On December 20, 1969, Barb married J. Douglas Payne; they were partners for over 42 years until his death on February 20, 2012. Richard "DJ" Booth Jr. Obituary Richard Irvin "DJ" Booth Jr., 32, of Pekin, IL, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, February 18, 2024. DJ Was born on May 1, 1991, in Peoria. He was adopted by his grandparents, Richard I. and Pamela Booth Whited. Surviving are his adopted mother, Pam, of Creve Coeur; his biological mother, Wendy Mackey, of Pekin; his biological father, Elex Mackey III, of San Jose, IL, and one son, Carter Kolesar, of Pekin. Also surviving are one brother, Matthew Mackey, of San Jose, and one sister, Kayla Mackey, of Pekin. His adopted Father, Richard I. Booth Sr., preceded him in death. He worked for All Around Towing in Bartonville before working at Wheel Worx as a fork truck driver, where he was currently employed, last working on Thursday, February 15, 2024. He was an enthusiast of demolition derby. DJ spent countless weekends at the track as a competitor and a spectator, sharing his passion with friends and family. DJ's legacy is etched not only in the tire tracks of the Derby Arena but also in the hearts of those he inspired. His unwavering spirit and joy for life were infectious, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. As we bid farewell to DJ, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest; his memory will forever be joy in the lives of those he touched. Clay Bennett Harper, 22 of Pekin passed away at 11:00 pm, Monday, February, 26, 2024 in South Pekin. He was born in Pekin to Troy and Michelle (Wilson) Harper on June 8, 2001. Clay is survived by; his parents, Troy (Tracy) Harper, and Michelle Harper, both of Pekin; paternal grandparents, Ben and Bev Harper of Pekin; maternal grandparents, Gene Wilson and Nancy Wilson, both of Pekin; grandma Donna Fuelberth of Pekin; one brother, Mason (Vivian) Harper of Canton; and one sister; Kaylin Harper of Pekin. Clay worked as a machinist at Boley Tool. He enjoyed bull riding, hunting, fishing, and welding. He treasured time spent with his family and getting rowdy with his friends. A private Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024. A Celebration of Clay’s life with be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Laura Gray, age 94, passed away on February 25, 2024 at Pekin Manor. She was born on March 30, 1929 to Mearl & Esther (Henrich) Ingersoll in Pekin, Illinois. After her mother passed away she went to the Flanagan Children's Home and later the Tazewell County Children's Home in Tremont where she met her future husband. She married Walter Gray on August 1, 1948. They were married for 73 years. Laura is survived by her daughter Marcia (Dean) Merriman and granddaughter Heidi Merriman. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters; Dorothy Gamber & Millie Griffith and 3 brothers; William, Edward Eugene & Merle Ingersoll. She worked in the Caterpillar, Inc. cafeteria in East Peoria for many years and then was a stay at home mom. Per her wishes cremation has been accorded by Davison Fulton Woodland Chapel. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Parkview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Neonatal Center at OSF St. Francis Hospital or to TAPS in Pekin. Gustav “Gus” Carl Jr, 94 of Pekin passed peacefully away at 7:45 am, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Youngstown, OH on June 25, 1929 to Gustav and Madeline E. (Musshafen) Carl Sr. He married Marian E. Friedrich on May 26, 1957 in Pekin. She survives. Gus was preceded in death by; his parents, one brother Walter; and one sister, Irene Oertel. He is also survived by; one son, Steven (Julie) Carl of Delavan, IL; four grandchildren, Austin, Rachel, Sarah, and Samuel Carl; and two sisters, Gertrude Nichols of Pekin, and Margaret Fredrick of Trenton, MI. Gus was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Pekin where he had served as an usher. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He then worked at Soldwedel-Borden Dairy until he purchased what is now Carl & Nichols Shell in 1959. He retired from day-to-day operations at the age of 80. It was a sad day for him, he loved so much to work. He was a lifetime member of the Elks. Gus was a kind and considerate man, who enjoyed talking to both young and old alike. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, softball, football. Gus was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. His greatest joys were his wife, Marian going on 67 years, his son, Steve and his grandchildren who meant so much to him. His Funeral will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 101 N. 8th St, Pekin IL with Rev. Judy Kennedy officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Friday, March 1, 2024 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr, Pekin, IL. An additional visitation will be one half hour before the Funeral at 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin with military honors provided by the United States Army. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.

