Barbara A. Symbol (nee: Hetrick) 85, of North Ridgeville went home to be with her Lord and Savior at O'Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville on Friday September 8, 2023. She was born November 23, 1937 in Ambridge, PA. Barbara and her husband owned and operated Symbol Greenhouse. She loved spending time with family and friends, she enjoyed socializing with customers in the greenhouse, and enjoyed travel, music, drawing and crafting. Barbara was a member of Faith Baptist Temple and The Daughters of The American Revolution. Survivors include her loving husband of sixty nine years; Adolph. Additional survivors include her daughters; Carol A. Holston (Ron) of Murfreesboro, TN. , Barb A. Hirt (Dave) of Perrysburg, OH. four grandchildren; Tamara Crase (Dave), Amanda Edwards (Jim), David Hirt (Lauren), Ben Hirt (Julie), and two great grandchildren; Zachary and Sarah Crase. Barbara was preceded in death by a son; Bill R. Symbol, her parents; Gilbert and Ethel (nee: Johnston) Hetrick, and two brothers; Vernon and John Hetrick. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM Friday September 15, 2023 at Faith Baptist Temple 34361 Lorain Rd. North Ridgeville, OH 44039 where funeral services will be at 10:30 AM immediately following visitation. Pastor James Barta will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon. Louis J. Van Houte, a longtime resident of Westlake, was promoted to glory on November 1, 2023. Lew was born on a farm in Sodus, New York on November 5, 1930 and graduated from Sodus High School as valedictorian of the class of 1948. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Syracuse University in 1952 and his MBA, also from Syracuse University, in 1960. Lew was a veteran and served in the US Army from 1952-1954, reaching the rank of sergeant. For many years, Lew worked as an accountant and controller. He was a member of Abram Creek Baptist Church in Brook Park and was formerly a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Cleveland where he served as a deacon. After retirement, he spent many hours volunteering with the ALS Association. Lew was an avid bowler and he also enjoyed making bread, especially raisin bread. He is survived by his children Patricia D. Van Houte, Sharon L. Van Houte and David A. Van Houte (Ava). He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Marilyn L. (nee Dieterle); his parents, Peter H. and Johanna (nee Almekinder) Van Houte; and his siblings, Susanna T. Thayer, Peter J. Van Houte Viola E. Cornwell and Robert L. Van Houte. The family will receive friends on Sunday November 5, 2023 starting at 3pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 5pm at Abram Creek Baptist Church, 18664 Sheldon Road, Brook Park. Bobby L. Skaggs, 91, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, after a long illness, just a few months before his 92nd birthday, at The Avenue at North Ridge. He was born December 29, 1931, in Charlston, West Virginia. Bobby graduated from Ansted WVA Highschool in 1949. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, as Military Police. Bobby was a real estate broker in Howenwald, Tennessee. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bobby enjoyed golfing, boating, and fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman, and in his younger years he did a lot of big game hunting. In his lifetime Bobby has been a member of several organizations. Bobby was a Free Mason of West Shore Masonic Temple, a lifetime member of VFW Post 1079, the Elyria Moose Lodge 778, the Amvets Post #32, the Elyria American Legion, and a lifetime member of M. O. C. (Cooties), the Korean War Veterans Association, and served as the Captain for the VFW Honor Guard. He is survived by his six children, Cliff Skaggs (Ying), Rick Skaggs (Judy), Sherri Warner (Denny), and Ardie Smith (Ed), Mark Skaggs (Anne). And Mary Cheny; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; two brothers, James Skaggs (Pat), and Dean Skaggs; two sisters, Nancy Gallagher, and Dee Kumpar (Steve). Bobby was preceded in death by his loving wife of 19+ years, Ethel I Skaggs; his father, Clifford Skaggs; his mother, Mary J Skaggs; and his sister, Peggy Skaggs. Eloise Howard, 96, passed into eternity to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 22, 2023. Eloise was born in the coal mining town of Widen, West Virginia on October 15, 1927, and grew up in a small 2-bedroom home with her seven siblings. She married Gilbert in 1946 and they had six children over the next 20 years; a matched set of three girls followed by three boys. They lived in West Virginia, and then Ohio starting in 1952; the longest periods in Columbia Station, Strongsville, and Elyria. Gilbert came to trust in the Lord in the late 1940s and Eloise did shortly thereafter. This led to a devotion to God that caused them to study His Word and serve in His churches for the rest of their