Manuel Emiliano Rocha Sr. , 75, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023, at his home in Mesquite, Texas, after fighting a hard battle with brain cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and a lifetime of cherished memories. He was born on October 10, 1948, in Terceira, Azores, Altares, Portugal, to Manuel and Emily Rocha, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep sense of family values. He served in the Portuguese Army. After his discharge, he made his way to America with his parents and siblings. On June 18th, 1982, in Visalia, California, Manuel married the love of his life, Maria Margarida Rocha. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. He was a devoted spouse, a loving father, and a doting grand and great-grandfather. Professionally, Manuel was a man of many traits and skills that varied from dairy farming, bull fighting, trucking, HVAC, poetry and play writing and much more. Manuel had a passion for bullfighting and writing his plays for the yearly festas on the island of Terceira, which is enjoyed around the world by all. Whether it was sitting for hours at his desk writing plays and poems to share or relaxing on the couch watching the latest bullfights from his home, he would point out all the familiar faces in the crowd. He found joy and fulfillment in these pursuits. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he shared these interests with friends and family alike. His humor was one not matched by anyone. Given the ability to connect with people within three seconds of meeting them was enlightening. His joy and compassion will be missed sorely every day. He is survived by his beloved Maria, his children, Manuel Rocha Jr. and daughter-in-law, Vickie Chase; Isabel and son-in-law, Matt Hall, Paula Rocha, and Michelle Rocha; grandchildren, Jamila and Kris Sanchez, Scott McWhorter, and Matthew Chase; and great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Archer McWhorter. Manuel is also survived by his siblings Jose Rocha, Paul Rocha, Maria Gamez, Emily Rocha, and Isabel Pimentel. May Manuel rest in peace, and his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
