"Bonnie Gay Akerlind, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Cloverville, MI, with her daughter beside her on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Bonnie was born in Norway, MI, on January 29, 1940, to Walter and Mildred (Peterson) Langwell. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School, and on June 17, 1961, she married Rolf Akerlind, and they spent 50 wonderful years married to each other until he preceded her in death in 2012. Bonnie was a social butterfly who was always talking with friends and keeping busy. She worked as a secretary for Fruitport Public Schools for 26 years, retiring in 1998. She was a girl scout leader for some time, and she enjoyed doing arts and crafts. One of her favorite past times was garage saling, and in recent years she dedicated that time to looking for jackets, gloves, and other apparel that she would donate to the Muskegon Rescue Mission. Everybody who knew Bonnie loved her, and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Abbring of Cloverville, MI; two grandchildren: Chrissie Fuller of Spring Lake, MI and Andy Abbring of Iron Mountain, MI; great-granddaughter, Loralei Fuller; sister in-law, Linda (Keith) Allen; two nieces: Becky (Michael) McLaughlin and Marci (Albert) Mitchell; two nephews: Thomas Allen and Douglas Allen; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mildred Langwell; husband, Rolf Akerlind; and her brother, Thomas Langwell. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be taking place for Bonnie at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. "Mary E. Cooper, age 71, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023. She was born March 24, 1952 in Muskegon to Robert and Ruth (Steigelman) Alberts. Mary graduated from Ravenna High School in 1970. On February 15, 1969, she married Michael D. Cooper in Ravenna, and he preceded her in death in 2008. Mary worked as a Para Pro in the Oakridge and Ravenna School Districts for over 30 years. She was a member of the Ravenna Conservation Club and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. SURVIVORS include two sons: Troy (Casie) Cooper of Ravenna and Christopher (Denise) Cooper of North Muskegon; eight grandchildren: Brittany (Zack) MacLeod, Bailey, Brezlyn, Kaia, Calvin, Bristol, Nicole Karel, and Tanner Karel; three great-grandchildren: Julian, Jude, and Sutton; her significant other, Dave Galdeen of Ravenna and his children: Daniel (Heather), Stacy (Kyle), and Teegan (Ben); two brothers: Thomas Alberts of West Palm Beach, FL and James (Patricia) Alberts of Coopersville; and several nieces and nephews. "James H. Fles, age 83, passed away peacefully at The Leila and Cyrus Poppen Residence on Saturday, December 2, 2023. He was born August 21, 1940, in Grand Rapids, MI, to J. Herman and Lucille (Noordewier) Fles. He attended Grand Rapids Christian High School and went on to Calvin College and Ferris State University. On August 30, 1975, he married Ruth Ykema in front of his theater organ in their home in Spring Lake, MI. Jim had a passion for the theater organ. He loved to repair and play organs and was instrumental in modernizing the organ setup at the Frauenthal Center in Muskegon, MI. He owned Town \u0026amp; Country Stereo in Grand Rapids, MI and then, Tri-Cities Sound in Grand Haven, MI. When he wasn't sitting in front of an organ console, Jim could be found boating or tinkering in his workshop. He also was an avid collector of kerosene lanterns. Jim is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons; and two grandsons. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Fles. "Gwendolyn M. Scheerer, wife of the late Dr. Leon B. Scheerer, passed away December 1, 2023 at the age of 92. Gwen was born December 22, 1930 in St. Cloud, MN to Paul and Gladys (Braton) Morben. Gwen graduated from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota where she received a teaching degree. She married Leon on June 28, 1952. Gwen taught kindergarten in Minnesota, Missouri, and Muskegon Heights, Michigan from 1952-1957 and supported their young family as Leon pursued his medical degree and career. In 1957, they moved to Muskegon for Leon's medical practice at the "new" Muskegon General Hospital. They raised four children in the wonderful community of North Muskegon. Gwen and Leon journeyed extensively across the United States, Europe (often on ski trips), and ventured as far as Hong Kong and Japan. After the sudden death of her beloved husband Leon in 1979, Gwen worked at Muskegon Community College and Hackley Hospital organizing community education events. She was an avid supporter of causes in Muskegon: a long time member of the Service League of Muskegon; she served on the Boards of Every Woman's Place, the Muskegon YFCA, Senior Services, and was a charter member of the Muskegon General Hospital Gift Shop. