane) of Idaho Falls, ID, Dawn Gonzalez (Julio) of Sandy, UT, Joy Sanfilippo (Robert) of Danielsville, GA, Ginger Cardona (Juan) of Davie, FL, Chris Simms (Doug) of Boise, ID and her last husband, Sam Rucker of Dewey, AZ. She had 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and was expecting 2 more great-grandchildren on the way. Services will be held at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service at 113 South Willson Avenue, Bozeman, MT on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 1:30 PM followed by her burial service at 3:00 PM at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman, MT.Show more

Velma Madsen

Velma Madsen

Age - 92

December 6, 2023

Velma Marlene Madsen was born to Soren and Myrtle Rungborg at their home in Reserve, Montana, on January 26, 1931. She was the loving mother of 8 children. She spent her life as a wonderful caretaker of all of them. She made home-cooked meals every night and was a fabulous baker. Born of Danish immigrants, she, along with her husband Dan, kept Danish traditions going with celebrations at Christmas and many Danish dishes served throughout her life. At one time Dan, her dear husband, and her 7 children lived in a cozy, 600 square foot house. With no TV, they spent evenings playing cards and board games. If the weather was nice, and in Montana, that didn't mean warm, she made sure the children all played outdoors. In summer they swam, unsupervised, in their swimming hole. In 1967, Dan had a 5 BR home built for them next door. Her 8th baby was born after that. Velma was finally able to skip trips to the laundromat and do diapers and laundry at home using her new washing machine. After her new home was built, she surprised her children by bringing a family piano home and did a fine job playing it. Many hours were spent with Dan sitting in an easy chair listening to her play while one of her children would be sitting at her side, singing along. She was proud of all her children and thought them all successful. She gave them the freedom to explore the paths they took and supported their choices. She remained dearly loved by each of them. Velma's kindness was apparent by anyone who knew her. She was good to her children, their spouses, their children and spouses, and all the many grandkids that came to visit her. She welcomed the many friends her children brought home, from grade school through the present. Anytime, at any hour, a visitor would be given a seat while Velma brewed a pot of coffee, though she never liked it herself. She'd put together a plate of her homemade cookies and treats, and sandwiches made on her homemade bread. As can be imagined, she had lots of visitors. Velma was also an excellent seamstress. She made many clothes for her children, and mended many more. Until recently, she was still making quilts to give away to her various grandchildren. She loved being a member of the Sew and So club, and had many friends there. While living in ST. Joseph's assisted living in Polson, MT. , she hosted pinochle and bridge parties in her apartment. She was a keen player of all games, and folks were always happy that got her as their card partner. The greatest gift she gave to all who knew her was the wonderful and loving relationship she had with her husband of 68 years, Dan A. Madsen. With a kind wit, they would poke fun at each other, always eliciting a smile from those around them. They never spoke a harsh word to each other and were the best of friends until Dan passed away in 2019. Velma always mentioned how she missed her partner. The thought of their happy reunion makes parting with Velma tolerable. A Memorial is being planned the weekend of July 27, 2024 at her son's event venue in Big Arm, MT, Flathead Lake Forevers.Show more

Jean Guiot

Jean Guiot

Age - 94

November 29, 2023

Our mom took the early afternoon shuttle to Heaven to meet back up with our dad on November 24, 2023. Theirs was a match made for life and Charlie and his "little bride" spent 65 years together. Jean Elizabeth Stucky Guiot was born April 26, 1929 to Ralph and Hazel (Cowan) Stucky. She grew up in the family home at Dry Creek and attended the Dry Creek Bible Church most of her 94 1/2 years. She would often tell people she was a country girl and had never lived in town. Her mother died when she was 5 years old and Grandpa Stucky raised their four children with help from the community "village". She attended elementary school at the little white Dry Creek School with an outhouse out back. In the winter, Grandpa walked his four children to school uphill "both ways" over the drifted snow-covered fences when it was many degrees below zero, just to make sure they arrived safely. He still had to make the return trip home alone. She graduated from Belgrade High School. Mom met our dad, Charles Guiot, through her brother Carroll. The morning they were married, the congregation of the Dry Creek Church knew when they would be passing by and went out to form a human chain by holding hands across the road to wish them well. Their first year of married life was a tough winter with many feet of snow. Mom would sneak through the deep snow to snare a pheasant for a special meal treat. During their life together, they were blest with three children, Joyce Mahana, Mildred (Bea) Dehaan and Chuck Guiot. She was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and great friend during her years on this side of Heaven. She and Dad enjoyed traveling around the state with their fifth-wheel trailer as well as a few out of state trips to various places including Arizona one winter. They were season MSU basketball ticket holders for a number of years. Mom loved watching basketball (and later football). Dad would use his binoculars to scope out friends to visit during half-time. A few days before mom joined dad, shewatched the devastating loss of her Bobcats in the Brawl of the Wild. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, parents and three siblings and spouses, Ray Stucky (Hazel), Dorothy Vogel (George) and Carroll Stucky (Donna); son-in-law Don Dehaan; sister-in law andbrother-in-law Kay and Charlie Blakely and brother-in-law Edwin Tofslie. She is survived by her three children; grandchildren Lori Dehaan (Jason), Angela Lovaas (Paul) and Jeff Mahana (Teresa) and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Alice Tofslie and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the Compassus Hospice staff in Helena, MT who assisted in providing gentle, compassionate care for mom and her family for the last 9 1/2 months. They were uplifting angels and became special friends to each of us. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A. M. on Tuesday December 5th at the Dry Creek Bible Church. Donations can be made to the Dry Creek Bible Church or the Bozeman Health Cancer Center in Bozeman, MT. Her final care is being provided by Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.Show more
