Alamosa resident Brandon Cruz Gonzales, 21, passed away on August 31, 2023. Brandon was born in Alamosa on December 10, 2001 to Lorrayne "Lola" Ayala and Jose Gonzales. Brandon was an avid fisherman; he enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors. He liked to spend his time shooting, hunting and camping. Brandon enjoyed reading books and playing video games. He always had a good time riding motorcycles and listening to music. Brandon is survived by his mother Lorrayne Ayala; His siblings Nazzreth (Nicole) DeLuna of Alamosa, Natassia Ayala of Alamosa, Iesha (Nemias) Juarez of Alamosa, Trinity (Shelby Graham) DeLuna of Alamosa; his uncle Raymond Andrew Garcia of Alamosa; his nieces and nephews Nazzaiah DeLuna, Isaac Maes, Nazzarea DeLuna, Isyss Ayala, Nazzaren DeLuna, David Lujan, Barbie Juarez, and Malachi Juarez; and Gustavo (Evelyn) Ayala. Monte Vista resident Anita Cordova, 74, died December 4, 2023 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa. Anita was born to Candelario Garza and Anna Cuellar Garza on July 23, 1949 in Fort Lupton, Colorado. When she was 17 years old, she married the love of her life, Arthur Eloy Cordova in Leadville, Colorado. Anita worked at several jobs throughout the years, including driving bus, and working as a Clerk for Valley Wide Health Systems. She was a gardener and loved spending time outdoors and in her yard. Anita was a very kind and giving person who loved to help anyone. She was an active Jehovah's Witness and enjoyed sharing bible thoughts to many. She also enjoyed going to thrift stores. Anita is survived by her children April Cordova of Monte Vista, CO, and Anouk "Nikki" (Jonathan) Ferguson of Corpus Christi, TX, her grandchildren Justin Mascarenas, Pete Medina, Kayla Sisneros, and Rico Lopez; several great-grandchildren; her siblings Jake Garza, Josh Garza, John Garza, and Frances Garza, all of Bakersfield, CA, and Rosa Ramirez of Alamosa, Colorado; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Anita is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, her granddaughter Brooke Medina, and her sisters Mary Barraza and Rita Aldaz. Robert M. Kirkham of Alamosa, Colorado passed away November 17, 2023 at his home following and extended illness. Bob was born August 14, 1951 in Highland, Illinois to Marshall and Blanche (Paul) Kirkham. Surviving him is his wife Lois (McMahon) Kirkham, brothers Dennis (Jo) Kirkham of Greenville, and Ed (Tana) Kirkham of Sherwood, Oregon. Also survived by nieces, Kari Kirkham of Houston, Texas, and Krista Kirkham of Bloomington, Illinois and Nephew, Kristopher Kirkham of Liberty, Missouri. Bob attended Greenville Schools, graduating from Greenville High School wit the class of 1969. He attended the University of Missouri-Rolla and Western Illinois University, graduating with a degree in Geology in 1973. He obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Nevada-Reno in 1975, also in Geology. He began his working career with the Colorado Geological Survey and worked with mine reclamation, earthquake hazards, geological mapping, and other areas in earth sciences. He authored and coauthored many geological publications. After retiring, he started his own consulting firm, GeoLogical Solutions and continued working until the last few months. Bob and Lois adventured to all continents with many unique experiences including backpacking for several months in the Himalayan Mountains, viewing mountain gorillas in the wild, and riding elephants to explore a rhino preserve. Robert recently completed an extensive genealogical search of the Kirkham name. Robert never knew a stranger and was always good for a long conversation. He and Lois made many friends through their travels. He loved his nieces and nephews, taking each for a week-long Colorado adventure for the 16th birthday. "Alamosa Resident Scott Amos (71) went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Friday Nov 17th. Scott's life began August 3 1951 in Orlando Florida, The son of Alfred Smith Amos and Olie Vae Nance. Scott is survived by his wife Locadia "Loki" Amos, Brother Lee Amos, Sister Peggy Pretre, Brother in-laws: Frank (Stephanie) and Albert (Kathy) Trujillo, Sister in-law Lucia Cordova, Son Michael Amos, Step Children: Joseph Espinoza, Chris (Patricia) Espinoza, and Amanda (Dennis) DeHerrera. Grandchildren: Skye, Sarah Rain, Julius, Marius, Jarrell, Dennis, Dominic, Destiny. Nephews Nieces Cousins and numerous extended family and his best friend Dan. Scott was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Amos and Olie Amos, Brother David Amos, Mother In-law Evangeline Cordova, and Brother in-Laws; Chris, Joe, John and Lino Trujillo. Scott was a veteran of the United States Air force and was a helicopter mechanic. Scott was great carpenter and an avid fisherman and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed watching sports and westerns when he couldn't be outside. Scott loved when his grandchildren would visit and cooking