Mrs. Barbara Ann Morgan, 68, of Ruth, MS passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2023, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Morgan was born August 27, 1955 in Morgan City, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Margaret Herford and Hampton Dozar, both of which preceded her in death. She attended First Baptist Church in Summit, MS. She enjoyed spending time with her family as well as her husband of 44 years; they enjoyed going to garage sales, shopping pawn shops, and day trips finding a great bargain. She was a woman with a big heart and was always willing to help others in need. She is survived by her husband, Gene Morgan Sr. of Ruth; one son, Gene Morgan Jr. (Tammy); one daughter, Anna Morgan; two sisters, Rose Mary Walters and Cynthia Cotton; four brothers; Floyd Herford, Lloyd Herford Jr. , Paul Dozar and James Dozar; four grandchildren, Austin and Kylan Sterling, and Rebecca and Reed Morgan; a long time friend, Sheree Strickland, and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Sharkey Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, September 13, from 5:00 until 9:00 PM, and the family will also receive visitors the next morning at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until time of service. Anna Jane McManus Brumfield, age 91, died peacefully at McComb Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, November 29, 2023. Jane was born June 22, 1932 in Pike County where she was blessed to have been reared and loved by wonderful, Christian foster parents, Frank and Martha Myers, along with a number of foster brothers and sisters. Jane was a loving Christian who was loved by all. Early in life she was a home maker, busy rearing and herding three sons. For a few years, she worked in the cafeteria at Jones Elementary School and later in life, was employed by Jitney Jungle Supermarket and later traveled with A. C. Nielson Company performing inventories in area stores. Later in life, she, along with second husband Mead Brumfield, truck farmed on the Brumfield Farm in Progress, MS, and provided fresh vegetables to several local food stores as well as to individuals. Jane and first husband David Lee McManus reared three sons, who provided many adventurous days. Several years after the death of husband David, she married Mead Brumfield and became a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church near Progress, MS. With the 2nd marriage, Jane acquired 5 more grown children, several grandchildren, subsequent great grandchildren and a host of new friends and neighbors. Jane is predeceased by her foster parents, husband David Lee McManus, Sr. , husband Mead Brumfield, sons Robert Keith McManus, David Lee McManus Jr. , daughter in law Janella McManus, son John Brumfield and a special sister-in-law, Sylvia Brumfield. Survivors include: Bill McManus, (Linda), daughter in law Rebecca Tynes McManus, Terry Brumfield, (Pat), daughter Carol Brumfield Breland, (Tony), Meadette Brumfield, and Gwen Brumfield Ginn, (Robert). In addition, grandchildren, Anna Louise Burris, (Bert), Robin Spring, (Curt), Allison Miller, (Todd), Jason McManus, (Jac), Jeff Brumfield, (Lori), Davey Brumfield, (Chrissy), Kent Brumfield (Carol) and a host of wonderful great and great-great grandchildren and special niece Stacie Stinson, (Ralph). In Jane's later life, she greatly benefited from the loving, compassionate care and generosity of neighbors, friends and church members in the Progress community. Carol and Tony Breland and Pat and Terry Brumfield provided daily support of her daily needs in her later years in a most loving and caring way. The Feed My Sheep program of Silver Creek Baptist Church provided Thursday meals to Jane and others in the community for years. These meals were much anticipated and appreciated. The visitation with the meal delivery was appreciated by Jane as much as the meal itself. Visitation for Jane will be Friday, December 1, from 9:00 a. m. until services at 11:00 a. m. at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS. A private burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. At sunrise on November 16, 2023, Kathryn Lee Jackson Brister was walked to the gates of Heaven and surrendered to the arms of Jesus with rejoicing and prayer by her husband and their children in their family home. Kathryn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 58 years, Michael C. Brister. Together Kathryn and Mike instilled a hard work ethic, a love for family, and an unshakable love for Jesus in each of their children and grandchildren. Kathryn was a lifelong, active member of Friendship Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the choir and served on many committees and in many capacities including teaching children's Sunday School and youth Discipleship Training. Kathryn was a 1963 graduate of North Pike High