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Leon; her parents, Gladys and Paul Morben; her sisters Norma Jean Bennewitz (Bill), Shirlee "Pearl" Hamlin (Don), Charlotte Nelson (Don); and her dear daughter Elizabeth "Libby" Sturman. Gwen is survived by her children, John "Jack" Scheerer (Surry), Ann Scheerer (Todd), Benjamin Scheerer (Kathy); and by her eight beloved grandchildren, Andrea Pangilinan (Ryan), Camille Sturman, NIcholas Sturman, Vick Scheerer (Effe), Jennie Rose Scheerer (Erik), Lilly Scheerer, Max Scheerer, and Emmie Scheerer. Gwen was blessed to have many, many loving nieces and nephews, and dear lifelong friends from every phase of her fun and adventurous life. Special thanks to her loving caregiver and friend, Debby Jaquith, and other compassionate souls who cared for her at The Oaks and the Harbor Hospice Poppen House of Muskegon. Gwen was so proud of her Minnesota and Norwegian heritage, loved Muskegon, her A-frame on Lake Michigan, and her retirement years in Sun City West, AZ. She loved people and made many memories with family and friends at the A-frame, vacations in the desert, playing tennis and word games, telling countless stories of her childhood and her sisters the "Morben Flowers. " She studied American and presidential history, was an avid gardener and reader, deeply enjoyed Leonard Cohen music, and above all, loved being with her grandchildren. A Celebration of Gwen\u0027s Life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 12-2pm at the Bear Lake Tavern, 360 Ruddiman Dr. , N. Muskegon, MI. "Mr. Willis "Bill" Rude, age 98, died on Monday, November 27, 2023. He was born on August 7, 1925 to John and Minnie (Husby) Rude in East Jordan, Michigan. He served in WWII in the Army's 3rd Infantry Division. Bill graduated from the University of Michigan School of Forestry in 1950. During the summers of 1948 and 1949 he was a "Smokejumper" for the USFS based in Missoula, Montana. He was employed at S. D. Warren Company for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Bill married Dolores "Dolly" Cayo on February 11, 1953 and they enjoyed over 70 years of marriage. Bill was a true family man, enjoying any and all activities that included family. He was an avid skier (both snow and water) and tennis player. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolly; two daughters, Dawn (Jim Stuberg) Rude and Lynne Twining; one son, Bruce (Cheryl Tanouye) Rude of Berkeley, CA; and two grandchildren, Kavi Rumishou and Paige Twining. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas; two brothers, Ernest and Arthur; and sister, Lois Snyder. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a burial in Laketon Township Cemetery will take place at a later date. "Rosella S. Cahill, age 91, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 13, 1932 in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont to Walter and Evelyn (Bridges) Schultz and has lived in the area since 1965. Rosella married Richard B. Cahill in Muskegon on November 17, 1973. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Muskegon. She enjoyed traveling and camping, and for the past 28 seasons, Rosella and her husband wintered down south throughout Texas, Arizona and Florida. Rosella also loved playing all kinds of games especially card games, Bingo and any social game. There were no strangers in Rosella's world as she could talk to anyone she met. She loved to give and receive hugs and had a deep love for animals, especially cats and dogs. She will be greatly missed by her many loving family and friends. The Family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to LifeCircles/PACE Hospice Care Teams for the care she received at the end of her life. "Thomas Albert "Tucker" Roberts, age 78, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at his home. He was born September 20, 1945 in Muskegon to Walter and Tressa Marie (Hinton) Roberts and was a lifelong resident of the area. Tucker served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked 21 years as a corrections officer for Brooks Correctional Facility prior to retiring in 2010. On April 26, 1980, he married Toni Anita Muscato in Muskegon. Tucker was an avid ice fisherman and played masterful guitar in many area bands. He perfected his recipe over decades and served thousands of bluegill at his famous fish fries for friends and family. He enjoyed spending time in his gardens and tending his critters. His wit was legendary. Survivors include his loving wife, Toni Roberts; 2 sons, Jed (Denise) Roberts, Seth Roberts; 1 granddaughter, Hazel Harrison; and 1 sister, Louise Czarney. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Myra Backstrom, and 2 brothers, Gerald Roberts and Fred Roberts. "Ronald Judd Beemer, age 88, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. He was born on July 12, 1935, to Wilbur and Evelyn (Heffner) Beemer in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating from Grand Rapids South High in 1954 he went on to graduate from Western Michigan University in 1958, where he was an active member of the Cooley Clubbers of the Wesley Foundation for many years. Ronald was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, and his faith was very important to him. On October 21, 1961, Ron married his wife, Louise Swagart, and they went on to have three children, Gregg, Todd, and Rhonda. They were married for 60 years before Louise's death in 2021. He had a lifelong love of sports, working for Wilson Sporting Goods for 25 years, and officiating football, basketball, and baseball. He was the president of the Southern Little League for several years and served as a coach to his sons throughout their childhood. He also loved playing golf and bowling. Ron was known for his love of music and people, and loved singing every day, from choirs to the halls of the Hume Home. He used his songs to bring joy to the people around him. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his three children: Gregg (Barbara) Beemer, Todd (Laurie) Beemer, and Rhonda (Timothy) Prater; grandchildren: Danielle (Matt), Blake, Katie, Jenna, Elise, and Lauren; great-grandchildren: Chance, Pierce, Jolene, and Charlie; sister, Sandy Zych; sisters in-law: Norma Beemer and Betty Beemer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; parents, Wilbur and Evelyn Beemer; brothers, Morey Beemer and Terry Beemer; great-grandson, Nolan Hoffmann; and brother in-law, Ray Zych.
