BEVERLY SUE McKINNEY, 77, of Hilton Head Island, SC departed us on Sunday, September 10, 2023. She was born in South Charleston. West Virginia on May 7, 1946. She is survived by her adoring husband of 54 years, Bob McKinney; her two children, Robert Lee McKinney II (his wife Ainslie Morgan) and Heather Sue Venrick (her husband Robert Scott); and three grandsons, John "Jack" William and Morgan Tyler, and Layton "Walker" Venrick; sister-in-law and dear friend, Lynda Castle; her dear puppy Lucki Sue, and many other beautiful family and friends. Beverly graduated from St. Albans High School in 1964. She worked tirelessly, starting an amazing career in banking from the ground up. She worked as a Marketing Officer at First National Bank of Ceredo. She went on to work for First Huntington National Bank, as Director of Marketing. After First Huntington's transition to Bank One, she became Regional Bank President, making her one of the first women in West Virginia to be a President of a Bank. During her time with the bank she was instrumental in their community partnership with Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital and Marshall University as well as many others. She served on many community service and business boards such as Huntington Main Street, Huntington Chamber of Commerce. Her role as a one of the founding board members of the Huntington Sports Committee was one of her cherished civic positions. Throughout all of this, she remained a loving wife and mother, a dear friend, and a mentor to dozens of colleagues and numerous friends. Following her retirement from Bank One, Beverly and Bob relocated to their home in Hilton Head Island where she continued to work in the banking industry for a number of years. Later serving as an executive for Ann Green Communications in South Charleston, West Virginia. During this period, she was a Board Member and Commodore of the Harbour Town Yacht Club and was an active volunteer with Hilton Head Heroes as well as other organizations. Beverly loved to travel, especially on adventures with her husband. She lived a life of joy and laughter, and was generous with her abundant hospitality, excellent cooking, her time, her guidance, and her love. The family's sincere gratitude is extended to her dedicated caregivers who always treated her with such love care and devotion Karen Kelley, E'Lexus Johnson, Kwanda Rivera, Connie Prat, Hennie Muehlfeld and Shaun Snyder as well as others. Their time, attention, and care were a blessing to the entire family. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday September 16, 2023, at St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church, 20 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head Island, SC. Friends are invited to a Celebration of her Life to be held at the Harbour Town Yacht Club, 149 Lighthouse Road, Hilton Head Island, SC at 2:00 pm-5:00 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2023 or at Heritage Farm Museum & Village in Huntington, 3300 Harvey Road, Huntington, West Virginia the afternoon of Saturday, October 28, 2023. Elizabeth Adeline Lenhardt Jones (Betty), beloved wife of Briggs H. Jones died Wednesday, 29 November 2023 on Hilton Head Island, SC. Mrs. Jones was born 9 July 1932 in Charlotte, NC. She was the oldest child of the late Colonel and Mrs. Benjamin F. Lenhardt of Greenville, SC. She was a 1950 graduate of Charlotte Central High School and a 1954 graduate of the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina where she received her BS degree. Mrs. Jones was employed at Headquarters, Ft. Bragg, NC between 1955 and 1956. On 29 December 1956, she married Captain Briggs Howard Jones, USMA 1950, in a military ceremony at the Main Post Chapel at Ft. Bragg. They moved many times during her husband's career with their last station being Washington, DC. Upon his retirement from the Army, they moved to Birmingham, Michigan where he began his second career with Chrysler/General Dynamics. When her husband retired a second time they moved to Wexford, Hilton Head Island, SC where they enjoyed many years of Low Country living. Betty was an active member of Providence Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head as well as Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church when she lived in Michigan. Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband; her son Howard Lenhardt Jones (Marianne) of Jamesburg, NJ; her daughter Catherine Jones Schmidt (Bill) of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren Daniel Howard Jones of Bristol, PA, Caleb Reilly Jones of Philadelphia, PA, Sterling Hamilton Schmidt of Chicago, IL, Brooks Alston Schmidt of Arlington, VA; and siblings Peggy Lenhardt Smith of Point Pleasant, NJ, Benjamin Franklin Lenhardt, Jr. (Cindy) of Charleston, SC, Ann Lenhardt Schafstedde of Raleigh, NC and Sherry Lenhardt Sponseller (Rocky) of Greenville, SC along with many nieces and nephews. A private burial will be in Beaufort National Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church, 171 Cordillo Parkway, Hilton Head Island at 3:00 pm on Friday, 8 December 2023. Robert Wallhaus