School where she was a cheerleader, Miss North Pike, and salutatorian of her graduating class. She was very active in Pike County 4H and also served as Pike County's Dairy Princess. While her children attended North Pike, she served the school as a classroom mom and was a member of the PTA, Band Boosters, and served as Band Booster President. She received an Associates of Arts from Southwest Mississippi Junior College where she was active in many activities including the Baptist Student Union, Dormettes, band, stage band and choir. Among many things Kathryn enjoyed in life was her passion for music, singing, and playing the piano. She was an accomplished seamstress, incredible cook, and expert baker. She loved Christmas and has a remarkable Santa collection. Over the years, Kathryn worked as homemaker, bank teller, tax specialist, and ended her work career at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center after 12 years. She was a member of the Judith Robinson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also served on the Pike County Miss Hospitality committee. Kathryn was instrumental in organizing and establishing the Friendship Fire Department. In early years before there was a central dispatch service, when the fire department was needed, she would field phone calls and call each fire fighter to respond. She was a dedicated volunteer of 50 years with the fire department alongside her husband, Chief Michael Brister. Kathryn served in various capacities including serving in the women's auxiliary as well as serving on the Board of Directors. She was born on May 23, 1945 to Charles Everett Jackson, Sr. and Ilda Lee McCulley Jackson who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kristilee Michele Brister-McDaniel and Karollee Michele Brister-McDaniel. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael C. Brister, their children Cynthia Hodges (Bob), Dwain Brister (Brandi), Kathlena Thomas (Chad), Kalee E. Brister, and Karinlee Michele Brister, 9 grandchildren, Robert Hodges, Richard Hodges, Leeanna Terrell (Nick), Katelee Thomas Cloys (Brian), and Kyler Thomas, Kathrynlee Michele Brister-McDaniel, and Jackson Lee Brister-McDaniel, 3 great-grandchildren, Evan Hodges, Noah Terrell, and Leah Kathryn Cloys. Irene B. Travis, 89, of Felder Campground community, passed away on November 13, 2023, at King's Daughters Medical Center, Brookhaven, MS. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, 5 PM to 8 PM and Sunday, November 19, 2023, 1 PM until services at 2 PM. All visitation and funeral services are to be held at Felder United Methodist Church. Rev. Danny Speed will officiate. Burial will be in McEwen Cemetery. Sharkey Funeral Home, Summit, MS, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Travis was born November 6, 1934 in Pike County to the late Merton and Eva Alexander Boyd. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In 1955 she married James W. Travis, who served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and later was employed by Freeport McMoRan Sulphur Company, Port Sulphur, LA. They were blessed with their family of five children who were all born between January 1957 and June 1963. She was a member of Felder United Methodist Church and was very active in various capacities over the years, namely as Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher and was involved in numerous Outreach Ministries for the community. She was a woman of great faith, loved to cook and all the other responsibilities of taking care of her big family, along with gardening, writing God-inspired poems and stories that have been enjoyed by family over the years. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, brothers, Chris L. (C. L. ) Boyd and Aubrey D. Boyd. She is survived by three sons, Robbie M. Travis, Jayess, James W. Travis, (Cindy) Jayess, William M. Travis, (Rhonda) Magnolia, two daughters, Suzette T. Blanton, (Robert) Summit, Inette T. Dr. Henry L. Lewis, III, 85, passed from this life on Friday, September 1, 2023, at his residence with his loving wife Bettye by his side. He was born on November 26, 1937, in Liberty, MS, to Henry L. Lewis, Jr. and Lois Carter Lewis. Dr. Lewis received an Associate of Arts Degree from Southwest Community College in 1957. