It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Bette D. Johnson. Bette passed away after a long illness due to renal failure. Bette and her husband Warren were lifelong residents of Sonoma County. They were married for 68 years and raised their four boys Steve, Scott, Eric and Ryan in Santa Rosa. Bette was born March 3, 1937, to Edith and Michael Widulstky. She attended St. Rose Grammar School and Ursuline High School, then attended a Dental Hygienist school in San Francsico where she worked for short time before marrying Warren in 1955. They set up a home in Kenwood and then in Bennett Valley before retiring to Oakmont. Bette was very active in the St. Eugene's PTA where she served as President in the early seventies when all four of her children were attending the school. She was also very active in the Ursuline Alumni association and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1965. She was a very active and passionate Catholic, attending St. Eugene's parish for years and then Star of the Valley in Oakmont. After raising her children, Bette received her Real Estate license and sold real estate in the Santa Rosa area for over 10 years. She had many passions: mainly her family and friends, being the matriarch of the family, and hosting family gatherings on every holiday. She had many friends, whose friendships she maintained for decades and truly appreciated. She was an avid travel enthusiast, traveling with her husband on Santa Claus Goodwill tours around the world every year, eventually visiting over 40 countries and also traveling on many cruises. She loved to read and worked crossword puzzles daily, always wanting to ensure her mind was strong. For many years she and Warren enjoyed weekly square-dancing sessions. Bette was in constant touch with her children and grandchildren, always interested in their daily activities and spending time with them on holidays. Bette leaves behind her husband Warren Spencer Johnson, sons Steven, Scott (deceased), Eric and Ryan. Also, three grandchildren, Juliana, Ryan (Kelly) and Nicolas and great grandchildren Serena and Alexandra. There will be a service at a later date.

Ronald Dean Bandiera, 76, passed away surrounded by his family at home on December 4, 2023. Born March 9, 1947 to Ralo and Olympia Bandiera, Ron attended Cloverdale High School, and spent his youth working at his family's winery and racing his beloved "Jack Rabbit" over the First Street Bridge. Ron had a remarkable talent for repairing all things mechanical. He repaired his first car at the age of 10, amazing his family by fixing a broken ranch vehicle after being told "if you fix it you can have it. " After high school, he served in the United States Navy, volunteering for service in April 1966. Ron was very proud of his service, and after his discharge in 1969, he began training in automotive repair. Ron met Karen in 1985 while working together at Western Motors in Petaluma. Soon after their marriage in 1986 they started a family, and raising their children became the focus of their lives together. There were many hours spent watching dance recitals, driving to weekend soccer tournaments, and cheering at baseball games. Ron also developed wonderful friendships throughout his life. He loved sharing his knowledge of cars with others whether it be at work, at home, or on the phone. Ron was a remarkable person. Ron is survived by his loving family - his wife Karen, daughter Amy, and son Joseph (Caitlin). He was thrilled when two years ago Joe and Caitlin blessed him with twin grandchildren, Elliana Rose and Clayton Dean. Ron will also be missed by his walking companion, his dog Sierra. He will be greatly missed by all. Services for Ron will be held at Daniels Chapel of the Roses (1225 Sonoma Ave, Santa Rosa, CA). They include a viewing on Wednesday, December 13th from 4 p. m. to 7 p. m. There will also be a funeral service at 11 a. m. on Thursday, December 14th followed by his burial at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. All who knew him are welcome to come celebrate his life.Show more

