Barbara L. Trader, age 76, of Cumberland, Ohio, died Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. She was born August 10, 1947, in Evanston, Illinois, daughter of the late William A. and Frances H. Rowan. Barbara was a graduate of Washington Township High School in Washington Township, Pennsylvania. She was co-owner of Buffalo Fork Dog and Hunting Supply, and she also worked as a dietary and nurse's aide at nursing homes. Along with her family, she did drywall and painting. Barbara loved to write poetry, having some of her poems published. She also enjoyed drawing, crocheting, fishing and boating at Salt Fork Lake, and playing softball. She was devoted to her family and will be truly missed. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jaxson Alejandro. Surviving are her husband, Edward A. Trader, whom she married July 17, 1974; her children, Jenny L. (David) Lowther of Akron, Paula M. (Dale) Fawley of Cumberland, Arietta J. (Shawn) Paulus of Ravenna, Cherie A. (Christopher) Jenkins of Cumberland, Pamela J. Hopkins of Cambridge, and Debbie K. (Kevin) Brown of Akron; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria J. (Russell) Mundy of Leechburg, Pennsylvania; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends; and her beloved Labradoodle, Koda. Friends may call Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 1-4PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 4PM with Pastor John Powell officiating.

Melvin Lee Cassady, a cherished patriarch, friend, and decorated veteran, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Nov. 26, 2023, in Lawton at the age of 82. Born on May 12, 1941, in Zainesville, OH, to the late William Judson Cassady and Anna Irene (Bush) Cassady, Melvin's life was a tapestry of dedication, warmth, and wit. A graduate with a bachelor's degree in business, Melvin proudly served his country in the U. S. Army until his retirement. His commendable service was a testament to his steadfast patriotism and commitment to the values he held dear. Following his military career, Melvin's leadership skills and strategic insights were highly respected within the business community. Melvin's life was rich with the love of family, including his loving children Kenneth L. Cassady, Michael N. Cassady, Debbie M. Smith, Mike C. Linville and Robert H. Cullar. He was also the proud brother to Fred and Gary Cassady. His legacy further lives on through his adored grandchildren Amber N. Linville, Ian M. Vonschondorf, Zyzxca M. Reynolds, Mickie G. Cassady, Joseph M. Cassady, Anna M. Cassady, and great-grandchildren Jocelyn A. Suarez, Michael K. Cassady, and Alena J. Reynolds, Kayne Cullar, Silas Cullar and Kiyah Cullar plus a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. An intelligent, friendly, and funny man, Melvin's presence was a source of joy and laughter to all who knew him. He had a voracious appetite for reading, which was only matched by his love for traveling and exploring museums. His inquisitive nature led him to many adventures and his stories of these travels were always a delight to his family and friends. Melvin was a man who cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as visiting with friends and sharing a good joke. His sense of humor was infectious, and he had the unique ability to light up a room with his wit. Those who knew Melvin will remember his quick smile and the twinkle in his eye when he was about to tell a humorous tale. As we remember Melvin, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children. . . to leave the world a bit better. . . to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. " Melvin indeed succeeded, for he made countless lives breathe easier with his kindness and levity. Melvin's impact on the world was significant and enduring. His intelligence and humor were as much a part of him as his sense of duty and love for his family. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. As we bid farewell to Melvin Lee Cassady, let us carry forward the light he brought into this world, honoring his memory by living life with the same generosity of spirit and joy he exemplified. H. Dale Tom, 92 of Chandlersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the Genesis Hospice Morrison House surrounded by his loved ones. Dale was born on November 12, 1931, in Rix Mills, Ohio. He is the son of the late Roy and Lucy (Howard) Tom. Dale proudly served his country in the United States Army. After the military, Dale worked for and eventually retired from the Ohio Ferro Alloy after working for over thirty years. He was an avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed farming and playing euchre with his siblings. Dale's kind and hardworking spirit touched many lives and he will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind. Dale is survived by his daughter, Tawny Holdren of Chandlersville; his sons, Ronald (Kathleen) Tom of Dresden and Randall (Connie) Tom of Zanesville; his eight grandchildren, Chad (Hollie) Tom, Jamie (Jay Gooden) Phillips, Randy (Jenn) Kepler, Ryan (Candice) Kepler, Brittany (Travis) Shaw T. J. MaryAnn "Mam" Jirles age 60, of Cumberland, OH passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 6, 2023 at her home. She was born August 7, 1963 in Noble County, OH a daughter of the late Odgar and Mary C. Murphy Butler. She was a 1981 graduate of Shenandoah High School and attended the Mideast Career Center where she earned her LPN degree in nursing. As a nurse at the Red Carpet Healthcare/Astoria Place nursing home in Cambridge, OH for 27 years, she tended to the needs of numerous individuals with great compassion and dedication. MaryAnn was a familiar face to everyone in her white nurse's uniform, and her legacy as one of the most recognizable nurses at the facility will endure for years to come. She was an avid walker and loved to be outdoors enjoying the sunshine. MaryAnn loved her cats, reading books, and was passionate about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother Raymond Butler; three sisters Barbara Bates, Robin Dyer, and Rosemary. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband James M. Jirles whom she married November 17, 1984; children Heather (Randy) Gregg of Coal Ridge, Jamie (Chad) Johnson of Cambridge, Jessica (Jeff) Luke of Cambridge, Allan (Hannah) Bingham of Belle Valley, Michael Bingham of New York, Rachel Jirles of Senecaville, and many other bonus children; grandchildren and significant others Alexander Gregg, Emilee Gregg, Eli Gregg, Nicholas Gregg, Andrew Gregg, Emma Sills, Erika Luke, Kaitlyn Luke, Sadie Bingham, Michael Rhys Bingham, and Mailey Bickford; great-grandchildren Amara, Layla, Ellie, and Cohen; sister Nellie (Bill) Burch of Cambridge. Jerald Lee Maxwell, known as Jerry to many of his family and friends, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the age of 79. Jerry was born on March 12, 1944, in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of the late Virgil and Nellie (Shields) Maxwell and the oldest of seven children. After graduating from Maysville High School, in 1962, Jerry earned a solo-flight pilot's license following flying lessons. He voluntarily enlisted in the U. S. Army and served his Country during the Vietnam War, returning home after his honorable discharge. He joined his bride, Clara Rose (Whitmire) in holy matrimony, on April 18, 1969; together, they reared three daughters, Elizabeth (Clinton) Wright, Ruth (Cory) Damm, and Danielle (Timothy) Morgan. After trusting Jesus as his personal Savior through the ministry of Calvary Baptist Church and the witness of his future wife, Jerry and his family served Christ while attending Maranatha Bible Church and, later, as members of Westwood Baptist Church. In 2001, he retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass, of Newark, Ohio, after more than thirty-three years of employment. Although Jerry was a reserved and sensitive soul, he had a profound influence on all the lives he touched. Jerry is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Cathy (Mike) Shaeffer; and two brothers, Jay Maxwell and John (Mary Ann Petrosky) Maxwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years; his parents; one sister, Joyce Shaeffer; and two brothers, Jeffrey Maxwell and Joel Gregory Maxwell. Visitations will be 11 to 1 PM on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Farus Funeral Home, 383 Main Street, Duncan Falls, Ohio. Funeral services will be held 1 PM on Saturday. Pastor Steve Cheney will officiate the service. Jerry will be laid to rest beside his wife in Chandlersville Cemetery.
