Bruce D Reitan, age 74, of Papillion, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Bruce lived in Minnesota until his family moved to Omaha in 1960. He enlisted in the Marines in 1968, where his love of communications and photography was born. After returning back home, he went on a blind date and met the love of his life in 1975. They married on Valentine's day the following year. They had 47 wonderful years of marriage, in which they had two daughters, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Bruce worked most of his life in factory settings at Western Electric, Control Data, and Lucent Technologies. He worked a variety of shifts but always made time to attend his daughters' events. Bruce was also a member of the Bellevue Amateur Radio Club. He assisted with many events, from the M. S. Bike Tour, to Field Day, to spotting tornados in order to keep Nebraskans' safe. If he wasn't on his HAM radio or photographing he could be found talking to other Veterans. Preceded in death by parents Clarence and Bernice (Anderson) Reitan, sister Annette (Reitan) Palma, and brother Phillip Reitan. Survived by loving wife; Arlene (Jones), daughters; Andrea (Jeff), and Amanda (Beryle), grandchildren; Angel (Robert), Troy, Jason, London, Flint (Shylo), Kenny (Emily), Walker, Jordan, Chris, and many great grandchildren. Sharolyn Hope "Shary" Boon was born October 11, 1945 at home on the school section in Southeast Dundy County, Nebraska to William Kermit and Opal (Lemon) Humphreys. She peacefully departed this life on November 25, 2023 at Papillion Manor in Papillion, Nebraska. She was 78 years of age. Shary along with her four siblings grew up farming, raising cattle, feeding chickens and milking cows. Sometimes the girls would carry a hoe to protect themselves from the rattlesnakes when bringing in the cows. When school was in session they would stay in their grandfather's basement in Max, Nebraska and return to the farm on the weekends. Shary was the youngest of the five children. Shary graduated from Max High School as salutatorian with the class of 1963. She went on to post-graduate studies at McCook Community College where she met her first husband Jerry Jones. Their union was blessed with three children. Following the birth of their third child, Shary and her family moved back to the family farm north of Parks, Nebraska. Shary shortly thereafter started a career selling Avon beauty products and then went on to a career with the United States Postal Service delivering mail on a rural route. In 1987, the family moved to Max, Nebraska where Shary became a Postmaster until her retirement in 2014. Shary was a dedicated mother and grandmother, never missing an event, game or program. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Max Community Club. She enjoyed having a cold "Coca Cola", eating ice cream and playing bingo. Shary loved to joke around with all of her friends and family at Papillion Manor. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lyle and Levoine; and husband, Ralph Boon. Survivors include her children, Kirk (Paula) Jones of Cheyenne, WY, Kimberly Lynn (Mark) Sutherland of Cozad, and Kent Jones (Kris) of Cozad; 8 grandchildren, Mitchell (Jeanie), Joshua (Ricky), Brady (Victoria), Bryce Elizabeth (Trever), Bryton (Olivia), Gage, Mayla Lynn and Ryan; 6 great grandchildren, Cameron, Taylor, Ryan, Jackson, Khallen and Annabelle; her older brother and sister, Merril (Sylvia) Humphreys of Imperial, NE; and Ila Foster of Omaha, NE; as well as many other extended family and friends. Services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Church of Christ on Newell with Pastor David Haynes officiating. Burial will be at Ash Grove Cemetery, Dundy County, NE at 2:30 p. m. Newspaper Obituary notice for Paul James Schroeder Paul James Schroeder was born January 5, 1934 In Grand Island, Nebraska to parents Paul and Adah Schroeder. He grew up in Nebraska in Grand Island, Crete, and Wayne, with a short stint in Lawton, Oklahoma. As a youth he especially enjoyed his time and activities as a Boy Scout. He graduated from Wayne High School 1951 and Wayne State College in 1954 majoring in Education. He later earned his Master's Degree and Administrative Specialist Degree from the University of Nebraska. His career as an educator in Nebraska spanned forty four years serving as either a principal or superintendent at Craig, Geneva, Wood River, Aurora, and Papillion. He enjoyed woodworking and reading and was always known as a person who could fix anything. Paul was a doting father and grandfather, teaching values by patient example. This is how he was known through all of his contacts with pupils and staff during all his years in education. He was a member of the Masonic Shrine Organization serving in many leadership roles over the years. He served as President of the Papillion library board and also maintained memberships in the Rotary Club and Lions Club. He was married on August 15th, 1954 to Chere Houdersheldt. They loved to travel to many famous places all over the United States. They celebrated their 69th anniversary this year. Their family consisted of daughter Stephanie and son Scott of whom they were very proud. One of the high lights of his life was being named "Parents of the Year" at Morningside College where their son attended. Grandchildren Austin Schroeder, Jacob Schroeder, and Alex Beideck brought him much pleasure, as did great-grandson August Beideck and great-granddaughters Lalie Beideck and Riley Schroeder. He is preceded in death by wife Chere in Sept. 2023, parents Paul and Adah, in-laws Glen and Olga Houdersheldt, sister, Mary Smith, brother-in-law, Monte Smith, brother-in-law Glen Houdersheldt, and sister-in-law Pam Houdersheldt. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren & several nieces and nephews. His Church affiliations were Methodist and Lutheran. All who knew Paul considered him a gentleman and a scholar. The family asks that memorials be directed to the Masonic Eastern Star Children's Home, Fremont, Nebraska. The family also wishes to express their profound appreciation for the care, kindness, and empathy from Papillion Manor and Suncrest Hospice.Show more
