SFC Michael Edward Isom, Army (Ret. ), age 59, of Alto, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. He was born June 7, 1963, in San Francisco, California, to the late Lawrence and Maud (Chapman) Isom. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army achieving the rank of an E-7 Staff Sergeant intelligence Analyst. He served for a total of 29 years in the Army and 12 of those years were with The Grand Rapids Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Department of Justice, with his Contributions in the field of Drug Law Enforcement. Michael retired in 2011. He was an accomplished professional artist and enjoyed fine scale models, canoeing, camping, scuba diving, and traveling with family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife & soul mate, Nilei Isom; children, Dylan Isom of Comstock Park, Michigan; Emily Isom of Alto, Michigan; Ethan Kroesing of Ionia, Michigan; Laurie Harrington of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Nicole Pols of Hudsonville, Michigan; brother, Martin L. Isom and his wife of Santa Rosa California; sisters, Cathy (Larry) Sadler-Villella of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota and Theresa (Clark) Isom of Saint Bonifacius, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Andy Sanchez of Las Vegas, New Mexico; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maud Elizabeth Isom in 2003; father, Lawrence Edward Isom in 2014; and sister, Patricia Isom in 2017. Burial and military honors will take place on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 2:30 p. m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI 49012. Maxine Johnson of Alto, Michigan passed away June 14, 2022, with family at her side. Maxine was 95 years of age. Maxine was married to her late husband and soul mate Hank Johnson (2007) for 60 years. Hank and Maxine had a full and wonderful life together on the farm. Friends and family would gather at the farm for barbeques, bonfires, and airplane rides. Many good memories. Holding her close in their hearts and memories are the jewels of her life - her children, Steve (Karla) Freemont, Dave (Pat) Alto, Jaci California and Jim (Tammy) Lowell. The treasures of Maxine's heart were her grandchildren; Jason, Jeff (2017), Drew, Alex, Claire, Hank, Staci, Jessica, and Justin, and 3 great-grandchildren Samantha, William and Alden. Maxine was a kind-hearted person and was loved by many. She enjoyed reading, gardening, shopping and watching MSU football and basketball. She will be missed by her family and friends. In honor of Maxine, please show love and compassion towards one another. A thank you to the staff at Heather Hills and Kindred Hospice for all their great care. Peter Lee Bencker (58) of Alto, Michigan, went to be with his heavenly father Friday, April 29, 2022. Born May 31, 1963, he resided in Alto his entire life. He was the son of Lyle & Delores (Strouse) Bencker. Pete married Nancy J. Strong on August 17, 1991. They raised 3 daughters all while they ran their construction business and enjoyed many adventures traveling and camping throughout the years. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Nancy J. (Strong) Bencker; children, Emma (Andy) Vander Ziel, Analyse (Chad) Veenstra, and soon to be granddaughter, Kollyns Veenstra, Perry Bencker (Zachary Huver); mother, Delores P. Bencker; sisters, Michelle (Tom) Tava and Debbie (Tim) Craig; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Bencker; brothers, Larry (Sue) Bencker and Ronald (Linda) Bencker. Pete was devoted to his family farm, his angus herd and spending cherished time with family & friends. He recently discovered his new passion for snorkeling! Pete was a loyal member of the Alto-Bowne Township Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years, giving up elements of his life and family time in his dedication to the department. Myrtice Lee Kerkstra, age 79, of Alto, Michigan, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. She was born November 16, 1941, in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Leo and Alice (Treadeau) Werner. Myrt married the love of her life, James Kerkstra Jr. on May 11, 1959, and together raised three daughters and a grandson, Zachary Droog after his mother passed away in 2009. Myrt worked at Michigan Bell and Mickey's Daycare for many years and touched countless children throughout her years as a childcare provider. Survivors include her husband of almost 62 years, Jim; two daughters, Renee Higgins and Michele (Richard) Bidwell; son-in-law, Steven Winter; grandchildren, Zachary Droog, James (Jen) Higgins Jr., Jessica (Jimmy) Daniels, Richard (Lindsay) Bidwell Jr., Ashley (Kurt) Kooienga, Matthew Bidwell, Heather (AJ) Almy, Kaleigh Droog, and Jaydyn Winter; great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Aiden, Sophia, Cayson, Ozyah, Colton, Landon, Mason, Ava, and Zeke; sister, Allyson (Michael) Anderson; sisters-in-law, Sandy Welch, Pam (Mark) Wickering, and Marilyn Werner; and brother-in-law, Ron (Clara) Kerkstra; and many nieces and nephews.
