Cathy L. Schernekau, 61, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on December 1, 2023 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on July 14, 1962, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Tom Fallon and Anne Fallon. After completing her education, she worked for many years as a nurse and enjoyed being able to care for others. Cathy met and later married her husband, Kurt Schernekau, on August 27th, 1983 and together they spent over forty years by each other’s side, raising their family and watching their children and then grandchildren grow. Cathy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, and who had many joys in life. She loved music and was an avid reader, enjoying the works of Danielle Steele and Elin Hilderbrand novels. She loved watching classic films especially Halloween and Alfred Hitchcock films, and was also an avid sports fan, who enjoyed cheering her favorite teams - Indiana University, Butler, Kansas City Chiefs, the Indianapolis Colts, and even proudly took herself to watch a Pacers game one year. Cathy loved the beach and looked forward to family trips to Hilton Head each year or would enjoy time by the pool in the summer. However, her greatest joy in life was the time she spent with her family, who will all miss her very much. Cathy is survived by her husband, Kurt Schernekau; sons, Pat Schernekau and Andy (Lindsey) Schernekau; daughter, Paige Schernekau; siblings, Jim (Laurie) Fallon, and Anne-Marie (Shawn) Stoner; nieces and nephews, Eimile (Coleton) Davis, Meghan Fallon, Christopher Fallon, Emmett Stoner, and Riley Stoner; as well as her three grandchildren, Adalyn, Leighton, and Baylor. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family has elected a small family service but are planning a celebration of Cathy’s life to be announced for family and friends at a date to be determined.Show more

"Sharon (Wilson) Dotson, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her residence surrounded by two loving daughters. Sharon was born on March 24, in Anderson, Indiana and resided most of her life in Anderson and later she resided in Indianapolis. Sharon graduated from Anderson High School, attended Indiana University, graduated Ball State Teachers College and received her Masters Degree from Ball State University. She taught in the Anderson Community Schools for several years and later became a substitute teacher teaching for several more years. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church. Sharon was a faithful volunteer at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson and also served on their Victoria Guild Board of Directors. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Tri Kappa Sorority, served on the Board of Directors of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra and the Isabel Harter House. She was a member of the Stephen\u0027s Ministry at St Luke\u0027s United Methodist Church of Indianapolis and a member of the Bible Study Fellowship of Anderson. Sharon loved all types of music, playing the piano, golfing and being with her family and friends. Sharon is survived by her two loving daughters, Lori (Michael) Desautels of Indianapolis, IN and Lisa (Richard) Hall of Nashville, IN. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Paige Hall, Sam (Laura) Hall, Spencer (Stacey) Hall, Andrew Desautels, Sarah (Matt) Dorsey and Regan Desautels (Alexis) Cruz; her great-grandchildren; Avery Hall, Brooks Hall, Payton Hall, Paisley Hall, and Miles Desautels Dorsey; a niece, Pam Wilson Migdal and a nephew Dean Wilson. Also, Sharon enjoyed a loving friendship and partnership with her dear companion, Robert \u0026quot;Bob\u0026quot; Hackler. She was preceded in death by loving husband of 54 years, Hugh Delano Dotson who passed away February 27, 2014, her parents Thelma (Davis) and Donald Wilson, her brother Gene Wilson and her sister Marilyn Wilson. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson St, Anderson, IN. Maxine Croker

M. Maxine Croker finished her sojourn through life on December 2, 2023 at the age of 99 1/3 exactly. She was born on July 29, 1924, the only child of Ernest and Hattie Arnold in Shelbyville, Indiana. She grew up on the southside of Indianapolis in the Fountain Square neighborhood where she would go to movies and go bowling with her many friends. She attended grade school at #39 and until recently had attended monthly luncheons of her grade school friends. She graduated from Tech High School in the class of 1941 and immediately went to work for an insurance company. She met her future husband, Bill Croker at the dance venue at WestLake where he sang during the summers. They were married after he came home from WW II on July 31, 1947. After 10 years of marriage their daughter Nancy Ann was born followed 4 1/2 years later by Amy Lou. They moved to Hartford City, Indiana where Bill managed the telephone company for Indiana Bell and Maxine became involved in