Eduardo Acopra Basco passed away at the age of 92 on November 26, 2023, at his home in Santa Rosa. He was born on November 6, 1931, to Ismael Basco and Maria Acopra in the Philippines. Eduardo received an associate degree and worked as a manager in the Filipino government. Eduardo had a family first mentality for everything he did. Everything he experienced in life had some sort of impact on his life, and he had the same impact on others. Eduardo was always the life of the party. He had a joke for every occasion, and his children recall his great use of "Dad Jokes". Eduardo had a zest for life. He loved to travel and was open to new experiences. He also understood that everyone has their own opinions. He also loved to gossip and instigate having a fun time. Eduardo is survived by his children; Elmer (Ammi Rita), Evamagersal, Eduardo Jr. , Eden (John), Elke (Jing), Earl (Joan), daughter in law Tiny Mata Perez, grandchildren; Evan Charles, Ellaine Josephine, Ellinore Josephine, Emarie Josephine, Eva Den, Erika, Miko Eva Paola, Maria Luisa, Ericka Jean, Erwina June, Ella, Eric John, Ermela, Bart, Elke Jillianne, Emiline Joanna, Eduardo Joseph, Mack-Mack, Chi-Chi, Xin-Xin, Junjun, Nina, Lian, Andrew, Ellaine Ann, Edward, Elice, and Jacob, brother and sisters in law; Ismael Jr. (Anicia), Jesus (Thelma), Ramon (Bambi), Sid (Teri), Marie Gaire, Tess Swift, Godofredo Perez and numerous nephews, nieces, great grandchildren and others who knew they held a special place in the life of Eduardo. Visitation will take place at Daniels Chapel of the Roses on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Bill Dodson, age 77, peacefully passed away on November 25 in Santa Rosa, California. He was predeceased by his parents, Warren and Florence Dodson and his sister, Patricia Gossage. He is survived by his wife Toodie who he adored, his daughter Jennifer (Stephen), and his son Justin (Karin), his sister Robin Anderson, and four grandchildren. Bill was particularly proud of his children and their families, and the lives they have made for themselves. Bill graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in 1964, and UC Berkeley as an architecture major in 1972. Besides AXIA Architect, he worked with Jeffries Bolles & Siebert, Schuyler Jeffries & Associates, and Witter Jeffries for most of his 39 year career. He was a principal at AXIA Architects from 1995 until his retirement in 2011. Bill felt strongly about giving back to his community. He served on many boards and committees as well as being active in the Santa Rosa Rotary West Club for several years. He led many events to raise funds for worthy organizations in our community. Bill had a fondness for a classic martini, single-malt scotch, and oysters. He enjoyed a wide range of interests including birding, fishing, painting, cooking, skiing, scuba diving, travel, camping, playing the harmonica and driving his restored 1972 MGB. His personality and natural charisma endeared him to many friends over the years. He had a marvelous sense of fun and was a total optimist. He had an adventurous spirit and a willingness to try anything. A celebration of Bill's well-lived life will be held after the first of the year. Gilda Stapleton, a cherished mother, and Nana to her four grandchildren, passed away unexpectedly in Sonoma, CA, at the age of 78. Born in 1945 on Madeira Island, Portugal, to Vasco and Cremilde Santos, she immigrated to the United States in 1965 and pursued liberal arts at Dominican College. In 1967, at a college dance, Gilda met California Maritime Academy Cadet Thomas Stapleton. After a two-year courtship Thomas & Gilda were married in March 1969. Their son, Thomas Jr. , was born in December of that year. In 1971, the family relocated to Sonoma for a small-town life, and in 1979, Gilda and Thomas parted ways. Gilda, resilient and determined, resumed her studies, becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1983. She dedicated 28 years of compassionate care to patients at Napa State Hospital, earning respect and admiration for her selflessness and humorous approach to challenging situations. At home, Gilda raised her son alone, embracing the role of a single mom with unwavering dedication. Her hospitality extended to her son's friends, ensuring no one went home hungry and earning her the title of a second mom to many. Gilda's captivating stories, ranging from her life in Portugal to hospital experiences, kept everyone entertained. Upon retiring in 2010, Gilda joyfully embraced her role as Nana to her four grandchildren, spending quality time with them and imparting profound beauty in every moment. Whether cradling a ladybug or showcasing her vibrant garden, she made it her mission for all of us to appreciate life's blessings. Gilda's keen ability to find beauty in all moments, even sorrow, left an indelible mark, and her yard, adorned with redwood trees and roses, became a shared celebration of life's wonders. She is survived by her son Thomas Stapleton, daughter-in-law Irene Stapleton, and grandchildren Serena-Helene, Stephanie-May, Thomas, and Voshco. Gilda leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. A funeral Mass will be held on December 1st, 2023 at 11:30am in Madelyn's Chapel at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Santa Rosa, CA. Interment will follow after services.Show more

Michael "Guido" Dolce passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023, with his family by his side. Born on October 25, 1946, to the late Mike and Onorina Dolce in Santa Rosa, CA. He leaves behind his adored wife and best friend Maureen, daughters Michelle (Jason) Gaab, Gina Dolce Ledesma (Jason), Natalie (Ray) Kendall and son Jeff Poncia. His grandkids Gabriel, Araceli, Eliana, Zackery, Bella, Jillian, Tucker and Jacob and great-granddaughter Lailani. His sister Marilyn (John) Davis. His niece Renee (Miguel) Loeza and Mendy Fry. His other sisters Renee (Michael) Milligan, Cheryl (Tim) Bass, Katie (Ron) Matteri, Betty (Norm) Malfatti, Joanne (David) Del Castillo and his twin Bobbi Peter. His other daughters Amanda Navarro, Melissa Gonzales and Lisa Dexter. His other love was his dog Khloe Marie and miniature donkey Minnie. He was a member of Resurrection Parish. He was proud of his Catholic faith - serving as an alter boy at St. Sebastian Church five days a week. He worked for United Parcel Service for 34 years before retiring in 2005. He attended Bellevue Elementary, Herbert Slater and Cook Middle School. He graduated from Montgomery High School - Class of 64. He served in the National Guard from 1964 - 1969. He was a member of the Sonoma Marin Italian Club, Italian American Club, Druids, YMI, Joker's and Street Angel Car Clubs and Romeo (Real Old Men Eating Out). He loved helping anyone who needed help. The word "No" is a word he didn't know. The best time was with his wife, kids, grandkids, family, and friends. He loved going to breakfast and lunches with his buddies (the "Gang"). After he retired he enjoyed having the Gang over for big lunches and every year celebrating his good friend Ed "Bing" Binggeli's birthday. He loved cooking for the Italian American Club and polenta dinners. He loved auto racing and hot rodding and telling jokes. Hard tops at Vallejo, midgets indoor at the Fairground and driving drag boats for his very close friend, the late Ron Fry. Holding many speed records, they always loved to go fast - living life to the fullest and always on the edge. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. He loved being retired and being with his loving wife on their many adventures. He also enjoyed spoiling his grandkids and his daughters, his man cave and his little farm. . . and of course, his Manhattan every night. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 6:00 p. m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses located at 1225 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. at Resurrection Parish Church located at 303 Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa. A Celebration of Life will follow at Tomrose Ranch located at 5307 Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Michael's generous spirit, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Hanna Boy Center or Catholic Charities.
