Bernice "Bern" L. Fish, 104, formerly of Hamilton Square, New Jersey, and Selinsgrove, entered into rest at 1:31 p. m. , Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Brookdale Grayson View, Selinsgrove. She was born September 20, 1918, in Kingston, a daughter of the late Oscar and Velma (Adams) Fish. Bern was a 1937 graduate of Kingston High School. She was employed at Martin Aircraft, Baltimore, Maryland, during World War II. After the war, she worked at the Department of Labor Statististics, Trenton, New Jersey, until she retired in 1978. Bern enjoyed playing pinochle, traveling over the United States, and crossword puzzles. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Linda Derr of Selinsgrove, Joan Stake of Sunbury, Ronald Pardoe of Sunbury, William Pardoe of Sunbury, Polly Rogers of Sunbury, and Dennis Fish of Northumberland. She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Fish; two sisters, Luella Ray and Esther Pardoe; and one step-sister, Irene Transue. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p. m. , Saturday, August 19, at the Higher Hope International Ministry Church, 1000 Race St. , Sunbury. Vivian L. Confer, 89,of Winfield, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center. Born on September 3, 1934 in Alberton, PA, a daughter of the late George G. and Faye (Miller) Livingston. She was married to Larry Lee Confer, who preceded her in death. She was an active member of Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg. Vivian worked as a cataloger at the Public Library of Union County for 20 years until the age of 86. Earlier in life she worked as a high school math teacher. She enjoyed reading, doing crosswords puzzles, and gardening. Surviving is one daughter, Lisa Confer of Fleetwood, two sons, Jonathon Confer of Winfield, Gregory Confer of Branchburg, NJ, 4 grandchildren,Todd, Scott ,Owen, and Liam. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Confer, two brothers, Eugene Livingston, Robert Livingston. In keeping with her wishes services will be conducted privately. She was born June 15, 1965, in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late Creston Orville, Jr. and Carol Evelyn (Kauffman) Garner. Sharon was a 1983 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and earned an associate degree in business management, graduating top of her class at McCann School of Business. She was employed as Shipping and Receiving Clerk at Conagra, Milton, for 23 years. Sharon enjoyed gardening, mowing her grass, swimming, and traveling to the beach. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Surviving are one son Trevor Ulrich of Millmont; one daughter, Christina Ulrich of Milton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven and Kim Garner of Ithaca, New York, and David and Heather Garner of Laurelton; two grandchildren, Autumn and Kayne; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Deborah C. Libby. Born on June 23, 1947 in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Frederick P. and Ruth (Miller) Sherck. On August 10, 2002 in Mifflinburg she married David W. Bingaman who passed away on August 1, 2023. Over the years she held various jobs. She most recently worked at Sheetz, Mifflinburg and Ritz-Craft, Mifflinburg. Pat enjoyed baking for family and friends. She was a former member of Mifflinburg Moose. Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, William F. and Brianna Mitch of Millmont, one daughter and son-in-law, Brandi and Doug Miller of Millmont, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Frederick Sherck and Robert Sherck, a sister-in-law, Susie Roadarmel of Mifflinburg, one sister, Becky Starkloff of Florida. Robert C. Emery, 91, of 1350 Forest Hill Rd. , Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 3:07 p. m. , Saturday, November 11, 2023, at home. He was born March 30, 1932, in Millmont, a son of the late Rollin Charles and Helen Edna (Grove) Emery. On February 23, 1952, in Winfield, he married the former Virginia May Schreck, who preceded him in death in 1990. Robert attended Mifflinburg Area High School. He served in the Air force from June 1951 until his honorable discharge May 9, 1955. Robert was employed at American Home Foods, Milton, for over 40 years. He was a member of the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, gardening, and especially spending time with his family. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Patty Emery of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and William Reed of Mifflinburg; five grandchildren, William Reed of Mifflinburg, Wendy and her husband Wayne Doebler of Mifflinburg, Stacey and her husband Michael Campbell of Mechanicsburg, Krista Emery and her husband Leonardo Olvera of Toronto, and Ryan and his wife Amy Emery of South Berwick, Maine; 11 great grandchildren; and one sister, Fae Hanselman of Mifflinburg. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Forrest, Warren, Richard, and Neil Emery; and two sisters, Josephine Haggy, and Kathryn Weller. Ellen M. Pursley, 59, of 215 Glen Iron Road, Millmont passed away on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023 of Evangelical Community Hospital due to a short battle with cancer. She was born in Lewisburg, PA, on January 15, 1964 a daughter of the late Elwood and Eleanor (Lamey) Pursley. She was a 1981 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and SUN Area Technical School of New Berlin. Ellen was employed at Spectro Knit Sewing Factory as a teenager and worked there many years. She also worked at Laurel Market in Laurelton and Boomerangs. Ellen enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, her (lil monkey), hanging out with friends, the Eagles, and mountain rides. Surviving is her daughter and greatest love Megan Shawver and her granddaughter, Aubrae Mullany both of Glen Iron, her partner and great love Doug Epley of Weikert, three sisters, Clara (Dennis) Kuhns of Middleburg, Harriet (David) Boop of Glen Iron, Crystal (Travis) Boop of Laurel Park, one brother, Elwood Pursley Jr. of Forest Hill. Also survived by numerous nieces and a nephew and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her first child (stillborn) Andrea Pursley. Veronica Hyatt

