Brenda Clarice Prime of South Mills, NC , a beloved homemaker, gracefully departed this life on September 3, 2023, in South Mills, North Carolina. Born on August 20, 1964, in Norfolk, Virginia, Brenda lived a rich and fulfilling life that touched the hearts of all who knew her. With a gentle spirit and unwavering dedication, Brenda embraced her role as a homemaker with love and devotion. She created a warm and inviting home that always felt like a sanctuary to those fortunate enough to visit. Brenda will be deeply missed by her sister, Kathleen Wolcott of Maine, who cherished their bond and shared countless memories together. She also leaves behind a host of friends and loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, John Charles Prime and Shirley J. Lillie Mae Bishop, 74, of the 8000 block of Friden Street, Norfolk, died November 6, 2023 in South Mills, North Carolina. Born in Norfolk she was the daughter of the late Forrest Bingham Gilmore and Rose Waterman Gilmore. Lillie was a devoted mother, sister and Memaw (her proudest title). She was the oldest of eight children, she lived and breathed for family and was always there for anyone who needed her. Her grandchildren Scottie, Bree, Lexi, Rachel and Malia completed her and she was so proud of each one of them. Cooking/Baking was a passion for her and anytime the grandkids would call her for something special to eat, she jumped at the opportunity. She loved her beloved dog Milo and spoiled him every day. Family was everything to her. Lillie is predeceased by her husband Allen Bishop, her son Allen Bishop Jr. , her mother Rose Gilmore, her sister Rose Sorey (Jim) and her brother Richard Gilmore (Debbie). Survivors include her daughters Lisa Carpenter and husband Scott, Laurie Smith and husband Chris, grandkids Scott Carpenter Jr. , Lillie "Bree" Deguzman, Lexi Deguzman, Rachel Bishop and Malia Smith. She is also survived by sisters Joanne Lambert (Joe), Mary Taylor, Deborah Sorey (Roy) and brothers Forrest "Pinky" Gilmore (Debbie) and Kenneth "Butch" Gilmore (Madeline) and many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many friends she considered family. Life Celebration Services will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 12:00 noon at Samuel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, NC with Bishop Little Joe Powell, Jr. , Officiating and Rev. Timothy Hicks, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake, VA. Gordon Edward Beach, 63, of South Mills, NC, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in Hertford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Mr. Beach was born in Succasunna, NJ on March 31, 1960, and was the son of the late Gordon Floyd and Joanne Carrullo Beach. A retired Machinist Mate from the US Navy following 21 years of service, following his military career he worked as an Industrial Hygiene Technician with the Department of Defense where he had been employed for the past 13 years. A Catholic by faith, he was an avid woodworker, enjoyed gardening and working with animals, and dearly loved his family and spending time with his kids. Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Karen Valliere Beach; a daughter, Kailee Beach; a son, James Beach, both of South Mills; a sister, Tamara Beach Coppola (Tony) of Troy, MI; two brothers, Chris Beach (Phyllis) of Lake Placid, FL and Joseph Beach (Jennifer) of Roxbury, NJ; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. A celebration of life service with military honors will be held Saturday at 11:00 a. m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Charles Michael Benton, known to all as Mike, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2023, in South Mills, North Carolina surrounded by family. Born on July 30, 1950, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Charles Wesley Benton and Madeline Dunham Benton, both of whom preceded him in death. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandpa, father-in-law and friend and he leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Joy Benton; three daughters, Terra Cornelius (Christopher) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Michelle Benton of Glenhaven, California, and Heidi Delaney (Mikey) of South Mills, North Carolina; and grandchildren Wesley Cartwright, Madelynn Benton, and Madyson Delaney. He also considered his dogs as his family. Mike's life was marked by service and dedication, both to his country and his community. He began his career as an aircraft mechanic in the U. S. Air Force ("Aim High"), where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, Mike continued his work as an aircraft mechanic with the US Coast Guard Aircraft & Supply Center, providing vital support to the men and women who serve our nation. In addition to his professional achievements, Mike was an active and valued member of several organizations. He was a member of the Patriot Guard, a group of motorcycle riders who honor fallen military heroes, first responders, and honorably discharged veterans. His commitment to service and camaraderie was further demonstrated by his involvement with the 3rd Mason Star in the West Lodge 33 of North Dakota, where he was a respected and beloved member. Throughout his life, Mike was known for his loving, kind, and thoughtful nature. He had a special ability to make everyone around him feel welcome and at ease, and his warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mike's legacy of love, service, and kindness will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched. He will be dearly missed.
