- Bernard J. Wolff, 93, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the home. Bernard was born May 26, 1930, in Rome, NY, the son of James and Elizabeth (Wolff) Shanley. He was adopted by his uncle and aunt, George and Edith Wolff, at the age of three after his mother's passing. Bernard was a high school graduate and attended Seminary in Rochester. Although he did not take the final vows to become a priest, he remained devoted to the Catholic church throughout his life. Bernard was employed with the Rome DDSO for many years, caring for those in need. Although he didn't have children of his own, he is survived Shawn (Mrs. Richard) Petrie, Westmoreland and her sons Shane and Matthew, who he thought of as his children and grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Thomas Nelson, Wisconsin as well as many nieces and nephews. Bernard is predeceased by Richard Petrie, and twelve siblings. The family offers a special thank you and their heartfelt appreciation to Kelly Leuschner for the many years of care and kindness she had given to Bernard. A graveside service for Mr. Wolff will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Cemetery in Clinton. Those wishing may donate to St. Mary's Church, Clinton in Bernard's memory. Mark R. Klausner, 68, passed away at home unexpectedly on December 2, 2023. He was born in Utica on April 26, 1955, a son of the late Bernard and Pauline (Williams) Klausner . Mark was raised in Clinton and attended Clinton School s. He enlisted in the United States Army serving in Germany as a drummer with the military band . He was united in marriage to Carol Gaffney on August 31, 1979 , at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Utica . Mark served the City of Utica for 20 years with the Utica Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant. He worked for La Galerie Rouge for many years and was a special part of the Owens- Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Home family. Mark was community-minded and loved his hometown of Clinton . He was a devoted member of Clinton United Methodist Church, where he was the current Chair of the Church Council and their drummer for Sunday services . Mark was a past Assistant Chief and proud member of Clinton Fire Department . He looked forward to volunteering at the Country Pantry on distribution days. Mark bowl ed in leagues for many years , loved to watch hockey and the Buffalo Bills , and meeting the guys for coffee club . He was a strong-willed man with a soft heart and great sense of humor . Animals held a special place in his heart, and he would have given a home to every stray cat or baby crow if he could . Mark was a talented craftsman and a fussy painter. He loved music - especially old country music, not this new stuff. He had a passion for history and was a stickler for grammar and the whole system and structure of language . Mark's greatest joy was being "Big Papa" to his grandkids. He is survived by his wife Carol; two sons and daughters-in-law, Matt Klausner and Abby Drumm and Andy and Meghan Klausner; his grandchildren, Willard James and Amos Drumm Klausner, and Finley Moore and Hadley Jane Klausner; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Kerry Rogers; brother David Klausner; nephews, Daniel and Holly Rogers, Benjamin and Ashley Rogers, and Daniel and Gianna Klausner; his cousins, Richard Williams and Betty Ann Jones; his mother-in-law Patricia Gaffney; in-laws, Christine and Evan Pearl, Jack and Janice Gaffney, and Jim and Theresa Gaffney; many nieces and nephews in the Gaffney family; and many dear friends. Shirley E. Demorest, 86, passed away at home on November 28, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born January 1, 1937, a daughter of the late Charles and Emily (Letson) Burmaster. Shirley was united in marriage to Earl W. Demorest on August 24, 1957. She worked for Hostess and Sears in the accounting department for many years. Shirley will be remembered for her quiet and loving ways. Her actions spoke louder than words. She was a quiet and creative soul who enjoyed ceramics, macrame and crocheting. Her grandchildren have blankets lovingly made for them by grandma. She is survived by her husband Earl; the memory of her son Earl Jr. who died in 2009; her children, Melody Knowles of Albany, Renee and Ken Cuda of Baldwinsville, Darlene and Martin Snedeker of Rome, and Steven and Christine Demorest of Summerset, PA; her six beloved grandchildren, Alyssa and Taran Fleming, Joanne and Matt Getman, Rebecca and Quinn Kelly, Kevin Shoemaker, Ashley Demorest, and Marisa Knowles; her four great-grandchildren, Harrison and Elana Fleming and Morgan and Taylor Kelly; and her dog Taffy. Albert E. Geer, 91, died unexpectedly on November 23, 2023, and is now reunited with his beloved wife Sandra. He was born in Avoca, Pennsylvania on October 2, 1932, a son of Francis and Helen (Terns) Geer. The family moved to Chadwicks when he was a young child and he graduated from Chadwicks High School. His first few jobs were in Chadwicks and included washing dishes at Willowvale Diner and driving for Jones' Ambulance Service. He began his 70+ year automotive sales career at Dahl Motors. Other dealerships he worked at included Main Street Motors, Norm Hannah Chevrolet, Morris Chevrolet and Oldsmobile, Frank Gee Chevrolet, C. Weaver Chevrolet, and finished his career at Davidson Chevrolet. He was known as "The Working Man's Friend". Al was a highly recognized member of the Chevrolet Legion of Leaders and Central New York Truck Sales Honor Club, frequently holding positions of leadership. Al married Sandra J. Dennison on February 26th, 1955, at St. Mary's Church in Hamilton, NY. Theirs was a union that lasted 68 years until her recent passing this summer. They made their home in Clark Mills for the rest of their lives. Al enjoyed traveling with members of the family to many places including Lake George, Lake Placid, New York City, Carlisle, PA, Reading, PA, Ogunquit, ME, Sunset