Gary Lee Mull, age 54 of Elberton, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024.He was born September 25, 1969 in Habersham County to the late Howard Mull and Shirley Joyce (Justice) Mull. Gary volunteered at Wal-Mart as a greeter and would help stock shelves. Besides Jesus, Randy Travis was his hero. He was an avid Randy Travis fan and would sing the song, I Told You So. Gary was a believer in Jesus Christ and would never hesitate to take a moment to tell you about the Lord and pray with you. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Michael Mull, Jay Mull (Connie), Wanda Hunter and Kevin Mull (Misty); seven nieces and seven nephews and his caretaker, Kiana Crumbley.Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 16th, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Myra Faye Dixon McCannon, 84, of Petersburg Road, Elberton, GA passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.Mrs. McCannon was born October 17, 1939, in Elberton, GA to John C. Dixon and Jamie Lee Mauldin Dixon. She was a member of Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired from the U.S. Army National Guard after 24 1/2 years of dedication and service.She is survived by her sister, Mabel Payton of Elberton, GA; sister-in-law, Norma Dixon of Elberton, GA; one daughter-in-law; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis McCannon; sons: Eddy Higginbotham and Eric Higginbotham; and brother, Col. Charles L. Dixon.Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 11AM, Thursday, February 15, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Dunaway officiating. Mrs. Willie ‘Kay’ Saxon Hufstetler, 73, of Sutton Way, Elberton, wife of 48 years to the late Robert Loy Hufstetler, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at her sister’s residence following a brief battle with cancer.Kay was born in Elberton on June 12, 1950, the youngest of six children of John Archie "Buster" Saxon and Emma Lucille Dixon Saxon. She was a 1968 graduate of Elbert County High School who enjoyed being with her classmates and was instrumental in organizing the 50th class reunion.Kay spent her working career in retail, most notably at Eckerd and Wal-Mart. She was a lifelong member of Eliam United Methodist Church. Kay never missed an opportunity to send those she loved a greeting card or to stop and chat with anyone she met.Surviving are her son, Matthew Robert Hufstetler of Elberton; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine "Sis" and Wayne Smith of Elberton; sister-in-law, Pat Saxon of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.Along with her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Charles Saxon, Ralph Warren "Tiny" Saxon, Harry Wayne "Bo" Saxon, and Ann Saxon.The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.Funeral services celebrating Kay’s life will be conducted on Friday, February 16, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Virginia Best and Wes Privett officiating. Mrs. Barbara Sue Brock Mitchell, 84, of Deer Lane, Elberton, GA, wife of 61 years to John Wiley Mitchell, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, peacefully at her residence. Barbara was born on January 12, 1940, in Whitmire, SC, the 10th of 14 children born to George Dewey and Lucille Bridges Brock. She married John Wiley Mitchell on May 9, 1962, in Whitmire. She worked as a teller at Pinnacle Bank in Elberton and later worked alongside her family at their company, Spartan Tool Company. Barbara was a member of Rock Branch Baptist Church. Barbara is survived by her husband, John Mitchell; four sons and their spouses: Johnny and Lisa Mitchell of Elberton, Billy and Wanda Mitchell of Elberton, Brock and Amber Mitchell of Commerce, TX, and Ray and Hannah Mitchell of Comer; brother, Melvin Brock of Easley, SC; sisters: Willie Miller, Grace Bradley, Linda Brock, and Jean Alewine, all of Whitmire, and Anne Smith of Easley, SC; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her siblings: Larry, Don, George, David, Jack, Jane, and Myrtle. In accordance to Barbara's wishes, a private memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Kirby Tyler, Jr.

