Billy Buford Neely, age 91, of Knoxville, Tennessee went peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 9, 2023. He graduated from Tennessee Tech with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering, started his Masters Degree at M. I. T. in Boston and finished his masters at U. T. Knoxville. Billy's first job was working Clark Daily & Deitz Engineering and designed the interstate in Memphis, Tennessee, worked at N. A. S. A. at Red Stone Arsenal, he designed the scaffolding for the Apollo. He was in the Army during the Korean War and served as a military policeman, an outstanding sportsman and voted best all around athlete at Cumberland County High School. Billy loved basketball, table tennis and he was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame for table tennis. He was a U. S. Champion for the Senior Olympics winning 5 gold medals. Billy was a master carpenter with the ability to look at a picture and build without any plans. He was preceded in death by parents, Hughey and Lula Neely; son, Cary Mitchell Neely; sister, Barbara Anderson; grandsons, David Andrew Dyer and Lance Neely. Billy was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, He is survived by wife of 71 years, Joan Marie Neely; son, Billy Buford Neely Jr; daughter, Tara Marie Dyer; grandson, Micah Neely; granddaughters, Julia Macy Neely, Kaylee Marie Dyer and Kelsee Ann Dyer; great-grandsons, Waylon Neely and Abel Connor Hawkins; brother, Aaron (Maren) Neely; numerous nieces, nephews and family; special friend, Dwayne Kitchel. David Eugene Freshour was born March 25, 1948 in Knoxville,TN and passed away after a courageous and grueling battle with lung cancer at his home surrounded by those he loved on November 28th at 11:57 pm. He was the son of the late JV & Bertha Freshour. Brother to Larry (Carolyn) Freshour, Sarah Doyle (Robert Apley), and the late Susie (Steve) Loope. He was father to Chris (Paige) Freshour, Rachel (Mark) Watson, and the late Matthew Freshour. He leaves behind grandchildren: Drew, Reese, & Ivy Freshour and Josh (Suzanne), Jayden & Jordan Watson as well as many precious (great) nieces and (great) nephews. There was also a special place in his heart for Sandy McCroskey, with whom he shared his life & many wonderful years until the very end. David was a world traveler, working in several Middle Eastern countries and vacationing in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. He also lived and worked throughout the US including Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, California, and Utah. Although he explored the world during his lifetime, his heart was always in Knoxville, home to his family & beloved University of Tennessee Volunteers. David could often be found riding the roads of East Tennessee or the Smoky Mountains on one of his Harley Davidsons or in his 1978 25th anniversary Corvette. He truly loved being surrounded by God's creation, whether it be camping on Norris Lake (Island F to be exact), hiking and riding horseback in the mountains or working in his yard and vegetable garden. He cherished time with his family, lifelong friends, and riding buddies. David will be missed by so many but his love for life and example of his Christian faith will live on in the hearts of all those that knew him. David requested there only be a private family memorial at his house. Peggy Anneka Smittenaar, age 69 of Knoxville, TN passed away on November 29, 2023. She was born to Gerardous and Jantina Smittenaar on July 23, 1954, in The Hague, Netherlands. She retired from Montgomery County MD Schools as a special education teacher. Along with her work in education she received multiple awards for her poetry. Her hobbies included but were not limited to; sewing, crafting, painting, building miniature dioramas, metal art figures and models. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerardous and Jantina Smittenaar. She leaves behind and is survived by her daughters, Kristi and Katrina; sons, Charles, Robert, Matthew and Michael; brothers, Perry, Charles and Andrew; sister, Tammy. The family would like to offer their thanks to the Pleasant Ridge Ward Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their help, compassion and love. The family will gather on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 11:00am - 12:30 for a viewing at the LDS Chapel (6024 Grove Rd Knoxville, TN 37918) A funeral service will start at 1:00pm. The graveside service will follow at 3:00pm at Greenwood Cemetery (3500 Tazewell Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918).
