Bill "Cubby" Huth age 90, of Newton passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Helia Healthcare of Newton. Funeral services celebrating Bill's life will be held at 7:00 p. m. , Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Plainfield Church, Rose Hill, Illinois with Pastor Rick Britton officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p. m. until the time of service Tuesday in the church. Military rites will be offered by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion. Private family interment services will be held at a later date. Bill was born on October 14, 1932, in Middlebourne, Ohio the son of Bruce Leslie and Roberta (Shauber) Huth. Following high school, Bill was attending college when he was called into the service of his country. He proudly served in the U S Navy during the Korean War. Bill was a retired hardware salesman. On November 25, 2001, Bill married Linda Griffith. She survives. His memberships include the Plainfield Church and the Newton Masonic Lodge No. 216 A. F. & A. M. He was an avid Newton Eagle football fan and Newton Athletic Booster. He loved the kids and watching their success in athletics. In his free time, Bill enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working in the yard. He enjoyed talking and loved to share a comment, a story and always a great big smile. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, earning him his nickname "Cubby". Bill will be loved and remember by his wife Linda Huth of Newton; children Terri and husband Brian Snipes of Alabama, Brian Griffith and wife Melisa of Newton and Dora Griffith of Newton; grandchildren Elyssa Snipes, Marissa Snipes, Clayton Woodard and Cameron Griffith; mother-in-law Erma Springston of Winston Salam, NC; sister-in-law Carol Hunsaker of Newton; Shortie the dog and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial gifts in honor of Bill may be made to either the NCHS Football Program or to HSHS Hospice. Tammy Sue Webb age 57, of Newton passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. Funeral services celebrating Tammy's life will be held at 2:00 p. m. , Saturday, November 25th at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois with Pastor Rick Britton officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a. m. Saturday until time of services in the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois. Tammy was born on January 27, 1966, in Effingham, Illinois the daughter of George and Barbara (Flowers) Maxwell. Tammy was a graduate of Newton Community High School, Class of 1984. On August 13, 1993, Tammy married Greg Webb in Olney, Illinois. He survives. Tammy was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them. Tammy loved spending time outdoors. She enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting. She liked to take drives through the country and listen to music. She loved animals and caring for them, especially horses and her dog, Abby. Linda D. Fry, 74, of Clay City, Illinois, formerly of Newton, Illinois passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Clay County Hospital. Linda was born January 14, 1949 in Richland County, Illinois, the daughter of Leon and June (Melton) Granby. She married James Fry on February 6, 1982 in Olney, Illinois. James preceded her in death on April 13, 2018. Linda was a 1968 graduate from Newton. When she was younger, she worked at Brown's Shoe Factory in Olney. She later worked at Burgin Manor as an aide. She moved to Flora in the late 1970s with her husband, James, and worked at Flora Gardens while she lived there. She later retired from Pacific Cycle. She was a huge Cardinals fan and enjoyed cheering at their games. Her favorite pastimes were either word searches or watching the baseball game on television. Linda loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She also enjoyed camping with her husband while he was living. Linda was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church in Clay City. She was a loving mother to all of her kids, and she was a wonderful grandmother to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Linda will be missed dearly by all those that knew her. Linda is survived by her daughter, Angela Ash and husband Dave of Plainfield, IN; step-son, James W. Fry and fiance Sherry York of Hatfield, AR; step-son, Donald E. Fry and friend Sheery Evilsizer of Flora, IL; step-daughter, Caralyn Riley and husband John of Clay City, IL; step-daughter, Sandy Rodgers of Johnston City, IL ; 3 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great grandchildren; brother, Ron Granby and wife Debbie; sisters, Yvonna Clark, Connie (Bill) Hartleroad, Debbie (Alden) Blake; Sherry Duncan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Fry; brothers-in-law, Jeril Clark and Kenny Duncan. