Plattsmouth, NE
"Bonnie Jean Hazlett (Countryman), age 74, passed away at her home in Plattsmouth, NE on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023. Born October 10th, 1948, to parents Samuel and Martha Countryman (Carl) in Garden City, KS, Bonnie was many things to many people throughout her life, including a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. After marching in the 1966 Tournament of Roses Parade with her band classmates, Bonnie graduated from Sydney High School in Sydney, NE the same year. Afterwards, she moved to southern California with her best friends from high school, where they shared an apartment together, until she met her soulmate and love of her life, Don Hazlett, whom she married in 1971. They moved to Ridgecrest, CA, in 1983, and opened Desert Diesel Truck and Auto Repair, which they owned and operated until 1999, when they moved back to Nebraska, to be closer to her family, settling in Plattsmouth, NE. Bonnie worked for the Plattsmouth Journal for many years, and truly enjoyed her time and the friends she made there, until she retired, and spent her remaining years enjoying her family and pursuing one of her greatest passions, researching genealogy. Her love and the light she brought into the lives of those who knew her and love her will be forever missed. She is survived by her brother, James Countryman and wife Roxanne; children David Hazlett and wife Crystel, Debra and Michael Cook; grandchildren Derrick Hazlett and wife Savannah, Hayley Hazlett, Mikayla Cook, Alexa Reynolds; great-grandchildren Melody Hazlett, Callum Hazlett, and Millicent Egee. She is preceded in death by both parents, her daughter Catherine Hazlett, her husband Don Hazlett, sisters Anita Zuger (Countryman) and Sandra McLaughlin (Countryman), and grandson James Cook. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at Roby Funeral Home, 346 Avenue A, in Plattsmouth. The service will begin at 10:30 A. M. , and refreshments will be available afterwards at St. Luke's Episcopal Church next door. We, the family, would like to thank everyone who has been so kind and helpful throughout this difficult time, including, but not limited to, Janet Gruber and her staff at Brown's Floral, Sarah Brodersen and all the wonderful people at Mom's Cafe, and most especially the Roby's, who are absolutely amazing at what they do, and whose kindness and expertise have made this process as easy as it could be.
