James Buryle Mitchell, Sr. , age 64, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023, at his home. He was known to many as "Cheech" and was the self-proclaimed "King" of Red Oak. Cheech was born March 13, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Dean and Ethel (Spoon) Mitchell. He was raised in Lucas, Iowa and Chariton, Iowa. He moved to Des Moines when he was very young and throughout the years lived in many different places before settling in Red Oak, Iowa about 30 years ago. Cheech was united in marriage to Gail Floyd on January 31, 1987, in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Four children were brought to this union: Jimmy, Trisha, Dallas, and David. He later married Jessica Rikke on August 27, 2005, in Red Oak, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Randy, Ty, and Shadow. Over the years, Cheech worked in road construction, drove truck over the road, worked at RoMech, TRACO, OSI Oakland Beef, Foresman Farms, Red Oak Fab, H & H Trailers, Parker Hannifin, and most recently, Pella Corporation. In his younger days, he was a bouncer at several bars. His hobbies include fishing, woodworking, riding his motorcycle, singing, and playing Cribbage, Wahoo, Dominoes, Spoons, and Poker. Preceding him in death were his parents: Dean Mithcell and Ethel Bolio; brothers: Chester "Spike" Mitchell and Kermit Mitchell; sister: Linda MacDonald; and stepdad: Jack Bolio. Survivors include his wife: Jessica Mitchell of Red Oak; children: David Giles of Colorado; Dallas Floyd and Tina of Osceola, IA; Jimmy Mitchell and fiance Keira of Creston, IA; Trisha Mitchell and companion Chris of Creston, IA; and Randy, Ty, and Shadow Mitchell all of Red Oak; grandchildren: Travis Floyd of Ottumwa, IA and Liberty VanScoy-Cordell of Creston, IA; bonus children: RaShanda Griffin and husband Shane of Gillette, WY and RaChelle Newman and husband Carl of Grand Rapids, MN; Shannon Gray and wife Jackie of Crystal Lake, MN; and Shane Gray and wife Jordan of Marshall, MN; sisters: Judy Johnson and husband Doug of Winterset, IA; his twin, Dana Gibbens and husband Larry of Des Moines, IA; and Rebecca Mitchell and friend Doug Hardy of Red Oak, IA; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Salvador and Cecilia Carillo of Gillette, WY; brothers-in-law: Shane Carillo and wife Stacy of Rock Spring, WY and Davids MacDonald of Colfax, IA; extended family: Doug and Sandy Sexton of Council Bluffs, IA; Tammy and Jes Wingad of Oakland, IA; Mindy Rinehart and husband Derek of Corning, IA; and Brandy Sexton of Council Bluffs, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 1 PM Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Red Oak Eagles Lodge with a time of food and fellowship to follow.