the community. She was a Brownie Leader, was an active member of Psi Iota Psi Sorority, played in a bridge club and was active in the local Methodist Church. Her happiest years were in that idyllic small town where she developed lifelong friendships. Moving back to Indianapolis in 1968 she worked for 15 years in the Ladies Department at William H. Block Company. She was widowed in 1986 when Bill passed away suddenly at the age of 63. She continued to be involved with her church, friends and family. At the age of 80 she moved to Greenwood Village where she made many new friends along with the lifelong friends also living there. She was active in the Red Hat Society, went on trips and definitely enjoyed her dinner companions who enjoyed many meals full of laughter. Maxine was the last to go of that wonderful group of women. Losing her vision to macular degeneration was a life changer but she found a way to continue to live independently in her apartment. The isolation of Covid proved to be the challenge she couldn't conquer. She moved to the Manor Nursing Home 2 1/2 years ago at GVS where she resided until her peaceful passing on December 2nd. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Nancy Croker and Dr. Joe Gorvetzian of Albuquerque, New Mexico and their 3 children-Dr. Joe Gorvetzian, Andy Gorvetzian/Fiore, Dr. Sarah Gorvetzian/George. Amy Myrick and Rob of Greenville, Indiana and their 2 children-Cody Myrick/Ashley and Great grandchildren Finnley and Conrad, and Kali Myrick and great grandson Zeke. Special thanks to her "3rd daughter" her niece, Kathy Price who spent countless hours being a wonderful caregiver to Maxine. We would also like to thank Angela from Hospice McKee who provided such personal care and kindness. Her Celebration of her long life will be Wednesday, December 6th at 1 pm with visitation from 11-1 prior to the short service at G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, 46227. Jeffery Todd Nickless, age 68, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Spencer, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Chalet Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Indianapolis. He was born on November 12, 1955 in Greencastle, Indiana the son of James F. and Wilma A. (Summerlot) Nickless. Jeffery graduated from Owen Valley High School. He was a heavy equipment operator for several years and helped build golf courses all over. Jeffery was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, hunting and videos games. Jeffery is survived by his two children James Nickless (Stephanie) and Amy Stephens (Steve); seven grandchildren, Clayton Nickless, Mason Nickless, Breanna Nickless, Thomas McKibben, Alex McKibben, Will McKibben and Andrew McKibben; sister, Marcia Franklin; three brothers, Mike Nickless (Toni), Barry Nickless (Bonita) and Brad Nickless (Cindy); and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lyle Wayne Hatton, age 66 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on November 29, 2023 at Ascension - St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. The son of Gene Hatton and Iris (Deiwert) Glass was born on March 2, 1957 in Greensburg, Indiana. Lyle graduated from Greensburg High School and Ball State University. He loved being outdoors and going for walks, especially at Versailles State Park. Lyle enjoyed dancing and was a good singer too. But he was a simple person and spent his time just enjoying life and loving his family. He will be dearly missed by all. Lyle is survived by his daughters, Shara Hatton (Paul Roberts) and Bryn Hatton (AJ Stanich); grandchildren, Brooklyn and Rylan Roberts; siblings, Janet Chandler (Charles), Sandra Robbins (Bob), and Darrell Hatton (Debbie). Nora Jamison, 81 years old, born December 12, 1941 in Indianola, Mississippi to parents Norwood & Arimenta Matthews also born in Indianola, Mississippi. Nora moved to Chicago, Illinois as a young adult. Nora accepted Christ at a very young age in Mississippi. She later joined First Baptist Church Hammond, IN until her health started to decline. Nora attended school in Indianola, Mississippi. She leaves to cherish her 2 daughters Dorothy Young (Turentine) and Ericka Jamison. And 2 sisters Alice Matthews and Barbara Matthews. And brother Archie Matthews. She was preceded in death by her father, Norwood Matthews mother Arimenta Matthews; sons Jerry Jamison Sr. , Kenneth Jamison Sr. and Demetrius Jamison and daughters Amanda Faith Jamison and Joyce Matthews. Nora lived her life as a true Christian woman always having faith in God. She was a very loving person and would go out her away for her family, friends and even strangers. To other she may have been one person but to those who loved her she was our entire world. She really loved her family and she would always reach out to everyone. She loved to read the Bible and go on outings with her Sunday school class. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and anybody she ever meet.
