Virginia was baptized at and a member of the Toledo Baptist Church. Virginia worked at many local factories throughout her working career and retired from RR Donnelley in Mattoon, IL in June of 1986. She was always available to help the family with any problem they needed solved. She was an expert in removing impossible stains on clothes or fixing and mending tears. She could transform badly ripped blue jeans into designer quality fashion in the blink of an eye. Virginia learned the art of piecing and quilting from her mother and passed that love on to her daughter and granddaughters. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens often. She took pleasure in working with the children at her church. She would spend summers working at church camp and helping with vacation bible school. Virginia was a wonderful cook and had a great liking for trying new recipes on her family. One in particular they vetoed was macaroni and cheese with apples. She couldn't understand why they all thought it was AWFUL!! Every New Year's Day she would invite everyone to her house for lunch. It was her desire for all her kids to be prosperous for the next year and insisted they eat black eyed peas, cooked cabbage, and soup beans. Luckily, she would be satisfied with only one bite. She had a passion for jigsaw puzzles. They provided her with many hours of enjoyment while she resided at the Health Care Center. She was also a vicious domino player, and her rules were the rules of the table. If caught testing her rules, it wasn't unusual to feel a thrown domino whip past your head. Anyone who met Virginia felt her warmth and compassion. Her family and friends will always treasure how special she was to each of them. Funeral services will be Monday June 12, 2023, at 10:00 a. m. with visitation on Sunday June 11, 2023, from 5 to 7 p. m. at the Salem United Methodist Church in Toledo, IL.
