Born on June 1, 1948, in Langdale, Alabama, she was a lantern of love and joy throughout her life. Martha's final days were spent surrounded by the warmth of her family in Shawmut, Alabama, where she concluded a life well-lived. Martha's early years in Shawmut were filled with the simple pleasures of small-town life, which she carried with her as cherished memories. She was a source of strength and boundless love for her children, Randall Hunt, Mary Jean Hunt, Theresa Nix (married to Chuck), and Amanda Johns. Her sister, Danna Decker and Kathy Williams, who was more like a sister than a sister-in-law, also held a special place in her heart. Martha's legacy extends to her 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who felt her nurturing presence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas (Mutt) Williams and Gleamer Baty Williams, her sister, Ann Bellflower and her brother, Gene Williams, her husbands, Billy Joe Hunt and Robert Johns, five children, Tony, Ricky, Lisa, Robbie and Gina Johns. Throughout her working years, Martha was a dedicated employee in the textile industry. She contributed her talents to all the local mills, including Shawmut Mill, Fairfax Mill, Riverview Mill, and finally, Fairview Mill, before she retired. Her work ethic and camaraderie with her colleagues were a testament to her character. A member of Midway Baptist Church, Martha's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She established her membership at Midway Baptist Church in her younger years. She lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and an unwavering commitment to her community. Her spiritual devotion was evident in her everyday actions and the guidance she provided to those around her. Martha's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She found joy in crocheting, ceramics, plastic canvas, and losing herself in a good book. An avid fisherwoman, she cherished the times spent by the water's edge, rod in hand, with the tranquility of nature as her companion. Her competitive spirit and love for laughter often came alive during family board game nights, which are fondly remembered as times of pure happiness and connection. Those who knew Martha would describe her as loving, spirited, and selfless. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and valued. It was a gift that made her presence a comfort and a blessing. Mr. Ernest Anthony McLeroy (78) of Valley, AL passed away peacefully at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL on November 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Ernest was born to Barnard (Mac) and Dorothy (Dot) McLeroy in LaGrange, GA on November 17, 1945. He grew up in the Louise community where he made life-long friends. Ernest graduated from Troup County High School in LaGrange. Ernest proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from May 1966- March 1970. He was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa County, FL. As a technical sergeant, he specialized in helicopter electronics and navigation systems. Ernest earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from LaGrange College and a master's degree in computer science from Auburn University. He spent most of his professional career as a computer programmer for WestPoint Stevens, which is where he met his wife, Faye. Ernest was known for his intellectual aptitude and wit. He excelled at any subject in which he had interest. He was an avid reader of fiction and non-fiction alike, with a particular passion for westerns and history. Inspired by his Cherokee ancestry, he developed a deep adoration and exploration of Native American culture. Ernest was also a gifted artist. He expressed his artistic skills through paintings, carved gourds, leatherwork, and any type of woodwork you could imagine. His musical talents included playing the guitar, piano, and harmonica. He became a student and practitioner of martial arts later in life, earning a brown belt in karate. Ernest is survived by his wife Faye McLeroy; brother Tommy (Susie) McLeroy; sons Gregg (Beth) McLeroy and Chris Ogle; daughters Stacey (David) Wiggins, Angelia Ogle Weldon, and Kathy Ogle Hornsby; grandsons Griffin McLeroy, River Weldon, Ashton Weldon, and Hunter Hornsby; granddaughters Morgan (AJ) Riffe, Raya McLeroy, and Lindsey (Logan) Clifton; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Cindy McLeroy Cofield. Otis Anthony "Tony" Cole, a man of deep faith, love, and humor, was called home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2023. Born on February 3, 1948, in Langdale, Alabama, Tony spent his life serving his family, his church, and his community with a heart full of love and a spirit of generosity. Tony was a devoted husband to his wife, Jeannette W. Cole, and a loving father to his children, Daniel Cole (Tammi), Carey Cole, Daniel Smith, Melissa Smith, Chuck Payne, and Jeanine Bell. He was a cherished brother to Alice Taylor, Annette Mayberry, and Scotty Cole. His legacy will continue to live on through his 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Annette Mayberry, Bonnie Domangue and her husband, Dale Domangue, Jewell Bell, former wife, and his brother-in-law, Donald Taylor. Tony served his country with honor and distinction in the Army National Guard for six years. Tony worked for West Point Pepperrell where he maintained the looms and other mechanical parts with a craftsman's precision and a worker's pride. The majority of his career and his subsequent retirement was spent working for the Trinidad Benham Corporation in LaGrange, Georgia. A man of many passions, Tony loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher and was honored as "Man of the Year" for his unwavering commitment and service. His love for the Lord was matched only by his love for his family and his church family. Tony was a man of intellect and curiosity. He was an ardent collector of coins and different currencies, always eager to share his latest find or historical tidbit. His love for the University of Alabama football program was legendary, and he was a master at team stats. Tony was a voracious reader, with a particular fondness for history and the Bible. He was also an avid fisherman, finding peace and solace in the quiet moments by the water. Tony was a beacon of light in this world, radiating love, faith, and humor in all he did. His laughter was infectious, his wisdom profound, and his love boundless. He was a very Godly man, who loved the Bible, loved history, loved to read, and loved fishing. His life was a testament to his faith, his love for his family, and his commitment to his community. In the words of the great preacher Charles Spurgeon, "To be with Christ is far better. " Tony is now with Christ, and while we will miss him dearly, we rejoice in knowing that he is at peace, basking in the glory of our Lord. Jones and Judith Ann Raby. She was the cherished sister of Danny Jones, Wendy Danford (Tony), and Angel White (Anthony). She was also a dear niece to her aunt, Ethelda Fuller. She was a respected daughter-in-law to Sheila Bass and Billy Williams (Charlotte), and a cherished sister-in-law to Wendy Sapp. Christy's love extended to a host of other family members who will remember her fondly. Mrs. Ina Dawson Hollstein, of Valley, Alabama, passed away on November 11, 2023. Mrs. Hollstein was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 16, 1941, to the late William M. Dawson, Sr. , and Sara Johnson Dawson. Ina attended Phillips High School ('58) in Birmingham and the University of Alabama. She married George Allen Hollstein, August 13, 1960. Ina and Allen moved their family to Mobile, Alabama in 1967. Ina was very loving to her children, husband, and grandchildren. She was in the workforce for a brief period of time but mostly enjoyed being able to stay home so she could take her children to after-school activities, volunteer, and attend her children's school functions and activities. Being so family-oriented, Ina loved keeping her grandchildren when they were very young. Ina was active in her church and enjoyed volunteering. Even later in life, when her own health was poor at times, she would rally back to good health because she wanted to be sure that her husband was being taken care of. Such love and devotion. Mrs. Hollstein is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Allen Hollstein; her children, Len Harry Hollstein (Debi) and Ruth Hollstein Cochran (Matt); her brother, William M. Dawson, Jr. (Martha); her grandchildren, Connor Leath Cochran, Dakota Allen Hollstein, and Caylee Hollstein Tapio (Micah).
