It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman John Hinz, Jr, 79, of Glendale, Arizona, on February 24, 2024.Norman was born on May 27, 1944, to Virginia and Norman Hinz in Phoenix, and was the oldest of seven children.He was a loving husband to Patricia Shaughnessy Hinz and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They have three children, Donna, Dennis, and Jennifer.He was in the cattle business for 50 years. He was Arizona Cattleman of the Year in 1993 and inducted into the Arizona Farming and ranching hall of fame in 2013.Norman was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, his 2 sisters Jeannine and Cecilia and 4 brothers Mike, Glenn, Steve, and Paul. His 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.A mass will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Louis the King Catholic Church located at 4331 W Maryland Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. The mass will be followed by a brief graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 9925 W. Thomas Road, Avondale, AZ 85392.In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of the Valley.

Bonnie Kay Smazal of Glendale, Arizona, born May 17, 1955, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Erhardt (Fritz) Herman Gier and Laura Emma (Jagels) Gier, passed away at her home, Thursday, January 18, 2024. Bonnie attended Clover Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Buhl High School in 1973. She graduated from Idaho State University with a B.B.A. Degree in Accounting in 1977. It was then that she went on to work for Home Federal Savings and Loan, Farmers National Bank, in Twin Falls, followed by GMAC, and finally Vertice, in Glendale, Arizona. She married Bill Smazal, December 3, 1978. Bill passed away February 20, 2002. While Bonnie and Bill were married, they loved traveling. They enjoyed visiting numerous cities and explored the sites available to them and Disney World many times. After Bills passing, she was able to continue traveling with friends. Bonnie was a quality seamstress and gifted at crochet. She made a lot of gifts, whether it be mittens, afghans, beanies, or wraps. She never passed up an opportunity to crochet for nieces, nephews, the many children she wanted to help, plus anybody that wanted gifts and donations. You had to see her quality crafted products to really appreciate. Bonnie was a great cook and she could whip up a mouth watering meal. She had a collection of cookbooks to go along with her culinary expertise. She always looked for a good book to read! If you were friends on Facebook, you saw her in pajamas, along with the rest of the family at Neal’s house on Christmas. She really loved to go to craft shows to find wonderful treasures. Bonnie was a loving, outgoing woman who cherished her neighbors and friends. Bonnie was blessed to have wonderful friends and neighbors who looked out for her. Bonnie is survived by a loving brother, Glen (LaJune) Gier; loving brother, Neal (Debi) Gier; nephew, Terry Gier; niece, Christi Hollifield, and their children. Bonnie was preceded in death by her Husband, Bill; father, Erhardt; mother, Laura; and a sister, Betty Jean, who died at birth. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Clover Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 9th Ave N, Buhl, Idaho. Jose Jesus Peña passed away on his 88th birthday, February 22, 2024 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Jalisco, Mexico on February 22, 1936 to the late Jose and Lucia Peña. Jose married Maria S. Curiel on January 25, 1958. Together they had six children Jose, Ana, Hilda, Raul, Teresa & Jesse. Jose and Maria celebrated 63 years of marriage prior to her passing on March 23, 2021. He is survived by four children Ana, Hilda, Teresa & Jesse, six grandchildren Claudia, Adriana, Raul, Monica, Beatriz & David and six great grandchildren Ariana, Erick, Aaron, Andrea, Mario & Alan. In addition to his wife and parents, Jose was preceded in death by two sons Jose & Raul and an infant sister Rafaela Peña. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday, March 4, 2023 from 12noon-1PM at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale. Funeral services will begin at 1PM.