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City. A funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Bethlehem Christian Church in Clay City, Illinois. Interment will follow the service at Clay City Cemetery. Willard G. Fugate age 83 of Newton, Illinois passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at his home. Cremation rites will be accorded to Willard. Interment services will be held in the Woodland Cemetery, Xenia, Ohio at a later date. Willard was born on November 9, 1939 in Xenia, Ohio, the son of John W. and Iva May (Mongold) Fugate. Willard married Linda May Garland on July 11, 1970. She survives. In his early years, Willard worked as a barber in Ohio. He moved to Humboldt, Illinois, to work with his brother at the Sun Broom Company. In 1976, Willard began working at the Newton Broom Company, continuing until his retirement in 2001. In his free time, Willard enjoyed gardening, photography and computers. He used his computer skills to restore and digitize photos, as well as videos. He enjoyed helping people save their family memories. Willard liked to work. Having a knack for building machines, he enjoyed designing and developing machinery for the factory to increase productivity and efficiency. Willard will be loved and remember by his wife of fifty-three years, Linda Fugate of Newton; children David Fugate of Ohio, Michelle Fugate, companion Brian Brown of Jewett; Chuck Pedigo, wife Cindy of Virginia, Cindy Krugh of Ohio, Rich Fugate, wife Amy of Newton, Ava George, husband Brian of Missouri, Steve Pedigo of Indiana and Melanie Ochs, husband Barney of Newton; fifteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Larry E. Earnest of Newton, IL, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the age of 86. He was a very loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many, who will miss his Christian example and smiling face. Larry was born to Victor and Lois (Kennedy) Earnest on January 3, 1937, in Olney, IL. In October of 1961, Larry met the love of his life, Patty, when she was visiting Newton. He invited her to the bowling alley for a Mountain Breeze (which she didn't like), however this was the beginning of their love story that lasted almost 62 years! Throughout his life, Larry was a dedicated grain and cattle farmer, working with his wife for many years. He was a lifelong 4-H member and was a leader of the Reisner Sunny Pioneers club for 30 years. With an interest in antique tractors, he helped form the Jasper County Antique Tractor & Machinery Club in April, 1999, which started with 4-5 members meeting in his shop. He loved attending tractor shows and would talk with all who passed his way about tractors. He never met a stranger and loved to visit with anyone. Larry was also a dedicated member of the Falmouth United Methodist Church and spent his life living as a Christian example for all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia J. Howe Earnest, daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah & James Riddle, and Diane & Craig Howard; grandchildren Shelby Riddle, Cody Riddle, April Howard, and Steven Howard; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn & Bob Guilander and brother-in-law Ron Howe as well as many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Leland & Faye Howe, sister and brother-in-law Donna & Paul Nelson, nephew Mark Nelson, brothers and sisters-in-law Richard & Maurine Howe, Mac & Wanda Howe, and Charles Howe. Visitation services honoring Larry will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 4-7 pm at Crain Funeral Home, Newton, IL. Lucianne "Luci" Marie Piercefield, 75, of Newton, IL passed away at 4:30 pm on April 12, 2023, at Ridgeview Nursing and Rehab Center in Oblong, IL. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday April 16, 2023, at the New Beginnings Church, 8622 IL- 130 in Newton, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00 to service time at the church on Sunday. Burial will be in the Songer Cemetery rural Rose Hill. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL is assisting the family. Luci was born on June 27, 1947, in Owensboro, KY. She married Tony Piercefield on December 31, 2005. Survivors include her loving husband; daughter Tresa (Blain) Butler; daughter in law Sharon Griffith; grandchildren Caitlin (Jake) Bower, Chauncey (Francis) Gangloff, and Michelle Griffith; great grandchildren Paxtyn and Bentley Gangloff, and soon to arrive Paisley Gangloff. She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Netta Belle (Hicks) Entsminger; son Kevin Griffith; and great grandchild Kendrick Gangloff. Luci loved flowers and owned and operated the Griffith Greenhouse for 25 years, she also was an insurance agent for 10 years with Brown Ins. in Casey, IL. In retirement Luci was a devoted servant of the Lord, making and giving gifts of pocket crosses and inspirational drawings to many. She was founder of "Hands of Hope" and a member of the New Beginnings Church in Newton. Her heart and smile touched so many and will be missed by all who knew her.
