"Ernest Shannon \u0026quot;Ernie\u0026quot; Thompson, Jr. , 89, of Huntington, formerly of Louisa, KY. , passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Woodlands Retirement Community. Ernie was born October 12, 1934 in Grassy WV, a son of the late Ernest S. Thompson, Sr. and Hazel Marie Buell. In addition to his parents, his Aunt Mary Richardson, and Uncle Curly Richardson, and a half-brother Paul Eddie Thompson also preceded him in death. He graduated from Marshall University where he was a lifelong fan. Ernie was the owner/operator of Ernies True Value Hardware in Louisa, KY. for 22 years. He was a member of First Methodist Church, Louisa. He attained his Eagle Scout Badge, was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Cherry River Navy. No one loved the outdoors more than Ernie. He loved to go boating, hunting in Canaan Valley and fall camping trips. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia Mae Ward Thompson; 3 children, Mari Elizabeth Glass (Danny) of Cartersville, GA;, Shannon Wesley Thompson (Beth) of Ohio and Rebecca Marie Davis (Fred) of Huntington; 5 grandchildren, Brea Jones, Dak Jones (Amy), Samantha Davis, Jacob Davis (Emily), Ginny Anne Noble (Brian); 3 great-grandchildren, Logan Sinkovich, Emilia Jones and Adah Davis, and another great-granddaughter on the way; 3 step-grandsons, Colton and Lucas Noble, and Jonah Wiley; a special brother-in-law and his wife Todd Ward (Carol); 3 half sisters, Betty Jean Holt, Nora Ann Evans and Debbie Evans; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday November 22, 2023 at Chapman\u0027s Mortuary, with Pastor Tammy Smith officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 pm to service time at the funeral home. Gay Hughes, 86 of Louisa, KY went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2023. She passed peacefully at her home while surrounded by all her loved ones. Gaynell was born August 10, 1937 in Columbus, OH to the late Harold and Thelma (Whaley) Daniel. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lawrence Hughes; their son Michael Keith Hughes; 2 brothers Fredrick "Fritz" Daniel and William "Bill" Daniel; and 1 granddaughter Shelby Hardin. She leaves behind 2 daughters; Sherri Hardin and Glenna Castle; 2 sisters Carol King and Judy McClasky; 11 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and so many more loved ones. Gaynell was known for her amazing home-cooked meals and smiling face at Betty's luncheon. She loves the Lord with her whole heart and was a walking testimony to everyone she came in contact with. She was a loving, helpful person, always available to lend a helping hand or offer a heartfelt hug. 2 Timothy 4: 7-8 embodies everything about our precious Gaynell. Jeffrey "Jeff" H. Dixon, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He was born on August 12, 1948 to the late Herman and Roberta Dixon. Jeff is preceded in death by his father, Herman Dixon; Mother, Roberta Dixon; Sisters, Marcella Dixon and Eleanor Skowronski. Jeff is survived by his wife, Ruth Sutlic; Daughter, Christie Dixon; Son, Jeffrey Dixon; Daughter, Breanne Whitmer; Grandchildren, Victoria Robinson-Dixon, Anthony Robinson-Dixon, and Lucia Dixon; Sisters Hermia Shifflette and Linda Beck; Brother, James "Jimmy" Dixon; and countless beloved nieces and nephews who adored Uncle Jeff. Jeff served in the Army from 1969 - 1971 and was stationed in Germany during that time. After his service, he studied computer programming at Columbus State Technical Institute and worked as a Computer Programmer for Sears & Roebuck, Gold Circle, and he most recently retired from Nationwide Insurance after 29 years working as a Systems Programmer. While working at Nationwide, Jeff met Ruth and they were married in November 2019. They loved to stay active and travel together, spend time with their dogs, and riding their electric bikes together often. He loved family history and was well known as our family's historian. He spent countless hours researching family names, finding obscure gravesites of our decedents, and keeping our family tree up to date. Jeff was most well known for being a family man. He loved spending time with his kids and adored his grandchildren. He also was very close with his extended family and loved spending time with his sisters, brother, and cousins. He most of all loved to joke around and make people laugh, he was well known for his dad jokes. Jeff was most well known for being a selfless man who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside Services and Interment to be held at Cyrus Family Cemetery in Louisa, KY on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11:00AM. Calvin "Sonny" Copley born on June 26, 1940 went to his heavenly home on November 22, 2023 with his loving wife Barbara Copley of 51 years by his side . Meeting him in Glory with his Savior Jesus is his daughter Rose Ann Bailey, brothers Gid, Buddy, Byrd, Henry and Oscar; sisters Gracie and Bertha; his parents Lutisha and Monroe Copley. Waiting to join him again on that reunion day is his wife Barb; daughters Susan (Jimmy) Rose of Fort Gay, WV and Dorrine (Dean) Trevault of Maricopa, AZ. A favorite granddaughter Megan (Mark) Parsons of Salt Rock, WV; grandsons Calvin "Scotty" Bailey of Russell, KY, Russal and Tomas Trevault of Maricopa, AZ. , one loving great grandson Briar Parsons and a special friend Elmo Canterbury. Sonny loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, and soul. Studying his bible every night, visiting inmates at the local jail for 27 years. He was a member of Fairmont United Baptist Church in Dunlow, WV. Sonny's joy of gardening, gospel music, his work shed, and outdoor Christmas lights showed that through his labors of love he wanted to share joy. He never met a stranger and was always laughing. We thank God for allowing us to love him and have been loved by him in return. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 28th at 11:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Salmons and Bro. Elmo Canterbury officiating.
