Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Barbara Ellen Wilkerson, age, 83, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Sunday September 10, 2023. Mrs. Wilkerson was born in Atlanta, Georgia the daughter to the late Stanley Seaborn Howle and Mary Lewis Lockridge Howle. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by two brothers, Stanley Howle and Joseph Howle. Mrs. Wilkerson graduated from Roosevelt High School Class of 1958, Atlanta, GA, studied nursing at Georgia State University, receiving her RN degree. Worked as a Biological Lab Technician at the CDC, former RN at St. Mary's Hospice House, former registered nurse at Bine Pines VA Hospital and Atlanta VA Hospital and a Pediactric Nurse at Scottish Rite. Recieved a Certificate of Retirement after twenty-one years with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mrs. Wilkerson was baptized twice, once in 1975 at Rehobath Baptist Church, Tucker, GA and in the Jordan River in 1996. She is a member of Jackson County Baptist Church, Jefferson, loved reading her bible and different biographies and loved to travel. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Garmon (Mike) of Jefferson, GA. Two sons, Robert F. Cox Jr. of Grayson, GA and Jason Rancke (Kristin) of St. Petersburg, FL. Five grandchildren, Robet F. "Trey" Cox III of Flowery Branch, Ga, Ashley Garmon of Commerce, GA, Amy Garmon of Jefferson, GA, Ryan Rancke and Landon Rancke of St. Petersburg, FL. Two nieces, Crystal Nuss and Andrea Lovern and one nephew, Tim Howle. Funeral service will be held 2:00 P. M. Wednesday September 13, 2023 at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Lawson officiating. Burial with follow at Evans Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 noon until time of service at 2 P. M. at Evans Funeral Home. Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. David Ray Hurst, age 82, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Mr. Hurst was born in Augusta, Georgia, a son to the late Bryant Raymond Hurst and the late Lessie Viola Tidwell Hurst. Mr. Hurst attended Georgia Tech and worked as a chemist. He began his career at The Georgia Tech Experiment Station and later had his own chemical consulting business, Hurst Research. He was a man of deep faith and now his faith has become sight. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hurst was preceded in death by his son in law, Bill Wilson, and his sister, Jeanne Shanks. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Williams Hurst of Jefferson; daughter, Kimberly Hurst Wilson of Lawrenceville; son, Dow Preston Hurst and his wife Teresa of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Amber Rikard and her husband Seth of East Point, GA and Bonnie Willoughby and her husband Joel of Auburn, GA; and five great grandchildren, Rose Willoughby, Joellen Willoughby, Annie Willoughby, Peter Rikard and David Rikard. Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Ms. Kathy Lynne Smith Barron, age 62 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Sunday, November 26, 2023. Ms. Barron was born in Knoxville, Tennessee a daughter of the late William Doyle Smith and the late Kathleen Early Smith, was a Managed Care Team Lead with Northeast Georgia Medical Center and was a member of Homer Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Ms. Barron is preceded by a sister, Babs Smith. Kathy enjoyed spending time on her back porch chatting and gossiping with her sister and lifelong friends. While relaxing on her porch, Kathy would often be seen reading books, her daily devotionals and scripture. Kathy was known to host family gatherings as she carried on the family tradition of preparing delicious food with recipes that had been passed down for generations. She was an Oma to all. Above all, Kathy loved Jesus, her family, Diet Coke, and coffee. Kathy was most proud of her children, Molly and Drew, as they love as deeply and freely as Kathy loved others. Kathy adored her grandchildren and her great-nieces and nephews to the moon and back. She cheered the loudest at Logan's football and basketball games, she cherished her shopping adventures with Nina, and she would play for hours on the floor with baby Cam. Survivors include a daughter Molly Edmunds (Brett) of Jefferson, son, Drew Barron (Sami) of Lebanon, Tennessee. Father of her children, Grant Barron of Gallatin, Tennessee. Three grandchildren, Logan Edmunds, Nina Edmunds and Cam Barron. Sister, Debbie Smith Loftice of Jefferson, beloved pet, "lil' beetch" Ginger. Niece, Kristi Johnson (Jason) of Jefferson, nephew, Jeremy Loftice (Abbie) of Bogart. Brother-in-law, Jerry Loftice of Knoxville, Tennessee. Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Dwight Randall Strickland, age 75 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Thursday, November 23, 2023. Mr. Strickland was born in Jefferson, Georgia a son of the late William Dewey Strickland and the late Reutrell Baxter Strickland. Mr. Strickland received a Bachelors Degree from Arlington Baptist College, was a Private Security Officer, a Veteran of the U. S. Navy, a Missionary to the Philippines, and a member of Brockton Road Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Strickland is preceded by brothers, William, Donald, Dwayne, Daniel, Roger, and David. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty seven years, Delia Ramirez Strickland of Jefferson. Daughters, Monica Rutriel Ogletree and Gail Lynn Motes (Chris) of Jefferson. Son, Jonathan Andrew Strickland (Amber) of Jefferson. Sisters, Patricia Warren of Charleston, South Carolina, Peggy Cheryl Usry of Winder, and Faye Swain of Jefferson. Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Sara Lois Smallwood Brookshire, age 88, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Mrs. Brookshire was born in Commerce, Georgia, a daughter to the late Lloyd and Agnes Medley Smallwood. Mrs. Brookshire was of the Holiness Faith and attended the Jefferson Church with the late Reverend Dennis Kesler. Mrs. Brookshire was retired from the Commerce Police Department where she worked as a dispatcher. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brookshire was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Ernest Leonard "Smokey" Brookshire, son, David Brookshire, son and daughter in law, Wade and Kim Brookshire and sister, Lillian Fowler. Survivors include her sons, Norman Brookshire and his wife Kathy of Commerce, Duane Brookshire and his wife Helen of Jackson; sister Patsy Love of Jefferson; daughter in law, Barbara Brookshire, Pendergrass, special friends Steve and Paulette Thompson of Jefferson; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren also survive. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Clarke Kesler officiating. The burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery with Steve Thompson, Zach Eubanks, Barry Brookshire, Dennis Brookshire, Andrew Brookshire, Chad Ashe, Blake Brookshire and Dale Dillow honored as pallbearers. Mrs. Sara Brookshire was a loving wife, mother and faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She also had a love of flowers and could make any garden grow beautifully. Sara had an eye for God's beauty and is now able to walk the streets of gold and enjoy the most cherished flower gardens of all.