John H. Fardel, 89, of Pekin, IL passed away at 10:13 AM Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at his home. John was born on March 13, 1934 in Pekin to John T. and Frances R. (Tassart) Fardel. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Logsdon and his longtime companion, Dorothy Daugherty. Surviving are: two sons, Chris Fardel of Topeka, IL and Rocky Fardel of Pekin; three grandchildren, Zachery (Lauren) Fardel, Dustin (Dawn) Fardel and Dallas (Kendall) Fardel; one great grandchild, Zander Fardel; Dorothy’s daughter, Brenda Yost-Weber. John was served in the United States Army serving from 1956 – 1958. He was a policeman for the City of Pekin, retiring at a Captain after 20 years. There will be no services. Cremation will be accorded with inurnment in Lakeview Cemetery at a later date. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with John's arrangements.

PEKIN ~ Steven Scott Shirley, 66, of Pekin, passed away at 7:43 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2024 at his home. He was born June 17, 1957 in Pekin to Chester and Genevie (Scott) Shirley. His mother survives. Surviving is his mother, Genevie Gerrard of Simpson; one son, Jesse (Rachel) Shirley of Pekin; three grandchildren, Maximus, Norah and Veda, all of Pekin and close family friends, Eileen and Jack Lash of Pekin. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Jack Gerrard; one son, Gordon Shirley and his maternal grandparents, Verda and Aubrey Scott. Steven was a jack of all trades and loved working on motorcycles. He had worked at Phat Jax Custom Cycle in Pekin, retiring in 2007. He also played guitar, harmonica and sang in many local bands. Steven took up ranching in New Mexico as well. A gathering celebrating Steven’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Lisa Renee Barner, 57, of Pekin, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at her home. She was born January 3, 1967 in Bloomington to Robert and Connie Southerland Sablotzke. She married David Barner on June 4, 1988 in Minier, and he survives. Also surviving are four sisters, Marcia (Les) Wilwerding of Michigan, Robin (Steven) Clark of North Carolina, Missy (Albert) Bugbee of Rockford, and Angela (Sherif Osman) Lauritson of North Carolina; two stepbrothers, Kenny (Sara) Lauritson of Texas and Kevin Lauritson of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Lisa worked in healthcare in Missouri for nine years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Minier. Lisa and David worked in the missionary field in Missouri for 24 years. She loved to sing and was a member of the gospel group, Gospelites, which sang at many camp revivals. Her heart was serving the elderly. Her funeral will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont. PEKIN ~ Pamela “Pam” Ann Simpson, 55, of Pekin, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2024 at her home. Born June 6, 1968 in Morris, she was the daughter of Jerome Charles and Judith Kay (DeWitt) Sokolowski. She married Ronald Lee Simpson on August 11, 1991 in Pekin at First Assembly of God. He survives. Also surviving are her mother, Judith Kay (DeWitt) Sokolowski of Pekin; her father and stepmother, Jerome and Elaine Sokolowski of Dunlap; three siblings, Scott Sokolowski of Pekin, Kristen (Robert) Sokolowski Smith of Munster, Indiana and Kim Jones of Stanley, North Carolina; six nieces and three nephews. Pam worked as a traveling certified nursing assistant for 23 years. She last worked in 2018. From 1987 to 2010, Pam worked at Pekin Manor in their Alzheimer’s Unit. She enjoyed camping and fishing and playing the piano. She also enjoyed art and drawing and was an involved member of the deaf community on behalf of her husband. Pam was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pekin. She enjoyed reading the Bible and participating in Bible studies. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Pekin. Pastor Vernon Risner will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the memorial service at the church. Cremation has been accorded. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
