Bennie G. Barricks, 77, of Union Mills, passed away peacefully at 6:00 p. m. , Friday, September 8, 2023 at Northwest Health in La Porte. He was born September 22, 1945 in Charleston, West Virginia, to Charles and Dora (Boyd) Barricks. On August 28, 1964 in Morehead, Kentucky, Bennie married Stella Mae Lewis, who survives. He was a carpenter and member of the Local 413. Bennie enjoyed gardening and loved his family. He will be greatly missed. Also surviving are daughters, Patricia (Nathan) Declouette and Laura ( Scott) Robbins; two sisters, Charlesetta Sprankle and Gayle Sloan; four brothers, Russell Barricks, David Barricks, Anthony Barricks and Stephen Barricks; four grandchildren, Jillian Declouette, Jared Declouette, Adam Schlegelmilch and Kaitlyn Schlegelmilch. Earnest Wayne Wheeler, known affectionately to friends and family as Wayne, passed away on December 4, 2023, at his home in La Porte, Indiana. Born on May 31, 1943, in Oklahoma, Wayne's life was marked by a spirit of adventure, a warm sense of humor, and a deep commitment to his loved ones. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his years. After his service, Wayne's entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a beloved restaurateur, where his friendly demeanor and exceptional sense of humor made him a well-known figure in his community. Growing up in the mountains of Casper, Wyoming, Wayne developed a love for the great outdoors. Fishing was not just a pastime but a passion, and he could often be found by the water's edge, rod in hand, enjoying the serenity of nature. Wayne's adventurous spirit never waned, and it was this zest for life that he shared generously with all who knew him. Wayne was a devoted husband to his wife, Rachelle (Schultz) Wheeler, whom he married on July 13, 2016. Their partnership was marked by mutual respect, laughter, and an unwavering support for each other's dreams and aspirations. Together, they created a home filled with love and open arms to family and friends. He was a cherished father to his daughters, Sarah Harmon of La Porte, Angela Dawn of Riverton, Wyoming, Michelle LaRue of Casper, Wyoming, Jessica Fritzen of Richmond, Virginia, Rebecca Beadles of La Port, and Amanda Hopkins of La Porte. Wayne's legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, whose lives he touched with his humor, guidance, and unending love. He took great joy in their accomplishments and milestones, always there to celebrate or offer a word of encouragement. Predeceased by his parents, Earnest Lee Wheeler and Barbara (Boyce) Wheeler, Wayne is remembered as a pillar of strength and a source of boundless laughter for his family. His stories and jokes will be recounted at family gatherings for years to come, keeping his spirit alive in the hearts of those he leaves behind. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Wayne Wheeler was funny, friendly, and adventurous--a man who lived with his whole heart and inspired others to do the same. As we say goodbye to Wayne, we take solace in the memories we have and the love he gave us. His was a life well-lived, and he will be profoundly missed. Ronald Winfrey, 82, of Michigan City, passed away peacefully at 9:20 p. m. , Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Symphony of Chesterton. He was born on August 11, 1941, in North Judson, to Lehman and Geneva (Thurman) Winfrey. On September 8, 2012, in Michigan City, Ronald married Mary Beth Cochran, who survives. Ronald attended Baptist Bible College where he obtained a Bachelor degree in pastoral studies. He was very active in church and taught Sunday school. Ronald loved to work in the yard and take care of his home. He will be greatly missed. Also surviving is his daughter, Kim (Steven) Powell; grandchildren, Joshua, Stephanie, Caleb, Rebecca, Hannah and Michael; great grandchildren, Joseph, Jason, Emmalynn, Serenity, Brandon, Julian, James III, Johnathan and Isabella. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lynn (Duty) Winfrey; son, Cary Winfrey; sister, Linda Ledbetter. Stanley F. Harenzo, 79, of La Porte, Indiana passed away December 4, 2023, at Miller's Health and Rehabilitation. Stan was born on February 16, 1944, in La Porte to Rudolph and Ann (Luber) Harenzo. Stan was a 1962 LPHS graduate. Stan served in the US Army Reserves. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. On May 16, 1970, Stanley married Georgette W. Galko. In 1976 the couple moved to Lexington, North Carolina with Indiana Moulding & Frame Company. In 1978 Stan opened his own business F & G Moulding and in 1980 he opened M & S Finishing Company. Stan and Georgette retired from the business in 2018. The couple then returned to La Porte in 2019. