She attended Carrollton City Schools class of 1960, Hinds Junior College in Raymond, Mississippi, Universal Airlines School in Ft. Worth, Texas and graduated from Greenleaf Business College in Atlanta. During her working career, she worked for United Mine Workers of America, District 50 and retired from the Department of Urban Development where she managed foreclosures. Ms. Lancaster was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.Survivor include her son and daughter-in-law, Chris & Amy Lancaster; grandchildren, Kaila Diane Lancaster, Klemson Denise (Caige) Plsek, Haley Reese (Mason) Browning; sister, Carol Crow Kitchens; and the father of her son, Jerry Lancaster. Dr. Joseph Harrison McCraw, a military veteran, former Auburn University football running back, a long-time accounting professor at the University of West Georgia and a proud father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024 in Carrollton, Georgia.Born in Andalusia, Alabama, in March 1945, McCraw received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Auburn University and his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Georgia. While at Auburn, McCraw was a freshman fullback under the legendary coach, Vince Dooley and continued to contribute to the football program as an offensive and defensive player for three more years. McCraw is a much-decorated veteran. Upon graduation from Auburn University in 1967 with an ROTC Commission, he served a two-year stint in the U.S. Army. After being assigned to the 988th Military Police Company at Ft. Benning, Columbus, Georgia, he volunteered for Vietnam (1968) where he spent almost one year in service to his country.Returning to civilian life, Dr. McCraw earned an MBA from Auburn University in 1978 and a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Georgia in 1986. Having taught at the University of Alabama, Birmingham and Presbyterian College, Harrison began a 26-year career at UWG (then West Georgia College) in 1985 as an assistant professor of Business Administration in the Department of Accounting and Finance. Throughout his career, McCraw wrote numerous articles published in scholarly journals before retiring from the University of West Georgia (UWG) in 2011. Dr. Faye McIntyre, professor of marketing and former dean of the Richards College of Business, praised McCraw for his kindness, intelligence and generosity. “Dr. McCraw was a valuable member of the Richards College of Business faculty. He was an excellent instructor and mentored many students outside the classroom as well. Beyond his teaching abilities, Harrison was a wonderful colleague, always willing to help others and offer a kind word of encouragement or humor.” One of his favorite activities in his later years of retirement was to have his daily breakfast at the Waffle House near the UWG campus.He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Harrison McCraw Sr., his mother, Mary Elizabeth Pruitt and his sister, Mary Anne Cowham. He is survived by his son, Joseph Harrison McCraw III and his granddaughter, Penelope Kate McCraw. Harrison was a man of deep faith and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Carrollton. Dr. Stephen V. Allen will preside at a memorial service for Harrison to be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 5 at 4pm. Dr. McCraw’s ashes will be in interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Linda Wright Lester, 73, of Carrollton, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 24, 1950, at Tanner Hospital in Carrollton, the daughter of the late William “Bill” Martin Wright and Ruth Elizabeth “Libby” Richards Wright.Linda grew up in Tallapoosa and graduated from Villa Rica High School, where she was an exceptional student and earned all A’s. On June 1, 1968, in a candlelight service, Linda married the love of her life, Roger Steve Lester. Linda and Steve built a beautiful life together and supported each other every step of the way. On September 6, 1991, Linda opened the Shepherd’s Corner Christian Bookstore, which she managed for over 30 years.The Lester family were West Carrollton Baptist Church members for nearly 30 years. Mrs. Linda taught Sunday School for many years. She wasn’t just a teacher; she became a true sister in Christ and walked beside her Sunday School Class members. More recently, the family has been faithful members of Roopville Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Linda was the embodiment of a true people person and was a natural caregiver. During the last months of her life, while living at The Oaks, she would greet other residents with a simple “I Love You!” She had a true love of people her entire life. She will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Steve Lester; children Scott & Becky Lester, Keith Lester, and Tammy & Jared Page; grandchildren, Kristen Lester, Scott Lester Jr., Mary Grace Lester, Jacob Lester, Caleb Page, Abbie Page, Megan Page, and Evan Lester; greatgrandchild, Oakleigh Lester; sisters, Teresa Ann Wright Buchanan Garrett, Marilyn Sue Abercrombie Driver, and Deborah Robinson Harris; brothers & sisters-in-law, Steve & Elaine Wright and Richard Henry & Rhonda Wright.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ruby Louise Moore Richards & Oliver Richards, and paternal grandparents, Eva Eunice Jackson Wright & Willis Martin Wright.A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Mrs. Linda’s life on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Dr. Stephen Peeples officiating. Dick J. Bryant

Dick J. Bryant, 93, went to his heavenly home February 17, 2024. Mr. Bryant was a lifelong resident of Georgia, residing in Crawford County until 2019. He was educated in the Crawford County public school system and later attended the University of Georgia School of Forestry. After leaving UGA, he was employed by Jefferys McElrath Lumber Company and Macon Pulpwood Company, Inc., both in Macon, GA. He was co-founder and president of B&B Pulpwood Co., Inc., which he operated for 35 years. He was proud to be an Army Veteran and served as Corporal in the U.S. Army Med Corps during the Korean War. He was a medic with the 7th Evac. Hospital in Germany. Dick was very active in his community, including serving on the Crawford County Board of Education and eight years as County Commissioner, representing the Roberta/Knoxville districts. He was Chairman of the Crawford County Little League during the building of Wallace Field, under the tutelage of Mr. Ernest Wallace, and coached the first Little League baseball team in Crawford County. As a member of Roberta Baptist Church, he served as deacon, deacon chairman, Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and in many other capacities. Dick was a member of the Blinded Veterans Association, Macon Chapter, and the American Legion Post 230, Roberta, GA. An avid woodsman and gardener, Dick loved the outdoors and nature. There was nothing he liked better than cruising a tract of timber for its volume and value or seeking out a centuries-old land line. He liked working with flowers and enjoyed the beauty they brought to his home and yard. Dick was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Macy Murphey Bryant, his son, Timothy Neal Bryant, Sr., his mother, Gertrude “Kitty” Bryant, and his brother, Calvin C. Bryant. He is survived by his daughter, Lori Payne (Greg) of Carrollton, GA; five grandchildren, including Shawn Bryant (Veronica) of Senoia, GA, Timothy Bryant, Jr. (Jenna) of Adairsville, GA, Rebecca Powers (Bryn) of Carrollton, GA, Rachel Bowie (John Mark) of Auburn, AL, and Eli Payne (Meg) of Colbert, GA. He was proud to be great-grandfather to Yamilex Ramirez, Briana Bryant, Lane Bowie, Rylie Payne, Madison Bowie, Bowen Bryant, Jack Bryant, Jacob Bryant, Ada Jo Bowie, and Harrison Powers. Two great-great-grandchildren, Alilet and Emilio Mares, were also loved by their PaPa. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Betty Hannon, Fort Valley, GA; first cousin Mable McKinley, Perry, GA; several cousins; and a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. After the death of Macy, in 2019, Dick moved to The Stewart House Retirement Living in Carrollton, GA, where he spent his remaining years. Here he found new friends and a loving community. He was quite the jokester, and loved telling others that he was the Mayor at The Stewart House. He was grateful for the caring staff, past and present, whom he loved and considered family.
