November 8, 2023
In loving memory of Larry Keith Caldwell, 75, who passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. Larry was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Irwin. He was child No. 7 of 12 to the late Paul and Mildred (Exton) Caldwell. Larry worked as a piledriver with the Piledrivers Local Union No. 2264 Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War; a member and chaplain of the Jeannette Combined Veterans Honor Guard and Jeannette Legion Post 344; the current deputy commander for the American Legion, 31st district; and a member of the Jeannette VFW Post 8240. He was preceded in death by his siblings, George (Shirley), Ken (survived by Phyllis) and John (Eary) Caldwell and Patricia (Smitty) Smith. He married Dorothy Marie Caldwell in 1978. They both live on in the hearts of their three children, Gregory Caldwell (Alison Bresnahan), of Pittsburgh, Trisha Brunazzi (Terry), of Greensburg, and Shelly Vaughn (Robert), of Munroe Falls, Ohio. He was the proud "Papa" to his grandchildren, Nico, Mayla and Talia Brunazzi and Olivia and Liana Vaughn; and the beloved "Uncle Larry" to many nieces, nephews and relatives. Larry is survived by his other siblings, Pauline Klingensmith, Roy Caldwell (Helen), Dolly Kelly (Bruce), Dave Caldwell, Marion Parker (Larry), Cindy Caldwell and Brian Caldwell. Larry loved life. He loved seeing joy in others. He loved poetry, Hemingway, philosophy and a comforting cup of hot water and honey. He loved so easily, never missing an opportunity to tell someone how proud he was or to thank someone for what they do. He lived for the simple moments, enjoying catching baseball, rope swings and slow dancing in the living room with his daughters. He made a difference in every life he met with his sentimental thoughts, contemplative questions and genuine kindness. He was a true friend to a lifetime of people. In his army shoes, he stood with honor and a heavy heart for others. In his work boots, he worked with purpose and persistence. In his grandson's shoes, he shuffled along as he delivered Meals on Wheels, watched tournaments and recitals, taught grandkids to drive and took them on adventures with friends. In his slippers, he sat quietly with simplicity, love and a grateful heart since he was such a "fortunate man. " Larry could tell time with the sun and read a map in the stars. He's in every sunset and in the sea. His heart was full, and now it can rest. "Fair winds and blue skies. " Family and friends will be received for memorial visitation from 4 to 7 p. m.
