Lucille Mae Piazza of Clearwater, Florida passed away on her birthday Thursday, November 30, 2023 after a long illness under the care of Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL. Lucille was raised in Alexandria, Virginia. She worked for Cameron Station Post Exchange for 7 years prior to starting her family. After her children were born, Lucille was a stay at home Mom. Lucille was an amazing wife and mother. In 1991 Lucille and her family relocated to Clearwater, Florida. The family enjoyed pool life and boating year round. She loved flowers and plants and all animals. She had a variety of pets over the years. Lucille also loved her afternoon glass of wine and often said it was 5 o'clock somewhere. Lucille is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert Piazza of Clearwater, FL; her two daughters, Cindy Wright (Dan) of Palm Harbor, FL, and Carrie DiScioscia (Jorge) of Clearwater, FL; her beloved granddaughter, Tessa Mae; step-granddaughter Kirsten Wright; her sister, Constance Marie Spears of Stafford, Virginia; and her best friend of over 30 years, Betty J. Davis of Palm Harbor, FL; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lucille was preceded in passing by her parents, Connie and Mae Massey; and her sister, Rose Alice Massey-Daggett. Lucille had many nicknames Aunt Lulu, Lucy, and Lou. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p. m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 1 p. m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the funeral home chapel. She will be brought home to Virginia and laid to rest at Spotsylvania Confederate Cemetery in Spotsylvania, Virginia. George H. Johnson, Jr. , 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at his home with his loving family beside him. He left knowing he was loved by his family and his many friends. He is now reunited in Heaven with his loved ones and watching over us here on Earth. George was a proud member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he held the highest honor of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus and Honor America Corps, where he marched proudly. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 320 in Spotsylvania, VA. He loved volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store every Saturday and made so many new friends and saw many old friends. George served proudly in the U. S. Army as a Staff Sergeant for eight years and worked at the Pentagon and State Department before retiring. He spent many years as a HAM operator with the MARS network and a member of the Rappahannock Valley Amateur Radio Club. George was a great friend to all, always had a smile, and was willing to help anyone who needed it. He always lit up a room with his smile, blue eyes, and kindness. He loved talking about his adventures growing up, life on the family farm in upstate New York, and his family. George loved to travel, being with his family, and sharing precious memories. He will be greatly missed and loved eternally. He is survived by his children, Joyce Baker (Johnny) and George H. Johnson III (Gloria); grandchildren Joshua Johnson, Joey Johnson (Jess), and Jeremy Baker; sister Joann Ausland; nieces Jodi Ausland and Laura Johnson; sister-in-law Lorraine Johnson; nephew Edward Johnson (Maria); and beloved cat, Chester. He also leaves behind a very special friend, Amy; and special lunch buddy, Joe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine M. Johnson; son Joseph M. Johnson; grandson Scott Hummer; brother Edward Johnson; and brother-in-law Jim Ausland. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p. m. with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:15 p. m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Wallace Hodges "Hodge" Mann III, 76, of Spotsylvania passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Cardinal Village. Hodge served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University and his Master's Degree from Virginia Tech. He was a local business owner, opening numerous businesses in the area, including the Hat Barn with his wife and son for 23 years. Hodge married the girl next door after helping to unlock her from the bathroom. He loved nothing more than watching his son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports. Hodgie was quite the athlete himself, having been an all-district quarterback, point guard, and a record-setting high jumper for James Monroe High School and a basketball player at Hargrave Military Academy. He spent much of his time in the mountains, hiking, fishing, hunting, cheering on the Noles and Hokies, and loving on his family whom he adored beyond measure. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Cynthia Mann; his son, Justin and his wife, Paulette; three grandchildren, Chelsea Payne (Travis), Makenna (Jarred), and Andrew; and two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Tatum Payne. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Hodges Mann, Jr. ; his mother, Grace Baker Mann; and his sister, Dorothy Morris. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p. m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 9 a. m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery. Jerome John Golden, Sr. , better known as "Jay" or "Gdaddy", passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Jay was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, books and movies about history, trips to the casino, and family beach vacations in the Outer Banks. Jerome was born on July 7, 1940 in Pennsylvania to the late James and Lottie Eva Golden. He and his siblings, Patricia Witulski (Robert), Karen Rowlands (Hank), and Michael Golden (Cindy) grew up in Buffalo, New York. Jay enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on October 23, 1958. As a Marine, he was active in Cuba in the early 1960s and completed two tours in Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion 9th Marines in the late 1960s. Jay was a Drill Instructor at the Officer Candidates School at Quantico and retired as the 1st Sergeant of the Headquarters and Service Battalion in 1980, with 22 years of service. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Jay earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science and worked as a Biomedical Technician for Mary Washington Hospital for over 20 years. In his retirement, Jay loved to spend time with his family. Jay shared 52 years in marriage with the love of his life, Gloria. They were married on December 10, 1971 and have three children, Tammy Berfield (Rex), Kimberly Gaines (Tom), and Jerome Golden, Jr. (Tara). Jay has four grandchildren, Jeniffer Doyle (Justin), Alyssa Crow (Matt), Harrison, and Harlowe. Jay has four great-grandchildren, Jase, Cole, Lane, and Collins. Jay also has many beloved nieces and nephews. Of all of his numerous accomplishments throughout his life, his family was his biggest joy. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p. m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, 1310 Courthouse Road Stafford, VA 22554. This past Thanksgiving evening, November 23, 2023, beloved wife, Joey Smith, was taken by cancer, at age 54. Though she had been ill for many months and hospitalized for several weeks, she remained positive, caring of others, and gave of her unique charm, throughout. She was resting comfortably at home in Stafford, with her husband and dogs at her side that she loved so very much. Joey was fortunate to have retired from a long career at Safeway, so she could spend her time caring for others and the dogs she loved so dearly. Immediately, she provided loving in-home care to her husband's aging parents. She then focused on work at a local kennel and was active with PETA and the SPCA, as well as, the recent rescue and relocation of nearly 4000 Beagles who were being bred at a facility in Virginia that were then sold to laboratories for drug experiments. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Derek; stepchildren Dylan, Dean, and Rhianna; siblings, Kris, Karen, Karole, Kathy, and John; dogs, Bella, Tiny, Wishbone, and Molly. Joey was preceded by her parents, John and Delores; and previous husband, Ronald Withers. She was a tree of life. "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand. " A service will be held at 1:30 p. m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
