Bernice Kelley, 90 of Riverdale, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7th, 2023. She was born in Paterson, NJ and was previously a resident of Totowa. She began her career as an airline stewardess for Capital Airlines, and later in years began a successful jewelry business selling through home parties. Devoted mother of Leslie Mecca and her husband Thomas Mecca. Beloved grandmother of Lindsay Mecca, Ryan Mecca and his wife Lorri Mecca, and Great Grandmother of Maximus Mecca. She projected strength, wisdom and love, and will remain forever in our hearts. Mary Patricia "Pat" Bancroft (nee Hade) of Riverdale, NJ passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, March 25, 2023. She was 87 years old. Pat was born February 9, 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and moved to Santa Clara, California, where she graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in English. After a year of teaching abroad in Okinawa Pat, with her life-long friend Pat Galloway, moved cross-country to New York City. From there, she commenced teaching generations of students, for 20 years in the East Orange public school system, and for another 25 years at Our Lady of the Valley catholic school in Wayne, NJ. At the same time Pat raised her five children, known as "Hade's Herd," helped manage her husband Don's law practice, worked summers at Flynn O'Hara Uniforms, and actively participated in her church and her communities in Verona and Pompton Plains, NJ. She hosted bridge games, multiple book clubs, kept up with a broad circle of friends, and often traveled to New York for dinner and a Broadway show. In her last 20 years Pat served as unofficial "mayor" of the Powder Mill Condominiums in Riverdale, NJ, where she could be seen tending to her flower garden and greeting countless friends and neighbors. Pat cherished her friends and family, she was a voracious reader, she cheered on the New York Yankees in the summer and the New York Giants in the winter, and never missed an opportunity to engage anyone and everyone in conversation. Pat was beloved by all, and lived her life with a joyful heart. Pat is survived by her brother, Tom Hade, her children Megan, Shane, Keir, Erin and Ryan, her daughters-in-law Erika Bancroft, Rolaine Bancroft and Jessica Lopez, her son-in-law, Barry Lydon, her brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Janet Bancroft, 19 nieces and nephews, her grandchildren Samantha, Jillian, Dawson, Kaitlyn, Alessandra, Zoe, Connor, Kerry, Dylan and Finn, countless friends, former students, and neighbors. Pat is predeceased by her parents, Laurel and Opal, her husband, Don, her son-in-law Dave Hollberg, her nephews Michael Hade, Keith Bancroft, and Michael Kane, her niece Luanne Kane and her brother-and-sister in laws Shalah Hade, Eugene and Jeanne Bancroft, Robert and Joan Kane, and Neil and Carolyn Bancroft. Ann "Nancy" McLaughlin, 83, a long-time resident of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, and most recently a resident of Riverdale, New Jersey passed away on March 21st, 2023. Nancy grew up in East Orange, NJ, attending Holy Name grammar school and Immaculate Conception High School, in Montclair, NJ After graduating, Nancy worked for the phone company, then raised her three children, before starting a wonderful career with The Beacon, an award-winning newspaper of the R. C. Diocese of Paterson, NJ Nancy served for many years on the Pompton Plains Zoning board and volunteered for the Girl Scouts and at Our Lady of Good Counsel church office. An active person, Nancy enjoyed competing in the Pequannock ladies' golf league, bowling, and softball. In more recent years, she enjoyed the friendships she made at Bloomingdale Senior Center and Pequannock's senior communities. Nancy, who was predeceased in death by her husband Paul of 58 years, and son Paul Joseph, is survived by daughters Ann Marie Wells of Morristown, NJ, and Mary Jane Maley and her husband Rich of Churchville, PA She was grandmother to Conor and Kevin Maley (Mary Jane), Shannon and James Wells (Ann Marie). Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm Thursday, March 30th, at Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains NJ. Obituary of Patricia Canning Patricia (Clancy) Canning 88, a resident of Riverdale, NJ passed away peacefully on August 28, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born on August 8, 1933 to Margaret & Francis Clancy in Brooklyn, NY. She married Austin M. Canning on May 19, 1956 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The family moved to Staten Island, NY in 1963 and then to Packanack Lake, Wayne, NJ in January 1970. Pat began a career with Bell South/AT&T in New York and went on to work at Bamberger's, Union Carbide, AFIA Insurance and then returned to finish her career at AT&T where she retired in 1998. Pat enjoyed living at Packanack Lake and was active in many activities such as tennis, boating and swimming. Pat was infinitely curious, eager to explore new places, and always looking to learn new things. Her travels took her around the world. A few of them were the Scotland, England, Italy, France, China, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Alaska, driving the Pacific Coast Highway, hiking in the Arizona dessert and sailing the Hudson River. She was a master gardener and passionate about her bridge groups. Her favorite television program was Jeopardy, and she rarely missed an episode. She was so proud of all her grandchildren and made she sure she was there for all their life events. Pat is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lovato and husband John of Oak Ridge, NC, sons, Bill Canning and wife, Roe of Kinnelon, NJ, Jim Canning and wife, Lauren of Kinnelon, NJ, Tom Canning, and wife Debbie of New York City, eleven grandchildren, Stephen, Brian, Leah, Austin, Kimberly, Jennifer, John, David, Colleen, Benjamin and Helena, two great grandchildren and sister Joan Doherty of Fredericksburg, VA.
