"Henry Charles \u0026quot;Bud\u0026quot; Harjes, Jr. , 89, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 after suffering for 5 years with Lewy Body Dementia. A memorial service honoring Bud\u0027s life will be held on Friday, April 28th at 10:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 5301 82nd Street. The second of three children, Bud was born November 2, 1933, to Henry and Catherine (Kaiser) Harjes in East Newark, NJ. When Bud was 12, the family moved to Milford, PA. When he was 17, Bud joined the Air Force, which brought him to Lubbock, TX in 1953. Here he married and had four children. He served in the Air Force for 4 years (1950-1954). One of the highlights of his life was going on the South Plains Honor Flight to Washington, D. C. in 2019. Bud met the love of his life, Lee McLennan, and they were married in 1993. Bud and Lee shared a love of dancing and traveling and spent over 30 wonderful years together. Bud was known for his outgoing personality, and great sense of humor. An avid bridge player with a quick wit, he always had a joke or story to share. His family would say he never met a stranger. He loved spending time with family, skiing, taking cruises and road trips. Bud was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship and many friends he made over the years. For most of his career, Bud was a truck driver, before retiring to spend more time with family and traveling the world with Lee. He loved driving so much he returned to driving later in life with Trailer Marketing. Bud is survived by his wife, Lee Harjes, his children, Chuck Harjes (Sandi) of Albuquerque, NM, Cindy Anderson (Steve) of Celina, TX, Terrie Mierke (David) of San Diego, CA, and Randy Harjes (Andy) of Sherman, TX, stepson Timothy McLennan of Lubbock, TX, his brother, Raymond Harjes (Arabell) of New Hampton, NY, 9 beloved grandchildren, Trish Kelley (Justin), Corey Graham, Devin Harjes, Andrew Harjes, Brad Harjes, Ross Mierke (Lauren), Alex Mierke (Amanda), Cameron Harjes (Torrie) and Jill Carey (Austin), 10 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 3 nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Catherine Harjes, a stepson, Ted McLennan and a sister, Muriel Gavoille. In lieu of flowers, Bud\u0027s family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Lubbock or Calvary Baptist Church Missions in his memory.