Robert Arthur Wallhaus (Bob) July 11, 1937 - November 20, 2023 Husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend departed this life for his heavenly home on Monday November 20, 2023. He died peacefully at his home. He was born on July 10th, 1937, the only child of Bernice and Louis Wallhaus. He grew up in Waterloo, a small town in Southern Illinois. He loved sports and played high school basketball and baseball, scoring 55 points in one high school basketball game. He was valedictorian of his high school class. He attended the University of Illinois where he received a B. S. in Mathematics, an M. S. in Theoretical & Applied Mechanics, and ultimately a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. While there he met and married his true love and companion, Penelope Pietrus, who he married in January 1961. Together they raised three children, Ted, Tom and Gretchen. While Bob began his career with IBM as a systems engineer his lifelong career was in higher education serving as faculty and administrator at the University of Illinois, the University of Michigan and the University of Colorado. In 1970, he moved his family to Boulder Colorado and became Director of Research for the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems. While living in Colorado, they took up skiing, hiking and the great outdoors. He moved back to Springfield, Illinois in 1979, becoming Executive Deputy Director for Academic and Health Affairs at the Illinois Board of Higher Education. After retiring Bob continued to work part time consulting. He moved to Chicago where he and Penny enjoyed life on Lake Shore Drive attending the Lyric Opera, the symphony, theater and running along Lake Michigan. In 2000 they moved to Hilton Head Island where Bob turned his attention to golf, the beaches and close friends. He also enjoyed bridge, poker, playing games with family, and relaxing with a martini and a fine cigar. He never stopped watching the Illini play football and basketball. He loved to travel and together, he and Penny, traveled the world, visiting China, Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, Poland, Alaska, Hawaii and many other destinations. Bob's Christian faith was a core part of his life. He was a lifelong member of the church and an active leader in his local church community. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 20 years where he was as an Elder and member of Session. He was charming, gentle, and joyous. He was known for his intelligence and wit. He loved a good story and told plenty of his own. He lived a complete and joyful life, fully experienced, free of regret. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A life well lived is worth remembering. Bob leaves behind his wife Penny, son Ted Wallhaus (Nancy), son Tom Wallhaus (Abbie), daughter Gretchen Buschmann, and his grandchildren Taylor, (Trevor), Truely, Sophie, and Joseph. Mary Florence Hobson Benson, age 93, departed this life peacefully in Hilton Head Island on Monday, November 20, 2023. She had been a resident of Chattanooga Tennessee since 2006. Mary Florence was born on October 5, 1930, in Luebo, Belgian Congo, Africa as the only daughter of Reverend John Kemp Hobson and Rowena Williamson who were Presbyterian missionaries. As a child, she attended boarding school at Lubondai at the Central School for Missionary Children. After graduation she came to the United States to attend King College in Bristol, Tennessee. While a student there she met and married Ellis Umberger Harr, M. D. , who predeceased her 49 years ago. She graduated with honors from King College. While living in Bristol, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as leader with the Women of the Church and taught Sunday School. She was also president of the PTA, member of the Junior League and an active tennis player. After Dr. Harr's death, she married Edwin Weatherall Smail of Bristol. His death occurred the following year. In 1978, she met and married Dr. Homer Stanley Benson, Jr. , and moved to Columbus, Georgia, where he was a practicing dentist. In Columbus she served as a lay reader, Vestry member and Senior Warden at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She also served as