Mr. Kirby Tyler, Jr. passed away at home in Elberton, Georgia on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the age of 89. Kirby was born in Florence, South Carolina on May 9, 1934, son of Kirby Tyler, Sr. and Gladys Blakewood Tyler. His family moved to Savannah, Georgia when he was a young boy where he had many friends, celebrated the end of WWII with a parade in the streets, and served as an altar boy at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Kirby graduated from Savannah High School and then furthered his education at the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Kirby graduated from UGA with a degree in Business Administration. Kirby later furthered his education at Louisiana State University (LSU) Banking School. He was proud of his service in the Naval Reserves, serving in Cuba during the late 1950s. Kirby returned to Savannah after college and began a banking career at C&S Bank on Bull Street. It was at C & S that he met the love of his life, Carolyn Lanier. They married in July 1960 and had 63 years of love, laughs, and a true partnership that was evident to all who knew them. Kirby’s banking career took him from C & S Bank in Savannah to Farmers Bank in Monroe, Georgia and then to Elberton where he was Senior Vice President of Granite City Bank, which later became Regions Bank. After retiring from Regions, he joined Elberton Federal Savings and Loan where he truly enjoyed serving the community he loved. Kirby retired from Elberton Federal in 2010. He was very community minded and took pride in his involvement in Elbert County. Kirby was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was involved in various leadership roles at the Elbert Memorial Hospital, Elbert County Chamber of Commerce, Elbert County Library, Elbert County Housing Authority, First United Methodist Church (trustee, finance chairman, Mary Freeman Sunday school class), Elberton Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), Athens Touchdown Club, and the Elbert County Bulldog Club. Kirby loved his family - daughter Lynsley Anne Tyler was born in 1962 followed by son Michael Kirby Tyler in 1965. Family trips to UGA football games were always planned each fall as were family oyster roasts at the coast. The family grew with the addition of Melissa Tyler in 2002 and granddaughter Amelia Tyler in 2004. He is preceded in death by his son Michael and his daughter-in-law Melissa. Kirby is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Lanier Tyler; his daughter, Lynsley; his granddaughter, Amelia; special friends and caregivers: Jewell Glaze and Rochelle Rucker; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Tyler will lie instate at Berry Funeral Home, 1265 Washington Highway, Elberton, Georgia 30635, on Monday, February 19, from 10:00a.m. until 2:00p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook. Graveside services celebrating Kirby’s life will be conducted at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, 1600 Wheaton Street, Savannah, Georgia 31404, on Tuesday, February 20, at 11:00a.m. with the Rev. Jim McCollough officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include Neil Summerlin, Eric Brewton, Ken Taylor, Matt Osbourne, Michael McGarity, and Randy Lanier. Carl Ann Pass Ouzts, 86, of 1192 Country Club Road, Elberton, departed this life on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at her residence after a long illness.Born in the Millstone Creek Community of Oglethorpe County on April 3, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Walter Carl "Bunkin" Pass and Lena Agnes Smith Pass. She was a graduate of Oglethorpe County High School. In 1958, Carl Ann married Ronald Claybourn Ouzts of Elbert County and they had two sons: Karl Claybourne and Richard Daniel.Carl Ann worked for several years at the Elbert Memorial Hospital as a receptionist until her retirement just over a decade ago. She accepted Christ early in life and most recently attended Vesta Baptist Church until the onset of her illness.Surviving are her two sons and Daniel’s wife, Michelle. She had eight grandchildren: Landon, Marla, Forbes, Camille, Addison, Graham, Makenzie, and Gabe; and two great-grandchildren: Barrett and Knox.She was greatly loved by her family who will miss her forever until we are all reunited in heavenly paradise.The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23, from 1:00-1:45p.m. at Vesta Baptist Church.Funeral services will follow at 2:00p.m. at Vesta Baptist Church with burial in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Rev. Henry Franklin "Frank" Sorrow, age 82, died peacefully on February 21, 2024, after a brief hospital stay.Frank was born on December 31, 1941, at home in the Glade Community of Oglethorpe County, GA. His parents were William Thomas "Tom" and Annie Louise Arnold Sorrow, also of Oglethorpe County. He had one sister, Patricia Sorrow Glenn of Carlton, GA. Frank graduated from Oglethorpe County High School in 1959.Frank had many hobbies. He loved music and was once in a band called "Frank Sorrow and the Echoes". He was also an avid CB and ham radio user.Frank was faced with many physical issues, and he did his best to overcome them and live a full life. One of his caregivers, Mary Collins, grew to be one of his closest friends.Survivors include his sister, Patricia Sorrow Glenn of Carlton, GA; one nephew, Kenneth Martin Glenn; and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Annie Sorrow of the Glade Community, of Oglethorpe County GA.A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 2:00p.m. at the Glade Methodist Church cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his parents. The Rev.
