Carol Ann (Melton) Stringer Kleckner, 81, of Blanchard, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023, in Blanchard, Oklahoma. The daughter of Lewis David and Rena Cornelia (Dawson) Melton was born July 23, 1942, in Vernon, Texas. Carol was raised in Borger, Texas where she lived with her mother Rena and her 3 siblings, Travis, David and Joy, Carol was the baby of the family, and she took advantage of that. She attended and graduated from Borger high school in 1960. While still in high school she worked at the Kone N Burger across the street from her home where she met and fell in love with William "Willie" Gadson Stringer. They were married on August 20, 1960. They were blessed with three children, Lesa, Shawna, and William Eugene. Lesa Leann was born on September 3, 1961, and Carol would sometimes tease that she and Willie were married on August 20th and Lesa was born on September 3rd, leaving out that it was a year later. Shawna Sherie was born December 7, 1963, and William Eugene was born on November 18, 1968. William Eugene passed away at the young age of 14 months in January 1970. Carol worked at the Pampa Bra Factory and other various jobs until she and Willie moved the family to Mustang, Oklahoma in 1971. Carol began working in the Mustang Middle School cafeteria in 1973. She later became a cafeteria manager at Mustang Valley Elementary where she worked until she retired in 2003 with over 30yrs of service. After Willie passed away in 1982, Carol also went to work part-time at the Mustang Walmart, she worked there for 20 years when she also retired in 2003. Upon retirement, she moved to Lake Eufaula where she spent her days fishing, sitting on her back porch watching the birds and tending to her flower beds. Unfortunately, Carol was diagnosed with early signs of Alzheimer's. She was later moved to Blanchard, to the nursing home to be closer to her girls and grandkids who loved and cared for her endlessly. Carol was known for her beautiful big smile and her laughter. She had many hobbies throughout her life. She was a master seamstress, she loved gardening, plants, flowers, vegetables, trees. She enjoyed baking and making candies which she often used as Christmas gifts. As Shawna's Campfire Girl Leader, she taught them how to knit and crochet, Lesa and Shawna always had a new poncho when the weather was getting cooler. She was an avid reader of Harlequin Romance Novals; she bought and traded them regularly along with her monthly magazine subscriptions and of course the Bible and Book of Morman. Dancing was also something that she enjoyed; she even took her campfire girls to Disco Dance lessons. Most of all, Carol loved her family and spending time together. She loved her grandchildren, Chrystal, also known as "Granny's little angel" and grandson Chase and spent as much time as she could with them. When the great grandsons Gadson and Gannon were born, she poured her love into them as well. The only thing that came to a close second of things she loved was ice cream, Carol was always eating ice cream and her favorite was Cherries, Pecans and Cream from Braums. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis David and Rena Cornelia (Dawson) Melton, her husband, William Gadson Stringer, her son, William Eugene Stringer, her brothers, Travis Melton, and David Melton and one sister Joy Melton Ray; and numerous other relatives.
