Betty Carolyn Bradley Sapp, 89, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late James Pera Bradley and Carrie Saunders Bradley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howell Sapp; and eight siblings, Helen Louise Bradley, Tava Sue Bradley, Frank Lee "Dick" Bradley, Noleta B. Clark, Ruth B. Tallent, Ed Bradley, Weaver Bradley, and Fred Bradley. As a young girl growing up, Betty could often be found with her father, who was the local sheriff, down at the county jail. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Decatur, GA, and had worked with Southern Bell and later retired from Western Electric. Mrs. Sapp is survived by her sister in-law, Patricia Ann Bradley of Mount Vernon, VA; six nieces, Lisa Marie Bradley Epps of Mason Neck, VA, Leigh Ann Bradley of San Diego, CA, Betty Sue Tallent Cabe of Franklin, NC, Freda "Judy" Tallent of Franklin, NC, Elizabeth Clark Hall of Franklin, NC, and Margaret Clark Snyder of Franklin; and two very special friends, Martha Jackson, and Sean Mullis, who was "like a son" to her. A Graveside service will be 2pm on Sunday, October 8, at Woodlawn cemetery. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to one's favorite charity. Early in the morning of December 2, 2023, William Ralph Hall (nicknamed Bub) age 84 left us to be with the Lord. He was born to Williams Ligah Hall and Bertie Leatherman Hall on August 10, 1939. He grew up with his two brothers and three sisters. He joined the Navy at the age of 18. Following his service, he met and married Linda Hyatt. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage this past August. He went to college at night while working full time. After graduating from Kennesaw College, he made a career as a Systems Analyst for Fulton County, GA. After retiring, he and Linda moved back to their beloved mountains. His favorite pastimes were spending time with family and flying. Bub is survived by his wife, Linda, and his two daughters Shelley Williams (Kelly) and Sherri Jones (Loran). He has five grandchildren: Jessica Eller, Chance Jones, Jordan Jones, Alaina Jones, and Anna Jones. He also has two great grandchildren CJ and Alexis Clark. He is also survived by his brother- in-law Jewel Ray Bishop, sister Carla Bowen, brother Ivan Hall (Reba), brother Tom Hall, and sister Margaret Hall Sutton (Danny). There are numerous nieces and nephews that he loved greatly. Bub is preceded in death by his sister Marylee Bishop, brothers-in-law Ted Bowen and Gary Sutton, and sister-in-law Jill Hall. A funeral service will be held December 5, 2023, 2:00 p. m. at Liberty Baptist Church, 67 Mica City Road, Franklin, NC. 28734. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Raymond Hochstetler Jr. , 84, of Franklin, NC, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Raymond was the son of the late Raymond Hochstetler Sr. and Alma Culp Hochstetler. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Neva (Arlen) Slabaugh, Carrol Jean Hochstetler, Howard (Leona) Hochstetler, Lester Hochstetler; sister-in-law, Dee Hochstetler; and son-in-law, Randall Douglas. He was a member of South Macon Baptist Church and co-membership of Christian Church in Palm Shores, FL. He served our country in the US Army. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for over 58 years, a member of the Normandie Breakfast Group, member of the Pistol Team in the Army,and he was an avid hunter when he was younger. He is survived by his wife of 47 1/2 years, Sharon McKinley Hochstetler; daughters, Ginger Douglas of Sanford, NC; Pamela Fincher (Darren) of Sanford, NC; Susan Payne of Muncie, IN; son, Steven Monroe of Melbourne, FL; brother, Dale Hochstetler of Breman, IN; six grandchildren, Megan Coggins (Weston), Morgan Elkins (Adam), Jared Douglas, Justin Gaster, Jeffrey Payne (Katie), Amy Payne (fiance Ryan Friar); great grandchildren, Camden Coggins, Charlie Coggins, Henry Payne, James Payne; special nieces, nephews, cousins, Vickie and Joe Wall, Mike and DeDe McKinley and sister-in-law, Bertha Hochstetler. Mrs. Carrie Lee Henry Cook, 84, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Mrs. Cook was born January 31, 1939, in Macon, County to the late Grady Henry and Eula Houston Henry. Carrie was a member of Bible Baptist Church where she played the piano. She loved to crochet Afghan's and give them away to older people and shut ins. She was a good cook, and her desserts were excellent. Most of all Carrie was a very faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, John Richard Cook of the home; two daughters, Lorna Cook and Janet Marcie (Robert) both of Franklin; a grandson, Shawn Marcie of Franklin; one sister, Stella Young of Franklin; and three brothers, Conrad Henry, Riley Henry, and Warren Henry all of Franklin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by a sister, Lydia Conley. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 3, 2023, in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. John Raby officiating. Maxine Hyatt Sanders, 86, of Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, after an extended illness. Maxine was born November 15, 1937, in Jackson County, NC to the late Frank and Laura Wilson Hyatt. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she was a former secretary, and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of WMU and the Ladies Auxiliary and had worked in quality control at Bassett Walker. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Leonard Claude Sanders; a daughter, Janet Sanders McCall and husband Jerry of Franklin, NC a son, Mark Sanders and wife Melissa, of Baton Rouge, LA; four grandchildren, Dustin Sanders and wife Cecilia, Cory Sanders, Luke Sanders and wife Crystal, and Lindsay Leopard and husband Brian; six great-grandchildren, Sydney McConnell, Charleigh Leopard, Donovan Sanders, Brianna Sanders, Harlow Sanders and Lucas Sanders; a brother, Eddie Hyatt of Marysville, Washington; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Verco Hyatt, Perry R. Benalee McClure Shields, 79, of Franklin, NC, passed away November 25, 2023. She was born February 15, 1944 to the late Benjamin and Dessie McClure of Franklin, NC. Benalee so dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She adored spending time with her family and friends. As hobbies she enjoyed traveling, genealogy, and detective shows. She spoke often of her father's service in WWII as he served under General George Patton in the 5th Army Division, and her mother who was a nurse during the war. She was a dulciemer player who enjoyed playing for others and seeing the joy it brought. She also loved to gather up other friends to go to the Macon County Senior Center. Benalee was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Bena Lee went to Mt. Holly High School, Franklin High School and Georgia State College where she earned her Bachelors Degree. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in her early years and also for Montgomery Ward as a model for clothing. She also worked for the Department of Health and Human Services. She retired after 23 years working as the computer systems manager for the US Forest Service. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy K. Stewart (Ray) of Myrtle Beach, SC; sons, Keith Hagan (Tracy) of Franklin, NC and Ross Shields (Kathy) of Franklin, NC; grandchildren, Ben Hagan of Franklin, NC, Morgan Hagan (Dakota Mercer) of Franklin, NC; great-grandchildren, Joslynn, Gemma, Delilah Grace, Riggs, Briley, Braylan and Ensley; brother, Jerry McClure (Marie) of Otto, NC; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Terry Shields, and her sister, Nora June McClure. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Tien H. Duong officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