the fish he caught. Scott Loved taking his wife Loki to lunch at the Crazy Corner Cafe. A special thank you to Joseph for helping to take care of him a thank you to Hospice and everyone sending prayers. "It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear father, brother, son, uncle, and friend, Vidal Garcia. We were deeply saddened to learn of his sudden departure on Friday, November 24, 2023, in Alamosa, CO. He was only 39 years old. Vidal was born on December 14, 1983, in Fort Worth, TX, to Delia and Tomas Garcia. Despite facing challenges in life, he always cherished the moments spent with his family during holidays and celebrations. His laughter was the most genuine kind that filled the room with joy, and his infectious spirit brought happiness to his family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, watching his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, playing cards, and challenging his siblings to games of Jeopardy. Vidal was known for his kind heart and willingness to help those in need. He was a great dad who loved nothing more than carrying his sons on his back and was known for participating in water balloon fights with his nieces and nephews to the point of falling down laughing! He may no longer be with us, but his memory will live on forever in our hearts. Vidal is survived by his sons, Isaiah and Damion Garcia, his mother Delia (Ismael) Rios, his siblings Belen (David) Garcia, Elizabeth Garcia, Thomas (Jessica) Garcia, Joel (Nina) Garcia, Roman Garcia, and numerous nieces and nephews. Longtime Monte Vista Resident, Willard G. Martin passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Colorado State Veterans Center Nursing Home at the age of almost 99 years old. Willard was the son of Glenn and Ruby Martin, born in Artesia, New Mexico on February 18, 1925. His family moved to a cattle ranch about 12 miles from Abilene, Texas and for the first eight years of school, he and a neighbor girl named Anita went to a school in Taylor County, having to ride their horses to and from school. Then the last four years of High School his family moved closer to Abilene and he was able to ride the bus to school until he graduated in 1943. The family then moved to a cattle ranch at Razor Creek, about 20 miles from Gunnison, Colorado where he helped his Dad and Mom herd and brand cattle and harvest hay. On September 7th, 1944 Willard enlisted in the U. S. Army. He was deployed to Rhineland Central Europe where he was sent to the 66th Armored Division Unit and was put in a medium tank as a Tank Driver. During the last year of his tour, he was a message center chief and then an SSG Administrative NCO before being discharged on August 5th, 1946. He returned back to Razor Creek, Colorado, and helped his Dad on the ranch and there he met his loving wife, Norma Lee Lockhart in Gunnison at a malt shop where she worked. They got married in Taos, New Mexico in a double ceremony with their good friends, The Wheelers on November 20, 1947. Willard and Norma settled in Doyleville, Colorado on a cattle ranch, where they raised cattle and harvested hay. Willard also drove a truck delivering hay to the race tracks in Phoenix, Arizona and Ruidoso, New Mexico. In 1960, Willard decided to change jobs and started working for Safeway driving a semi truck, delivering groceries. Willard made his career with Safeway and made several moves around Colorado, and after 30 years of service he retired from Safeway. He resumed driving trucks all around the country for another 8-10 years before he decided to call it quits from driving trucks. Willard spent his remaining years taking care of his wife, home, and yard and being a snowbird in the winter months in Mesa, Arizona. Willard is survived by his two daughters, Pat (Charlie) Burd and Carol (Ron) Martinez, three grandchildren, Shawn Burd, Lori (Art) Vigil, and Marla (Todd) Rumley, five great-grandchildren Lexi (Shane) Settle, Ryan Rumley, Spencer (Jasmine) Wingert, Sydney Rumley and Dalyn Burd, and two great great grandchildren Leia Wingert and Justin Settle. Willard was preceded in death by his wife Norma Lee Martin, parents Glenn and Ruby Martin, his brother Jack Martin, and his Grandson Glen E. Martinez. "Chama, CO- Chama resident Marie Orlinda Sanchez gained her angel wings on November 22, 2023 at the age of 70 with her loving family by her side. Marie was welcomed in to the world on November 16, 1953 to Meduardo and Ursulita Sanchez. Marie graduated High School in Colorado Springs, CO. She enjoyed life to the fullest, and loved her family with all of her being. Marie enjoyed coloring and working on puzzles. She also loved cleaning house, sewing, peeling green chili, and now at the last she loved to destroy blankets or anything she could get her hands on. But her greatest joy of all was the time she spent with her loving family and friends. Marie will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Marie's legacy will live on through her family.
