Bernard Alen Spriggs Senior of Waldorf Maryland. An 86-year-old proud decorated veteran of the United States Navy lost his battle with Cancer on September 8 , 2023. The Son of Mary and Nelson Spriggs, Bernard Spriggs Sr. was born on February 25 , 1937, and grew up in Washington D. C. At the age of 17 Bernard Spriggs Sr. enlisted in the United States Navy. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CWO3). As part of his 24-year service, he was deployed to several duty stations and served aboard many Aircraft Carriers during war and peace times. Bernard Spriggs Sr. is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth Spriggs, daughter Geraldine Hoffler, son Bernard Spriggs Jr. , daughter-in-law Sylvia Spriggs, son Eric Spriggs, daughter-in-law Jen Spriggs, and daughter Amanda King along with eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mr. Spriggs settled into a life of service in several school systems, coaching and mentoring young people in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program, providing life training in leadership development skills for all attendees. In addition to his various careers, Bernard Spriggs Sr. was an amazing singer and performer (solo or on stage with military jazz bands, and civic organizations). In addition, he leaves behind his legacy of artwork, painting on velvet. ** A viewing will be held on the 21 of September at Adams-Green Funeral Home located at - 721 Elden Street, Herndon VA from 1300 - 1600 and laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery at later date. John Horace Murphy, a beloved husband, father, mentor, uncle and friend, went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2023, in Waldorf, Maryland. Born on May 15, 1948, John was a native of Charles County, Maryland. He was the son of the late John and Nettie Murphy. He was the second youngest of nine children; seven older sisters and one younger brother. Throughout his life, John showed unwavering love and commitment to his family. He married the love of his life, Betty Killen Murphy, on August 30, 1969, and celebrated 51 years of marriage. Along with the love, laughter, trials and tears, they also shared an unwavering Faith and Strength in the Lord. The Lord blessed John and his beautiful wife with two loving daughters, Katie Suzanne and Molly John, whom he loved with all of his heart. John was dedicated to his family and treated his sons-in-law as his own children. John was a hard-working husband and father. He retired from the Federal Government in Indian Head after 38 years of service. Shortly thereafter, he returned to work part-time as a Contractor in D. C. He enjoyed working and was honored to provide for his family. As well as being a devoted husband and loving father, John was well-loved by his Church family. As an elder of Potomac Heights Baptist Church, the members became his second family; his chosen family. Also known as Mr. John and Uncle John, he was a true servant of the Lord. He was always eager to help anyone, whether it was a time of need, a warm gesture, or an act of kindness; there were no bounds. John loved to garden and kept a beautiful yard. He always loved being outside with his Bible and coffee and enjoyed taking naps outside on bright sunny days. John truly was a man who was thankful for all of God's beautiful creation. John was preceded in death by his late wife, Betty Killen Murphy, his daughter, Katie Suzanne Dorsey, and his sisters Madoline, Jean, Anna, Helen, Lois, and Margaret ("Pixie"). He is survived by his daughter Molly (Steven), brother Edward (Diane), and sister Irene Logan (Carl), along with many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews. The list goes on for ages, as he saw numerous friends, confidants, and mentees as his hand-selected family. The family will receive friends and loved ones at Potomac Heights Baptist Church on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 11 AM, until the time of the Memorial service at 12 Noon. "Ilene Gibson Robinson, a resident of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, at the age of 63. Ilene was born in Cheverly, MD, on October 15, 1960, to her parents Richard and Sarah Gibson. Ilene spent her career in banking, working as a teller for over 40 years. She cherished her job and took pride in her work. She was always known for her hard work, attention to detail, and her willingness to lend a helping hand to her colleagues. In 1979, Ilene met her future husband Kenneth Robinson while bowling, and were married on June 30, 1981, and was blessed with step-son Kenneth Robinson (Kristen) of Fairfax, VA. She spent her free time indulging in her hobbies, which included playing bingo at ADF, playing cards (especially pitch), and going to casinos. In addition to these activities, Ilene also made diamond paintings. She found this activity to be both relaxing and fulfilling and often gifted these paintings to her loved ones. Ilene was an avid reader and spent many hours poring over her favorite books. She loved nothing more than curling up with a good novel and losing herself in the story. Despite all of these activities, Ilene\u0027s greatest joy was spending time with her family and her beloved golden retriever Buddy. She cherished every moment she spent with them. Ilene was predeceased by her parents, and her two brothers Donald and Darrell Gibson. She is survived by her husband, son, and grandchildren, Owen Robinson and Heather Robinson as well as her cousins, who were like sisters to her, Helen Gibson and Cathy Rudder. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will always be remembered and deeply missed. "Cleo Jeannette Cox, age 92, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at her home in Port Tobacco, Maryland on October 21, 2023. Born on October 29, 1930 in Montgomery County, Virginia, she was one of 10 children from the late Roy Roop and Stella Roop. Cleo was a gifted Caretaker for the State of Maryland. She enjoyed crocheting, working in her flower garden, doing crossword puzzles, word search books, jig saw puzzles, camping, mystery trips hosted by Keller Bus Company, and listening to bluegrass music. She was also a regular at the local gym, keeping up with her fitness well into her 80's. Cleo was of the Baptist faith and attended the Potomac Heights Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Cleo was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Kelly Robert Cox; her daughter Christie Cox who passed away in 1966; son-in-law Freddie Crouse; sister and brother-in-law Carlene and Herbert Hollingsworth; brothers Curtis Roop, Carl "Shorty" Roop, Cecil Roop, infant Clinton Roop; and brother-in-law, Floyd Pitts. Cleo is survived by her children Carolyn Crouse, Gary Cox, Ava Bowden (Tommy Dixon), Janet Cox, Beckey Haft (Howard Haft), and Roy Cox; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren with one on the way; 6 great-great grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Claudine Pitts, Christine McClaughtery (Mike), Cherrie Roop (JR), Carmen Roop (Anna Mae). Sisters-in-law Lois Roop, Shirley Roop, Judy Roop, June Cox. Bruce Alan Youmans, of Waldorf, MD passed away on November 23, 2023 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 15, 1952 to Robert and Katherine Youmans in Takoma Park, MD. He graduated from Montgomery High School in 1970; then in the fall of 1970 entered an electrical apprenticeship where he achieved his Master Electrician's License in 1980. After nearly 28 years working in the construction industry, he went to work for the Department of State as a Foreign Service Facility Manager. He worked in this capacity for 20 years until he retired in 2017. His overseas assignments included: Tunis, Tunisia; Lilongwe, Malawi; Tirana, Albania, Kabul; Afghanistan, and Bridgetown, Barbados. He also served in the following domestic assignments: FM Program Manager, SPT Division Chief, and in HR/CDA/BEX. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clark Wilson Youmans, as well as his sister-in-law Helen Goundry. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Frances "Fran" Youmans; his children, Michael L. Youmans (Carole) of Mechanicsville, MD, James Nathanial Youmans (Christy) of King George, VA, Teresa Joy Lewis (John) of Charlotte Hall, MD, Sara Diane Gunderson (Kirsten) of Riva, MD, Paul Anthony Hahn (Vicki) of Waldorf, MD, and Erica Lynn Hahn of Chesapeake Beach, MD; his siblings, Linda Gardner, Claire Louise Richtmyer, Lloyd Edgar Youmans (Beth), Frank Lee Youmans (Rhonda) and Elizabeth Handzo (Jay); as well as his grandchildren, Alexandra, Nichole (D. J. ), Samantha, Jessica, Zachary, Caitlyn, Meagan, James, Nathan, Ashlyn, Elijah, Andrea, and Lucy; and one great-grandson Archer.
