Brent Smith Sr Obituary

Mr. Brent Smith, Sr. , age 79, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at a local hospital. Mr. Smith was born in Rome, GA, on August 9, 1943, son of the late G. W. Smith and the late Catherine Jones Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary Smith. Mr. Smith was a 1961 graduate of Model High School and went on to attend Shorter College. He graduated from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy and began his long and rewarding career as a pharmacist. Mr. Smith owned and operated "The Prescription Shop" for many years, where he helped countless clients receive the medication that they could not always afford. After selling his pharmacy he worked for many years at the Floyd Medical Center Pharmacy as well as CVS before his final retirement. Mr. Smith was a former member of the Lions Club and the Pharmaceutical association and was an active member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, where he and his wife were member of the "Prayer & Praise" Sunday School Class as well as the "Primetimers. " Mr. Smith was a servant at heart and conducted not only his personal life, but also his business as such. His relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the compass of his life and influenced every decision he made. His family, especially his grandchildren, were his pride and joy. He was a coach for the Johnson Wildcats T-Ball team and was the RA Instructor for many years. His true passion was serving God's Kingdom. He went on multiple mission trips with Carpenters for Christ and most recently as a part of the Pleasant Valley South Ukraine Mission Team. Mr. Smith also worked for many years with Dr. Forrest Lanier as a part of the Operation Touch missions to inner Jamaica, where he acquired the necessary medications for the mission team and getting to accompany them on a trip as well. He was an ordained Deacon and was always looking to help others. Survivors include his wife, Kay Puryear Smith, Rome, to whom he was married on June 6, 1965; 2 children, Rev. Larry Brent "Chip" Smith, Jr. (Starla), Cedar Bluff, AL, and Amy Massey (Nat), Rome; 4 grandchildren, Emily Smith, Jenna Smith Moore (Jack), Wil Massey and Megan Massey; as well as countless other lives Mr. Smith has touched over the years. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church with Dr. Philip May and his son, Rev. Chip Smith, officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10am until service time at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.
