Brian M. CoughlanBrian Coughlan, 45, of Mendham, New Jersey passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2023. He was 45 years old. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death. Brian was born on May 19th, 1977 to Noel and Anne Coughlan in the Bronx, NY. As a child to two Irish parents and a member of a very large Irish family, Brian took his Irish heritage seriously. His early years were spent making many trips to Ireland, embracing the culture and values, and cultivating meaningful relationships with his extended family. While there is no photographic evidence of visits to the Blarney Stone, there is no doubt that Brian had the proverbial 'gift of the gab. ' His Irishness manifested in his quick wit, his work ethic and hustle, his genuine warmth and generosity, and his appreciation for---and ability to tell---a good story. It also showed in his deep and true love for family. In the late 80s, the Coughlan family moved from the Bronx to Fair Lawn, New Jersey, where Brian attended Bergen Catholic High School and played football. So much of who Brian was and how he showed up for his loved ones was learned during these early years playing football, and he loved nothing more than to regale friends and family with legendary High School football experiences. After High School Brian attended Lafayette College where he continued his football career. It was during his time at Lafayette that he formed most of his closest relationships, including the one with his future wife, Kathleen. After graduating from Lafayette in 1999, Brian began a career in finance that lasted over 20 years and included several firms. In 2006 Brian married his college sweetheart, Kathleen Siebert. Throughout their loving marriage, Brian and Kathy welcomed 3 children and 3 dogs while living in 3 different towns. When the family settled in Mendham, New Jersey, Brian became an eager and active member of the community, coaching several sports teams and participating on various boards. His impact was deep and real. Brian was predeceased by his dear mother, Anne. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy and children, Robert (14), Emma (12), and William (10); his father, Noel; brother Sean (and wife, Susan); sister Kelly (and husband, Martin); 8 nieces and nephews, and large extended family and circle of friends. Brian is remembered fondly for his generosity of heart and humor. He will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, 15-05 St. Anne St. , Fair Lawn, NJ at 10:30AM.