Beach, NC, and Ohio, Florida, and Texas. He was a passionate sports fan, enjoying NASCAR racing, UConn girls' basketball, Syracuse basketball, Kansas City Chiefs football, any team Breanna Stewart played for, and numerous teams in the NHL. His favorite NASCAR driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr. , and he had the privilege of acting as Dale's C. Weaver Chevrolet liaison whenever Dale traveled in the area. Al was a member and usher at Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. He was also an active member of YASMAC. He will be deeply missed by his three children and their spouses - Donna and Bob Maxam, Kevin and Donna Geer, and Debbie and Mark Edick; adored grandchildren Danielle and Adam Westerfeld, Ryan Geer, and Kelly Geer; and his beloved grandpuppies Lexie, Charlie, Jake, and Finley. He leaves his cousins Larry Geer and family, Michael Geer, Christine Geer, and Patricia Manley Stuttard. Al was very close with his niece Celeste (Brian) McKissick and family of Ohio. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers and their wives, his cousin Wayne Geer, and nephew Stephen Dennison. He was also predeceased by many dear friends including Joe Lomanto, Wayne Martin, and John Morris. He had many dear friends who enriched his life; Tom and Betty Chamberlain, Mike Dier, Warren Evans, Pat Young, Don Olmstead, and too many others to list. He also had many wonderful neighbors who looked out for him, especially Teresa Steele. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the emergency services personnel who showed such kindness. The warmth and respect shown by the responding members of New Hartford Police, Clark Mills Fire Department, and COVAC will not be forgotten. Joan B. Ahders, 91, of New Hartford, NY, and formerly of Deansboro and East Islip, NY, passed away peacefully at the Presbyterian Home on Saturday November 18, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Joan was born on August 25, 1932, in Manhattan, N. Y. , daughter of the late John P. and Rose L. Bresseleers (Shimol). She was united in marriage to Howard Ahders at St. Mark's Church in Islip, Long Island, NY in 1955, a blessed union of over 68 years. Joan graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach at Military School in Aberdeen, Maryland. Joan loved to spend her free time reading and with needlepoint, cross-stitch, and embroidery. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whether at the family summer cottage in Walton, vacationing locally or on several European riverboat cruises. Joan is survived by her husband Howard Ahders, a son, Howard "Ward" Ahders Jr. and daughter-in-law Robyn Ahders, of Melbourne, FL, a daughter, Kim Goodson and partner Robert Pentasuglia of Marcy, former son-in-law, Mark Goodson, of Deansboro, grandchildren, Jason Ahders, Alexandra Ahders, Brienne Goodson-Beck and husband Charles, Paige Goodson, a great-granddaughter, Lila Joan, a sister, Adrienne Leibundgut, of Norwich, N. Y. , and several nieces and nephews. The family extends thanks and gratitude to caregivers Debbie White, Pamela Fleming, Michelle Phillips, and the staff at the Presbyterian Home for all their care and support. Elsie A. Bellows, 84, died November 14, 2023, at Lutheran Care. She was born May 28, 1939, in Plattsburgh, a daughter of the late Charles and Rose (Giroux) Daniels. Elsie was united in marriage to Clayton F. Bellows on June 29, 1957. The couple shared nearly 40 years together until Clayton's passing on June 21, 1996. Elsie had a good work ethic and instilled that her family. She retired from Par Technology after 25 years of service. She was a volunteer with Helping Hands at Lutheran Care and was a member of the Clark Mills American Legion Post #92 Auxiliary. Animals held a special place in her heart. She always looked forward to camping trips, playing bingo, the casino, playing cards at the legion, but most of all spending time with her family. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Deborah and Keith Rice of Oriskany Falls, Clayton "Butch" Bellows of Clinton, and Kenneth and Heather Bellows of Fort Mill, SC; her five grandchildren, Stephen and Rebecca Rice, Andrea Rice, Shawn Bellows and Elyse Enea-Bellows, Lexi Bellows, and Khloe Bellows; her six great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rice, Kendra Winterton, Kara Rice, Kenleigh Winterton, Aiden Bellows, and Theo Bellows; a brother Floyd Daniels of Plattsburgh; a sister Faith Moffler of FL; and many nieces and nephews. Irene M. Schreppel, 98, passed away October 27, 2023, with her son by her side. She was born on June 25, 1925, in Waukon Township, Minnesota to Walter and Mae (Chloupek) Martin, and raised and educated in Gary, MN. After the death of her parents, she moved to New York to be with her brothers. It was in NY Irene met Donald Schreppel, the love of her life. They were married on July 31, 1948 and shared 40 wonderful years of love and devotion until his passing on April 16, 1988. Irene worked at Sears and Kmart for many years as a sales associate. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. Her family was her priority. She enjoyed cooking for them and passing on her family recipes. Each member of her family had an afghan lovingly made by Irene, especially for them. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kathy Schreppel; her grandchildren, Sheila and Scott Henderson, Ryan and Denise Rogan Schreppel, and Amy Schreppel; her great-grandchildren, Abigail Rogan, Sydney Henderson, Rylee Lenning, Aubrey and Sean Schreppel; her many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Mary and Ron Merritt. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald; her daughter Sharon Tindall; her parents; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Adele Martin, Larry and Angie Martin, James and Julie Martin and LeRoy Martin; her infant sister Mary Ann; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Geraldine Schreppel.