president of the Columbus Symphony Women's Association and as president of the Ivy Garden Club. She was a landscape designer for over twenty years, designing private gardens as well as a multifamily housing development. She was instrumental in the formation of the Columbus Botanical Garden. Her life revolved around plants and gardens, and she loved the smell and the feel of the earth. One of her greatest pleasures was serving as a volunteer at Callaway Gardens, usually in the Sibley Center. In Chattanooga she was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, serving as Town Chairman for two years. She was also a member of the Dirt Dabbers Garden Club. Her friends and family will remember Mary Florence for her wit and love for Stan Benson, her pension for storytelling, building six houses, her passion for the Episcopal Church, and for music. Mary Florence is survived by her four children: Karen White (Harvey), Ron Harr (Linda Andreae), Kristina Higgins (Raymond), and Kemp Harr (Anne); and five grandchildren: Joey White, Ginny Harr Webb, Betsy Harr Akins, Ellis Harr and Abigail Harr; and six great children; as well as her two half sisters, Grace Hobson Hopwood and Ruth Hobson Gilbert. Teri Kopp

August 24, 1938 - November 28, 2023 Teri Rini Kopp, Hilton Head's beloved First Lady of Jazz, passed away peacefully November 28, 2023 at her home in Indigo Run while surrounded by her loving family. Teri was well known around the island and beyond for her musical talents, quick wit, and intense love of Hilton Head Island. Teri was born Theresa Marie Capuzello in Youngstown, Ohio and began her musical journey playing piano at the age of 5. At 10 years old she was invited to study classical music at Youngstown University's Dana School of Music. At age 15, Teri and her father, Frank Capuzello, also an accomplished musician, had a live variety show on station WKBN where her piano playing and singing were featured. Teri was also quite the academic, finishing high school at age 16. Her career blossomed and she was always able to quickly establish a loyal following wherever she played. She became quite well known in the Pittsburgh, PA area in the late 60's and 70's, and was awarded the city's "Top Female Jazz Performer" and a year later Pittsburgh's number one jazz performer. Teri performed with many of the jazz greats including Duke Ellington, George Benson, Natalie Cole, Freddie Cole, and Savanah's own Ben Tucker. She opened for many popular performers, including Billie Eckstine, Mac Davis, Marty Allen, and Pat Cooper, and performed for Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johson. On her way to Florida, she stopped over in Hilton Head to play and fell in love with the island. She made it her home for more than four decades, during which time she was named "Hilton Head's First Lady of Jazz. " Teri played with all of the amazing local musicians countless times at the Jazz Corner, as well as many other well-known jazz venues. While in Hilton Head she also developed a keen interest in real estate and was an independent agent and licensed broker for many years. Teri was also known as a generous supporter of many causes: Muscular Dystrophy, Sickle Cell Anemia, United Way, and Walterboro's Hampton Street Auditorium renovation, to name a few. She was a founding member of Hilton Head's Jazz Society and Savannah's Coastal Jazz Society. She was a board member of the local chapter of the Red Cross, a member of the Italian Club of Hilton Head, and a regular performer at the Gullah Festival. Teri passed just a few months after her husband, Laurence Kopp. Larry, a retired Nuclear Physicist. Larry was also a jazz musician who was also capable of playing multiple instruments, but was mostly seen sporting the clarinet and singing. Together they graced the island, jazz cruises, and venues in other cities and states, with their music, wit, and charm and will be greatly missed as a couple, but also each individually. Teri is survived by her children, Nick (Monica) Rini of New York, NY, Robert "Moose" (Lynsey) Rini of Hilton Head, David (Carol) Kopp of Maryland, Karen (Jack) Kopp Dutiel of Virginia, eleven grandchildren, ten greatgrandchildren, siblings Mary Jane Madeline, George Capuzello (Mary Ann), Fran (Joe) Russ, Linda (Mike) O'Brien, numerous loving nieces and nephews, and is predeceased by her sons Frank (Cindy) Rini and Lee (Sannette) Greenberg of Hilton Head. Donald Wagner

