"Benny Tyrone McDowell, Sr. , age 71, of New Orleans, LA, passed away on April 27, 2023, in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born on October 23, 1951, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Robert Lee McDowell, Sr. and Idella Johnson McDowell. Benny graduated from John H. Martyn High School, then he went straight to the Army. Benny served in the United States Army during Vietnam. Benny spent his final days at Jamestown Nursing \u0026amp; Rehab, where he was known as 'the Mayor'. He filled his days walking the halls of the facility making jokes, bringing smiles and laughter to the residents and staff. He also enjoyed reading the daily newspaper, playing bingo, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Benny loved bowling, softball, racing cars and the New Orleans Saints. Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Robert McDowell and Idella Johnson McDowell; brother, Robert McDowell, Jr. ; and sister, Gloria Abdullah. Benny is survived by his daughter, Monique Harris and husband Ron; son, Benny McDowell, Jr. and wife Kesha; brother, Harold McDowell and wife Carolyn; five grandchildren, Nadiyah Harris, Jeremiah Harris, Benjamin McDowell, Braylan McDowell, Bria McDowell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Benny was loved, and his presence will be missed by many. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, 4520 N. Crossover Road, Fayetteville, AR, following at 12:30 PM, a graveside service with Military Honors at Fayetteville National Cemetery, 1000 S. Lt. Col. Leroy Pond Road, Fayetteville, AR.
