Frances Cole Sartain, 88, of Northport passed away peacefully in her home on February 16, 2024. Visitation will be held at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Randy Fuller officiating. Frances was born in Fayette County, AL and grew up in the Circlewood community in Tuscaloosa. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and attended the University of Alabama. She was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. “Mimi” was widely known for her cooking skills, particularly her poundcakes, peanut brittle, fig preserves and potato salad. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ, her husband (of 62 years), her family and the Atlanta Braves. Nothing thrilled her more than to see her great grandchildren burst through the door, give her a hug and dig into the candy jar. She is preceded in death by her parents Vashti and William Cole Sr., her husband Oinest Sartain, brother William (Bub) Cole Jr. and great grandson Hunter Sartain Jr. She is survived by her son Ted Sartain (Kim), daughter Donna Hoffman (Wayne); grandchildren Hunter Sartain, (Andrea), Clay Sartain (Jesse), Laura Kirk (Robbie), Cole Kennedy, Tyler Elmore (Lacey), Lindsey Elmore; and ten great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Hunter Sartain, Clay Sartain, Cole Kennedy, Tyler Elmore, Doug Henry, and Jeff Kelly. Honorary pallbearers are Barbara and Sam Shute, Lisa Horvath, Ann and Henry Hoffman, Gail Lett, Joanne Porter, caregivers: Tonya Robertson, Cassandra Simmons, Ginger Ward, Jamie Robertson, and Amedisys Hospice Care Team.

Lewis Errol Beasley, age 70, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Graveside service with Military Honors will be held Thursday, February 15, at 9:30 at Sunset Memorial Park and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. at Northport City Hall. Errol is preceded in death by his father, John T. Beasley, Jr. Survivors include his mother, Laura Brazil Beasley, daughter, Jennifer Lynn Beasley, Northport; grandson, Brantley Alexander Hodo (Kierston), great grandson, Paxton James Hodo of Samantha. Brothers are Steven Craig Beasley (Tammy) and Donald Wayne Beasley all of Northport. Errol was born and raised in Northport; he joined the Army National Guard and retired with 42 years of service as Master Sergeant. He worked hard to provide service to his country, his community and his family until his final day. Errol was owner of Major Service Company and employed by the City of Northport as a Maintenance Superintendent with Public Works for 27 years. He was a member of Friends of Historic Northport Board of Directors and his involvement was intricate to maintaining Friends of Historic Northport properties, including The Shirley Place, Northport Heritage Museum, Clements House, and Umbria Schoolhouse. He was also extremely involved with Kentuck Festival of the Arts. Pallbearers are Jeff Wheat, Sylvester Whitehead, Emmitt Prince, Dalton Higgins, Don Beasley, and Brantley Hodo. Honorary pallbearers are Alabama Army National Guard, Cathy Randall, Clark & Sandra Collins, Ryan deGraffenried III, Ken Swindle, City of Northport staff, Donna Barrett, and City of Northport Fire Chief, Bart Marshall. The family offers its sincere appreciation for the outpouring acts of kindness during this difficult time. Marianne Norris Thomas, 78, of Northport died Sunday, January 21st, 2024. Born in Hawkinsville, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Sarah and Cooper Norris She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry. She is survived by her sister, Sarah Turberville. Her daughters: Angela Thomas Smith (George), Tammy Thomas Silverman, Melanie Thomas Comer (Alan); sons: Gerald Jason Thomas and James Robert Thomas (Taylor); grandchildren: George Lanier Smith, Jr, Thomas Charles Smith, Cooper Coleman Smith, Jack Thomas Silverman, Joshua Robert Silverman, Nolan Alan Comer, Marianne Margaret Comer, James Andrew Comer, and Mary Maecle Thomas. Marianne was a graduate of the University of Alabama but was never quite able to yell “Roll Tide”. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over fifty years, serving in many capacities. She loved a beautifully wrapped gift, music of all kinds, and could play anything she heard by ear on the piano. She loved and surrounded herself with flowers. She was a loving, faithful wife and mother. She adored her puppies and her children and will be forever greatly missed. She was larger than life in every sense of the word and never really acted her age or let on quite how badly she felt even in struggling with Leukemia. A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm with Dr Gill McKee officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at the church. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Memory Hill Gardens. Our deepest appreciation to Chris Killian and his “staff of Angels” at Home Instead. A very special thank you to Rosie Bryant and her daughter, Samantha, who were a constant source of love and support. Zoe Ellen Chambers Watkins, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Zoe was born December 24, 1935 in Gadsden, AL to Hoyed and Ella Mary Chambers. Having been born on Christmas Eve, she thought her name should have been Carol but was instead named for the Dean of Women at Auburn University, Zoe Dobbs. After graduating from Gadsden High School and Auburn University, Zoe went to work for Alabama Power Company in Tuscaloosa. On a blind date she met the love of her life, Samuel Albert Watkins; they recently celebrated their 64th Anniversary. Zoe took time off to raise her three children before ultimately retiring from First Alabama Bank. Survivors include her husband, Samuel Albert Watkins; daughters Jenny Edgeworth (Greg) and Carol Thomasson (Jeff); son Kenneth Watkins; grandsons Trey Thomasson and Travis Thomasson; step-grandsons Andrew Thomasson (Sarah) and Scott Thomasson; step-grandchildren Addison Thomasson and Elliot Thomasson; brothers Mark Chambers (Judy) and Lee Chambers (Kathie); sister Lane Nestman; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, AL. Richard Beck Sr., age 91, of Northport, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Burton Beck, mother, Laurene Beck; brothers T.H. Beck, J.B. Beck, Charles Beck; sisters Elura Brewer, Mary Howard and Viola Yaw. Richard is survived by his wife Mary Beck, daughter, Cheryl Farley (Toby); sons, Richard Beck (Regina), Anthony Beck (Donna), sister, Martha Skelton, grandchildren, JoLee Smith, Burton Beck, Brad Hathcock, Brandy Tilley, Sha Hambright, Sarah Cox, Jacob Farley, Rachel Farley, 15 great-grandchildren, 17 nieces and nephews. Richard Beck Sr. left his earthly home January 17, 2024 and went to his heavenly home. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at a young age. He was a lifelong resident of Tuscaloosa County. Richard was a lifelong fisherman, hunter, loved the great outdoors, and spending time with his family. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War and worked as a painter for most of his life. Richard was loved by many, he never met a stranger and will be dearly missed. Serving as pallbearers will be: Brad Hathcock, Burton Beck, Brandon Smith, Taylor Rice, Jacob Farley, Rachel Farley, Blaine Smith, Bryan David Smith, B.J.
