Bobby Marshall Obituary

Bobby Joe Marshal, 63, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023 at his parents' home. Kay and Larry O'Neal, Hayter Street, after a long fight against Reiters disease. Bobby had been in Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for 11 days. The doctors at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital made heroic efforts to save Bobby's life. He was sent to hospice at the home of his parents, Larry and Kay O' Neal, who have been married for 46 years. Heart to Heart Hospice set up a hospital bed in our living room and took wonderful care of Bobby. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their care. Sunday, Oct. 1, a large number of family and friends visited him at his bedside. Bobby was born Nov. 16, 1959, in Temple, Texas, to Kay Bostick Marshall and Joe Marshall. Bobby graduated from Richland High School in Waco, Texas in 1977. Bobby in the 1980's served in the U. S. Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. Bobby developed Reiters syndrome. It's a rare disease and is always fatal. Bobby was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches, Texas, from 1983 until he passed away. Bobby will be cremated and his ashes will be put in the columbarium at Christ Episcopal Church. Bobby attended Stephen Austin State University in the 1980's. Bobby lived at Independence Manor in Nacogdoches for the past 20 years. Bobby would like to thank the staff and people at Independence Manor for loving and caring for him. Bobby hunted deer most of his life at his grandparents' deer lease, Jim and Tressie Bostick of Marshall, Texas. The past 15 years he hunted with his dear friend Darrell Hall of Appleby, Texas. At age 61, Bobby shot a deer on Hall's lease and had the head and horns mounted. He hung it on the wall in his home at Independence Manor. Bobby enjoyed woodworking at Independence Manor. He made hundreds of birdhouses and gave them to family and friends. Bobby's mother; Kay Bostick O'Neal and Bobby, are descendants of Sion Bostick, who captured Santa Anna at the end of the Battle of San Jacinto. Sion Bostick was in a company with Samuel Hayter, who was also a hero of the battle of San Jacinto. Interestingly Kay and Larry O'Neal live on Hayter Street in Nacogdoches which is named for Samual Hayter. After the capture of Santa Anna, all of the soldiers wanted to kill Santa Anna, but Sam Houston decided to ransom Santa Anna back to the Mexican Government. The ransom money was used to fund the Republic of Texas. Without the ransom money there would not be a Republic of Texas. His mother, Kay, loved Bobby very much, who was the sweetest, kindest and gentlest man you could ever meet. Bobby will be cremated though Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors in Nacogdoches and his ashes will be placed at Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches. Bobby's memorial service will be on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches with the Rev. Gary Hill, a retired priest of the church, conducting the service.
