Mr. Bobby Joe Atkinson, 83, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Mr. Atkinson was born on September 8, 1940, in Clarendon County, son of the late Edgar “Bub” Atkinson and Anita Beard Atkinson. He was of the Pentecostal Faith. Mr. Atkinson retired from Osborne Construction of Turbeville as a diesel mechanic. He was an avid Nascar fan and loved Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon. Surviving are his former wife and dear friend, Madine Anderson Beard of Kingstree; daughters, Nita Atkinson (Eliazar Serrato) and Katie (T.J.) Burrows both of Kingstree, Belisa “Bea” (Cody) Hyatt of Washington State; grandchildren, Alex Serrato, Anna Serrato, Adrian Serrato, Tyler Beard, Damian Beard, Ashley Burrows, Myles Hyatt and Leia Hyatt; three great grandchildren; brother, Bill Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was preceded in death by his twin sister, Betty Jean Osborne; brothers, Richard Atkinson and Robert Atkinson. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Turbeville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 East Hwy, 378 Bypass, Scranton. Mr. Kelly Whitfield Ham, 94, of Scranton, husband of Mildred Elizabeth “Sinky” Willoughby Ham, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Mr. Ham was born on February 17, 1929, in Elim Community, Florence County, son of the late Carson Jerome Ham and Myrtie Kirby Ham. He retired as a Sergeant First Class from the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Ham later retired from the South Carolina Department of Highways & Public Transportation as a Right of Way Agent and was a member of Scranton Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Elizabeth “Sinky” Willoughby Ham of Scranton; daughters, Mary Ham (Nick) Maness of Rockingham, NC and Sarah Ham (Walter) Wilkinson of Pawleys Island; son, Kelly Whitfield “Whit” Ham, II, Esq. of New York, NY; granddaughter, Bogan (Will, MD) Temple of Murrells Inlet; great grandsons, Harry, Buford and Wallace Temple; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Mr. Ham was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Margaret Ham and siblings, Billy Oscar Ham, Gretchen Myers, Wilbur M. Ham, Sr. and Carson J. Mr. John “Mack” Elmore, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, after a recent illness. He was the son of the late Madison Hugo Elmore, Sr. and Ida Beatrice Lee Elmore. Mr. Elmore was born in Florence County and attended Olanta schools. He worked for Florence County maintaining traffic lights and drawbridges for a number of years. Later he farmed and raised livestock while taking care of his mother. He attended Bethel Baptist Church and St. Paul Methodist Church. Mr. Elmore was preceded in death by six sisters, Margaret Cribb, Mae Cliff Johnson, Vonda Elmore, Carrie Elmore, Mary Alice Harrelson and Rose Marie Conyers; and three brothers, M. H. Elmore, Jr., Frank Elmore and Richard Elmore. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. His three nieces, Jeanie Elmore, Debbie Smith and Jamea Elmore Thompson had the honor or spending his final weeks by his bedside, making the sweetest memories. He was an avid gardener. He loved to grow fruits and vegetables and share them with family and friends. Mr. Elmore loved to grow beautiful flowers as well. One of his favorite past times was fishing, and he made wonderful memories with his fishing buddies. There will be a private burial at St. Paul Methodist Church in Coward. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75231.

Mrs. Watts was born on October 4, 1941, in Florence County, daughter of the late Melvin Evans and Ollie Miles Evans. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and received her Masters of Education from Francis Marion University. Mrs. Watts retired from Florence County School District Three, after 32 years of teaching. Surviving are her daughter, Karen Lamb; niece, Nancy Matthews; sister-in-law, Mae Evans; number of nieces and nephews and special friends, Len & Claire Gaskins. Mrs. Watts was preceded in death by a son, Murell Lamb; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Carolina Funeral Home.
