Alvin Johnson

Alvin Johnson

Age - 57

November 27, 2023

On the 23rd day of November at Alamance Regional Hospital, Alvin Lamar Johnson passed away surrounded by his sisters at the age of 57. He was born November 7, 1966 to Helen Winstead Johnson and the late Aubrey C. Johnson in Alamance County. Alvin learned a work ethic young in life--farming the fields in the McCray Community and later to go on to work in the manufacturing industry. He enjoyed watching wrestling, basketball and football talking junk even when his teams were losing. He used whatever skills he had to work on cars, and helping others. His love of life was contagious. He was the life of the party. Even though he couldn't dance; he was on the dance floor. Before you walked away from him, Alvin would make you laugh or you would have a smile on your face. Or, he had asked you for a dollar! To know Alvin, you knew he had a heart of gold. He would come running to your rescue no matter the situation. If you needed food; if you needed shelter; if you needed wood chopped; if you needed help to move; if you were in trouble and needed to be saved from the streets, he had you. Alvin fed many, sheltered the homeless, and rescued others from harm in his own quiet manner. If he had it, you had it. Later in life, Alvin was deemed disabled. But he didn't sit still and be idle. He kept it moving and walked wherever he wanted to go making a big circle of the neighborhood checking in on family and friends. He was an active member at God House of Joy. Serving as a greeter and directing traffic watching to ensure everyone got safely to their cars. Alvin Lamar Johnson leaves to carry on his legacy: his mother, Helen Winstead Snipes; Sisters, Annette Smith, Gala Johnson (Tip), Carolyn Gary, and Lillian Johnson-Miles (Kevin). Two aunts: Mildred Williamson and Addie Mae Love; 7 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and great nephews whose lives were touched by knowing Uncle AJ, through his unconditional love, laughter, discipline, babysitting, and feeding them. Long-time friend, Blanche Tate and many family members and friends we cannot name all. He was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey C. Johnson and stepfather, Jimmy D. Snipes; his paternal and maternal grandparents; many aunts and uncles, and one great nephew. By birth he was called Alvin, but the family called him Alvis. In the streets, he was called AJ the Legend. But God. . . called him . . . my good and faithful servant.Show more