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Veronica (Atkinson) Hyatt, 83 on September 28th surrounded by her loving husband. She was born in Liverpool, England on June 3, 1940, to David Atkinson and Elizabeth (Frazier) Atkinson, the youngest daughter of seven children. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bernard Garrity, Frank Atkinson, Margaret McCoy, Brian Atkinson, and Ronald Atkinson. Veronica was best known for her signature hair bun and English accent. Coming to the United States March 5, 1960, at the age of 20, as an au pair, she soon after met the love of her life. According to her, Kenneth left a smile on her heart the first time they met. On May 12, 1962, the two exchanged their vows at St. Mary's Church and promised each other a lifetime of love and happiness. The two established their first home that was built from scratch by her love in Silvermine, CT. A proud Brit and a proud American, she represented her love for both countries by displaying her collection of horse brass around her house and an American flag pinned on every blouse. Most days you could find Veronica reading books by her favorite author, Danielle Steele with a nice hot cup of tea or watching the Hallmark channel as she was a hopeless romantic. As a creative outlet, Veronica would demonstrate her painting skills by painting handsaws and milk cans with beautiful country landscapes. As she was a beautiful artist, she also was an even greater baker. Her cakes were as lovely on the eyes as they were on the palate. One of the biggest traits that Veronica was known for was her giving heart. Always putting people before herself made her one of the most selfless people. And if she did not have a gift to give, she always gave the gift of laughter. Her sense of humor was undeniable. Constantly making jokes, she would get everyone laughing so hard that she would even start to cry. Veronica is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hyatt, her daughter and son-in-law Heather and Joseph Carusone and their two children Michelle Frayne (Chris) and Peter Carusone. She was also survived by her son and daughter-in-law Kenneth Jr. and Jane Hyatt and their two children Kristen Benitez (Zachary McEwan) and William Benitez (Brittany Boudreau). Additionally, she was survived by her brother, David Atkinson of Washington state as well as several nieces and nephews. The entire Hyatt family will be forever grateful to the loving caregivers and friends that helped her throughout the years. Eleanor Weiser

Age - 100

She was greeted with cheers, hugs, kisses and high fives in April of 2023 when she celebrated her milestone birthday of 100 years, outliving her brother and each of her eight sisters. Now with her passing on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, each of those same 34 nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews who came together for her birthday will assemble once again to mourn her death. Graveside services at Mifflinburg cemetery will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11 am. Born on April 25, 1923 in MIfflinburg, a daughter of the late Charles and Hannah Emma (Hauck) Weiser. She is a descendant of Frederick Weiser, the fourth child born to John Conrad Weiser and Anna Magdelena Uebele Weiser. She graduated from Mifflinburg High School class of 1940. At the age of 22, she went to live with her sisters in Philadelphia, where she enrolled in a two year phlebotomy program offered by the Pennsylvania Hospital. Upon her graduation she transferred to Children's Hospital where she worked in several of the hospital's clinical laboratories, eventually becoming the head of the serology Lab, a position she held for many years until she retired. She taught dozens of Students and mentored many at the beginning of their careers. Her interests were many. She loved to travel, driving once to California and back in her stylish, white Chevrolet convertible Impala with red leather seats, and making many other trips around the eastern part of the United States and Canada. She expressed her creativity with photography owning several 35 mm cameras, one of the first Poaroids and a Kodak Super 8 mm movie camera, projector and screen. She appreciated the arts so much so that she held season tickets for many years to the Phildelphia Orchestra, the Walnut Street Theater and National Geographic Travelogues. Often, she went to New York to see operas at the Met. She loved to garden, grow flowers and watch birds. In her later years she took lay ministry courses offered by the Methodist church, gave programs for the Women's auxiliary, and served as her church's Treasurer for more than a decade. While we will no longer be able to see her in person, our beloved matriarch will be watching down on her surviving family members, safeguarding and guiding them to their next lives.
