Frances White

Age - 99

December 9, 2023

Frances Joan White died on Saturday, November 19, 2023, at the age of 99. She is survived by her two sons, Chris White and wife Diane and Robert White and wife Yolanda; two daughters, Denyse Jones and husband Clive and Susan Cook and husband Michael; three grandchildren, Bobby, Brian, and Tatum; two great grandchildren, Mayson and Jonah*******************************The Joy of Jehovah is your stronghold (Neh. 8:10). These words describe the strength and perseverance of my mother throughout her life. Frances was born on December 26, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio to Matt and Frances Kolar. Hard Working parents who had immigrated to the United States from Yugoslavia in the early 1900's. Frances was their second child born two years after Bertha. Sadly at the age of seven Bertha died and Frances lost her only sister. As time went on Frances learned to play the violin. Eventually playing with the Cleveland Women's Symphony Orchestra. She loved music. Many remember her playing the Hungarian Rhapsody on her violin. Frances graduated from Ohio State University. She eventually married and had four children: Chris, Denyse, Susan, and Bobby. She was a devoted mother; her children were top priority. During her years growing up she had many questions about God and life. She was raised Catholic, went to church regularly and completed catechism. When saying the Lord's Prayer she often wondered what it meant. She also was keenly aware of the prejudice around her, and it bothered her that people were judged by the color of their skin or their ethnic background. The loss of her sister also left a void in her heart. In her early 30's she began attending a protestant church in her neighborhood. This piqued an interest in reading the Bible. Although she tried she just couldn't understand what she was reading. One day there was a knock at the door - Jehovah's Witnesses. They offered to study the Bible with her. Frances thought to herself, "I'm thirty years old and I don't know anything about the Bible. " Then she said, "I'll study with you but don't expect me to go door to door. " Thus began her lifelong journey in the Truth. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1959. This was not an easy way of life for her. Her husband and parents opposed her every step of the way. Initially because the children were babies and would need babysitting she was permitted to take the children to the Kingdom Hall. She sat in the front row with Bobby on her lap, Suzy, Denyse, and Chris next to her (one and a half years old, 3 years old, 6 years old, 9 years old respectively). However, when the children got a little older her husband forbade her from taking them to the Hall. She faithfully continued attending meetings alone. She was forbidden to instruct her children in Bible truth, but she knew that they needed to know Jehovah. She would take every opportunity to teach the children. Mom was also aware of the need to participate in the preaching work. She got a territory, and every week worked it for about an hour all by herself. As time passed she and the children, who were now in their teens, moved in with her father. Her mother had died a few years past from cancer. Now another episode began; she needed to enter the work force. She eventually secured a job working for Job Corp as a counselor for underprivileged youths seeking employment. This suited her as she always had an interest in young people. While at this job she witnessed to a coworker who came into the truth. Mom had the desire to enter the full-time ministry. Her son and two daughters were already pioneering. In 1972, her dream came true, and she became a regular pioneer and continued pioneering until her death. During that time she studied the Bible with dozens of people who became Jehovah's Witnesses. She was such a good teacher and friend. In 2008, she moved to Lebanon, Virginia, with her daughter and son-in-law, where she continued preaching the good news of the kingdom. She enjoyed talking to people in this area because of their love of God and the Bible. When it became too difficult for her to walk to people's homes she visited the local laundry mat where she found many good people to talk to. She never missed an opportunity to share her faith. When on hospice every nurse and aide that came into the house received and encouraging scripture. She loved Jehovah God with all her heart. She taught her children to love Jehovah. Her daughter Denyse said, "The best thing mom ever did was teach us the truth. "She set the best example for us. Never giving up and putting Jehovah first. We, her children and grandchildren, are deeply indebted to her. We know that she is in Jehovah's memory, and we will see her in the new world. Memorial services for Frances Joan White will be held at the Lebanon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 77 Green Valley Rd, Lebanon, Virginia 24266, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2 p. m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to "The Lebanon Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses" at the above address.Show more