lives. Eloise had been back in the Northeast Ohio area since 1998 and was a vibrant member of Grace Church of North Olmsted. Over the years many said her genuine and friendly interest in them was a great cause of their own connection to the church. Eloise was a devoted wife to her husband Gilbert, being an energetic helpmate to him for 51 years. She was a dedicated mother to her children, providing for day-to-day needs in a loving way, and liberally sprinkling in fun times and games. She spoke of her love of Christ and prayed for her children and grandchildren. She is called "blessed by her children" (Proverbs 31:28). Eloise worked in various roles in her life to help her family and community. She was an aide in the Strongsville School system for many years, and more recently was a volunteer at the Elyria Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her daughters Sandy Kurcsak (Norm), and Terri Geneaux , and sons David Howard (Suzy), and Steve Howard (Becky), brother Sterling Nettles (Norma), and son-in-law Dave Ott. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Eloise is preceded in death by her husband, daughter Linda Ott, her son Danny Howard, son-in-law Dan Geneaux, and great-grandchildren Ethan and Natalie. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 11:00am until the time of the service at 12:30pm at Grace Church of North Olmsted, 4816 Dover Center Rd, North Olmsted. Pastor Dean Good will lead the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted where she will be buried with her husband Gilbert and son Danny. On Friday, October 20, 2023, at the age of 82, Sandra A. Hales peacefully departed from this world in the comfort of her North Ridgeville home. Her journey concluded with grace as she succumbed to complications from cancer. She was born July 3, 1941 in Oakdale California. A cherished resident of North Ridgeville since childhood, she was a graduate of North Ridgeville High School and she attended Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea for two years. Sandra made an incredible mark on the community. For many years, she dedicated herself to the special education department at North Ridgeville Middle School, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of countless students. Additionally, Sandy shared the joy of working alongside her husband Jim, at the family business, Hales Florist in North Ridgeville. She was an active member for many years of North Eaton Christian Church. Sandra's green thumb was well-known, and her passion for gardening manifested in the beauty that surrounded her home. A true nature enthusiast, she found solace and joy in the outdoors. Above all else, Sandra loved her family and spending time with each and every one of them. Her favorite times were holidays when she was able to gather with her loved ones. She reveled in the warmth of her close-knit family. Sandy also enjoyed traveling, especially to the Caribbean and Amish Country. Sandra Hales is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Jim, and they leave behind a legacy of love and commitment. She is also survived by her children, Greg, Dean and Julie; her grandchildren, Trevor, Kellie, Kaley, Daphnie, Heath, Zack, Molly, Brittany, Jane, and Logan; and her great-granddaughter, Josie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Nora Cole, and her brother, Gary Cole. Harry Bryant, age 70, of North Ridgeville, passed away October 10, 2023, after a long illness. He was born February 2, 1953, in El Paso, Texas, and spent time in Austin, Texas, before moving to Westlake, Ohio where he graduated from Westlake High School in 1971. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Sabat-Bryant (nee Sabat) who he married July 26, 1980, in Cleveland, Ohio. He is survived by his brother Robert R. Bryant Jr. , (Katy) of San Antonio, TX, daughter Megan Ann Bryant Meslovich (Joe) of Phoenix, Arizona, and numerous nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert R. Bryant on June 1, 2000, and Barbara (nee Skinner) on March 6, 2011. He was employed by Kirkwood Carbon (Cleveland), before working as a brakeman, firemen and engineer of the Southern Pacific Railroad, the Complete Reading Electric (Cleveland), and finally finding his place as a true and devoted Union man, with the United Transportation International in Clevland, Ohio. Harry loved all things involving birds, and was an avid waterfowl and grouse hunter, with his beloved Brittany Spaniels. He had many varied interests such as Aquaculture, Ornithology, and Aviculture. He was well known in the Aviculture world, keeping cockatoos, cockatiels, parrots and raising many Australian and African Finches for the cage-bird fancy, some bred for the first time in captivity. He also spent time with his friends searching old estates, antique shops, and old bookstores for old hunting and bird books. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