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Judy Harenzo and Barbara Zeese; and brother-in-law, Elson Zeese. Stan is survived by his wife, Georgette; and his godchildren, Abbey Hedrick, Sheli Leal, Tim Ott, Amy Lutterman, Gabrielle Upp, Jacqueline Leal, and Alexandra Leal; and extended family, Melisa Long, and Jason Lilly. Stan was also blessed to have a "Best Girl Friend", in Glenna Wiltfong Ott who unselfishly shared her family with him and Georgette, including her grandsons, Woldgang and Vladimir Lutterman, and great granddaughters, Adaline and Wren Lee Upp. Stan and Georgette were also blessed by Abbey Hedrick to have shared her children, Grace Lynn and Mason Hedrick. Stan will be remembered for his love for his family and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a. m. to 10:30 a. m. , on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Frank L. Ronnie Lynn Cooper, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 3, 2023. He was born on June 14, 1949 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of the late Clyde and Katherine (Propes) Cooper. He was a 1967 graduate of Union Township High School. After retiring from the Department of Public Works in Griffith, Indiana, he enjoyed hunting and shooting, and was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion, Zook Farrington American Legion Post #434 in Kingsford Heights, Indiana. He loved playing league pool, target shooting, skeet shooting, driving around his woods, and spending time with his friends and fellow Legion members. Ronnie is survived by his daughters, Lori (Cooper) and Troy Holland, and Sarah (Cooper) and Eric Claywell; his grandchildren, Lainie (Holland) and Noah Adams, Luke Holland, Landon Holland, Grady Claywell, Kynsi Claywell, and Emmie Claywell; his sister, Barbara (Cooper) and Russell Fort; sister-in-law, Joyce (Thalmann) Cooper; sister-in-law, Harriet (Diamond) Cooper; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Brenda Bryan and his dog, Sammie. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Cooper; sister, Norma (Cooper) Campbell; brother, Norman Cooper and his wife Deborah (Watson) Cooper; and niece Renee (Fort) Wiltfong. Brian Lee Lidgard, 63, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on December 1, 2023. Brian was born on December 25, 1959 in La Porte,IN to Richard and Alice (O'Krey) Lidgard. On April 19, 1980 at St. John's Lutheran Church in La Porte, IN, he married Christine Hagenow who survives. Also surviving are his 3 sons, Ryan (Allie) Lidgard of St. Petersburg, FL, Adam (Callie) Lidgard of La Porte, and Aaron (Mandi) Lidgard of Valparaiso; grandchildren, Camden and Raiden Lidgard of La Porte, Drake, Tanner and Bryce Lidgard of La Porte, and his only granddaughter, Bradley Lidgard of Valparaiso; 2 sisters, Brenda Riley and Tammy Lidgard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Brian worked as a shipping and receiving manager at American Renolit Corporation for 45 years. He volunteered as a Center Township firefighter, a first responder, and as a Red Cross CPR and first aid instructor for many years. Brian's greatest passion in life was his involvement in the Pop Warner Program. He was the President of La Porte Pop Warner for 16 years and also the League President for Northern Indiana. For many years he coached football, but most recently he served on the Regional Management Board Member of Mid-America Pop Warner. Brian enjoyed numerous activities such as coaching baseball, fishing, snowmobiling, and off roading. He also enjoyed working on small motors, bowling, playing darts, and racing in the Demolition Derby. Since he was born on Christmas day, he loved celebrating Christmas. He collected Christmas memorabilia and dreamnt of opening his own Christmas shop when he retired. Above all else, Brian adored his family and especially his grandkids. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Ron Brauer officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 2 - 6 pm on Sunday, and from 10 am until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Van Herold Willis, 84, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Van was born on July 19, 1939, in Bryson City, North Carolina to the late Reverend Garland and Rita Willis. Van retired from the Local #172 Plumbers, Pipefitters, and HVAC Union after many years of service. He served his country in the United States Army. On August 18, 1973, Van married Sandra Nelson who survives with children, Sherry (Brad) Hunt of La Porte, Darold (Joy) Willis of Walkerton, Indiana, Stanley (Holly) Willis of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; a step daughter, Cindy (Steve) Gazarkiewicz of La Porte; grandchildren, Tamra, Durelle, Tara, Tyler, Shawna, Sarah, Brandon, Bryan, Jacob, Katie and Rob; great grandchildren, Anaya, Alisa, Parker, Madelyn, Morgan, Rowan, Austin, Dallas, Molly, Devan, Brody and Piper; and sisters, Jewel, Eva, Clover, Marie, Clara, and Vergie. Cheryl May Williams, 71, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on November 29, 2023 at Tanya's Helping Home, Valparaiso. Cheryl was born on December 15, 1951 in La Porte, IN to John and Phyllis (Kirkham) Richardson. On May 10, 1997, in La Porte, IN, she married Roger James Williams, who preceded her in death. Surviving Cheryl are her 2 children, Heather Pina of Goshen and Jason Smyers of La Porte; special "second daughter", Stephanie Wiltfong; 16 grandchildren, Jazlyn (Makayla), Marcos, Chebo, Jose, Johnathan (Tessa), Ricardo, Jordan, Jayden, Justin, Jensen, Faith, Bella, Jackson, and Jace, with Jayden being raised like a son; 2 great-grandchildren, Johnathan Jr. and Layla; 4 sisters; 2 brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Phyllis Richardson; husband, Roger Williams; daughter, Traci Smyers; and 2 grandchildren, Hunter and Stacey. Cheryl enjoyed her work at Suds on State Laundromat, where she was able to interact with and assist the community. In her free time, she enjoyed plastic canvas crafting, painting her nails, and viewing Hallmark Christmas movies year round. Cheryl loved the Christmas season and all that came with the holiday. She will be very fondly remembered by her family for her love of ice cream, particularly strawberry shortcake!
