Bronwyn Mary Haran Harris passed away peacefully in Rice, Washington on November 1 after a short but intense battle with a very aggressive brain tumor. She was surrounded by many loving members of her large family. Bronwyn was born and raised in San Francisco, California, the third child of James and Maura Haran on February 2, 1954. Although she lived most of her adult life in a rural setting, she never lost her love for San Francisco. Bronwyn always had an appreciation for nature and the environment, and received a bachelor's degree in Biology from Sonoma State University in California. She then worked in the Sonoma State library which started a long career serving in libraries, which she continued after moving to Stevens County. In 1993, Bronwyn moved to the Rice area and became an integral part of her sister, Deirdre's growing family and the local community. Soon, she was not only aunt to her nieces and nephews, but became "Aunt Bronnie" to many of the neighborhood kids as well. She was hired to work at the Colville Community College library and later moved to the Stevens County Rural Library District, where she retired from the Kettle Falls branch. She thoroughly enjoyed working with young people, introducing them to new ideas and concepts. In Rice, Bronwyn met Doug Harris. They were married in 1998 and lived in Evans, Washington until Doug's death in 2007. She then returned to Rice where she purchased a home. Later, while working at the library, she met Ray Depuydt, and they remained sweethearts until her passing. Bronwyn was known for her wit and sense of humor. She loved hiking, cross-country skiing, gardening, and foraging for huckleberries and mushrooms. She had wide-ranging love of popular music styles, particularly playing jazz and Frank Sinatra songs on the piano. Bronwyn grew up with 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Harris, her parents, Jim Haran and Maura Landy; stepfather Jim Landy; stepmother Loyce Haran; sisters Mary Cleere Haran and Deidre Abeid, and sister-in-law Susan Haran. Bronwyn is survived by her long-term partner, Ray Depuydt; her brothers Terry, Tim (Mariella) and Ned Haran; her sisters Ethne Bullick and Brigid Haran; her brothers-in-law Simon Abeid and Brian Bullick; her nieces Teal Bullick, Caitlin (Phil) Trusler, Claire (Logan) Worley, and Angela Haran; her nephews, Jeff (Tesa) Haran, Alex Haran, Mellad (Sulo) Abeid, J. J. Bullick, and Jake Gifford. Due to the death of her sister, Deirdre, Bronwyn acted as a grandmother to her grand nephews Lawrence and Jullian Worley. Her loving care for them was one of her greatest pleasures. She will be greatly missed by us all. A celebration of life will be planned for the future.