DONALD "Don" STUART WAGNER, age 100, a caring, kind, generous, humorous husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many left us on November 24, 2023. Don was born on April 22, 1923, the son of William E. and Mary Martha (Dorsey) Wagner in Baltimore, Maryland. After serving in the United States Army during WWII, Don met and married the love of his life, Catharine Edith McCurdy in 1948. They built their own home in Riviera Beach, MD, raised their family and resided there until after Don retired from The Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. They then moved to Cambridge, Maryland to enjoy the peacefulness of the bay, nature, making new friends and volunteering at the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. In retirement, Don was also able to continue his love of woodworking, in which family and friends were beneficiaries of the beautiful results. Don remained in Cambridge after losing Catharine on August 23, 2009, until 2014. He then moved to The Seabrook, a retirement community in Hilton Head Island, SC to be closer to family. At The Seabrook, he continued to enjoy his love of woodworking. Along with a friend, he constructed and donated many Little Library boxes which were filled to provide several thousand books to children on and around Hilton Head Island. Donald Wagner is survived by his children, Donald (Tricia Keane) Wagner of Wilmington. NC, and Cathy (Hap) Todd of Hilton Head Island, SC. He was the proud grandfather of Jeff (Cindy) Todd, Mike (Jean) Todd, Ryan (Melissa) Wagner, and Allison (Brett) Lenz. He had nine great grandchildren, Blake, Mackenzie, Brianna, Parker, Kendall, Ivy, Vance, Madelyn, and Olivia. He will be missed greatly. Wilbur Muller

Wilbur H. "Wil" Muller of Hilton Head Island passed away on November 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. A proud native of New Jersey, Wil grew up in Roseland. He graduated from West Caldwell High School, and earned a BA from Franklin and Marshall College and an MBA from Rutgers University. He served in the United States Navy, 1953-1956, with sea duty as the Executive Officer of the USS (LSMR-512). For over 30 years he worked for the Prudential Insurance Company of America. Wil excelled at many things--tennis, paddle ball, stamp collecting, carpentry, and gardening. But his passion was his family. He married Carol Elizabeth Elsener on May 23, 1959, and they settled in New Providence, NJ. They have three sons, who he encouraged to pursue their individual passions and interests. He instilled in them his high standards, sense of fairness and justice, work ethic, good judgment, and above all kindness. After his retirement from the "Pru," Wil and Carol moved to Hilton Head Island in 1996 and never looked back. Wil loved tennis, the family cats, the Dodgers, Captiva Island, world travel, their many friends, volunteering at the Bargain Box, tending his plot at the HHP Farm, and especially his wife, his sons, their wives, and his granddaughter. The annual family Christmas gathering was the highlight of his year. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anna Muller, and his older brother Richard A. Muller. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 64 years; three sons, Richard R. Muller (Cindy), Robert D. Muller (Happy Rhodes), and Stephen J. Muller (Denise Mitchell); his granddaughter, Lauren A. Muller; and his younger brother, Donald C. Muller. A memorial and celebration of life will take place this coming spring. Mary Louise Fender Davis, "Lou", 81 years old, died in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on November 16, 2023. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Lou was born in Lakeland, Ga on March 3, 1942. She was the daughter of Louise Fender Caldwell and Delvin Fender who preceded her in death. Lou attended Georgia Southern University and participated as a majorette in the GSU band. She was married for 59 years to the love of her life, Melvin Davis, Jr, on March 20, 1964. They lived in Macon, Georgia for 20 years where she was involved in their business and investments and raising two daughters. Subsequently, they moved to Hilton Head Island as full-time residents in 1987. Lou was an avid golfer and loved to travel with her husband and family. She was known for her gift of hospitality and enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings for friends and family. Above all else, she noted that her family brought her the most joy. She will be deeply missed by her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her brother and his family, Danny and Edith Fender and Lindsey Fender Brogden of Lakeland, Georgia; her husband, Melvin Davis, Jr. ; daughters, Monica Davis and Mitzi Loudin; sons-in-law, Brett Cargill and Richard Loudin, all of Hilton Head Island. Her grandchildren who lovingly called her Lulu, are Madison and Mallory Loudin, Davis Cargill; and step-grandchildren, Hanna and Michael Cargill.