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Millsaps College in 1959, and his M. D. Degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1963. He was licensed to practice medicine by the State of Mississippi in 1963, and served an internship at Wilford Hall, USAF Hospital in San Antonio, TX in 1963 - 1964. He served as Chief of Aerospace Medicine at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington State from 1964 - 1967 and as a flight surgeon, Joint Chiefs of Staff Project, Combat Lady. He had a Family Medicine Practice in Magnolia and McComb, MS since 1967, and served as an Elder at Unity Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1983. He served as Director of Emergency Services at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center from 1976 -1983; member of the Emergency Medical Board from 1976 -2005; on faculty, University of Mississippi School of Medicine as Clinical Instructor, then as Associate Professor from 1979 - 2005; and was Alumnus of the Year at Southwest Community College in 1996. He was board certified for Family Practice by the American Board of Family Practice in 1977; a Fellow at AAFP in 1980; advanced trauma life support instructor from 1981 - 1992; Chief of Staff at SWRMC in McComb, MS from 1984 - 1985; member of the Board of Trustees, SMRMC from 1987 - 1994 and President from October, 1993 to October 1994; certified of added qualifications in Geriatrics, ABFP in 1992; Medical Director at McComb Extended Care, McComb, MS from 1993 - 2003; Medical Director, SMRMC from 1995 -present; team physician for high school and community college football teams from 1995 - 1999; Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider in 1999; and completed sports medicine review in Kansas City, MO, AAFP in April 1999. He served as Medical Director at Camellia Estates since April 2000, at Liberty Community Living Center since November 2000, Beverly Healthcare Southwest Nursing Facility from November 2000 to 2001, Amite County Medical Services since 2006, and Peak Healthcare since 2011. He served on the board of Southwest Community College from 2011 - 2023, and was in the National Registry of Medical Examiners for Federal Motor Carrier Administration since 2017. He was a member of the South Central Medical Society, the Mississippi State Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry L. Lewis, Jr. and Lois Carter Lewis. Survivors are his wife of 44 years, Bettye Lewis, and their daughter Alexis Lewis of Meadville. His children, Jeff (Katrina) Lewis of Liberty, MS, Jennifer (Mark) Babb of South Carolina, Eric (Lisa) Lewis of McComb, MS, Hunter Lewis of Ocean Springs, MS, Erin (Steve) Nichols of South Carolina, and grandchildren, Kristin (David) Simmons, Erica (Herbert) Icasiano, Regan (Theresa) Lewis, Seth Lewis, Daniel Nichols, and Andrew Nichols; great grandchildren, Lauren Grace and Seren: brothers, Carter (Bobbie) Lewis and Bill (Nancy) Lewis; beloved brother and sisters-in-law, Dee and Judy Branning of Sharon, MS and Evelyn (Robert) Hayman of Brandon, MS; numerous beloved cousins; and a host of family and friends. Mrs. Anna Dean Golmon, 86, of Smithdale, MS passed from this life on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Camelia Estates in McComb, MS. She was born on September 1, 1936 in Port Arthur, TX, to John Oliver and Mary Delino Oliver. Dean was well known for her 20 years of service at Day Motors/Peterbilt of McComb. She also worked as a personal secretary to Mr. Charles Day during her time there. She was "Big Mama" to all of her co-workers who viewed her as the office nurse, counselor, chef, and detective. She was always well dressed and her hair was going to be fixed and in place. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and always wanted to make sure that there were fresh brownies and cookies when they came to visit. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Buford Golmon; one daughter, Charlotte Webb Carrier; one brother, Buddy Oliver; and two grandsons, Curtis Smith and Josh Golmon. She is survived by two daughters, Renae Williams (Jim) and Ann Sharp (Eldridge); one son, Mark Golmon (Anita); one sister, Janice Hollis (Larry); one brother, Terry Oliver (Pat); one sister-in-law, Dodie Oliver; six grandchildren, Michelle Leblanc, Bridgette Smith, Jacob Golmon (Chelsea), Morgan Golmon, Logan Sharp, and Tanner Sharp; eight great grandchildren; longtime friend, Tommy Nylin; honorary grandchildren, Travis Ann Nylin, Taylor Ann Nylin, James Lee Westbrook, as well as their children; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Mr. Gregory Dunaway, 58, of Summit, MS passed from this life on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA with his loving family by his side. He was born on November 19, 1964 in McComb, MS to Marshall "MJ" Dunaway and Lovell Brown Dunaway. Mr. Dunaway was retired after 31 years of service as a Superintendent for the MS Dept Of Transportation and was self-employed as a food vendor for 27 years at many festivals and street fairs locally and out of state. He especially loved cooking chicken-on-a-stick and funnel cakes and teaching others what he knew about being a vendor at such events. He loved catering fundraisers for local organizations such as Relay4Life, P. A. L. S, Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs and many different baseball teams and churches. Many referred to him as "the chicken-on-a-stick man" and he loved it! He was also a very talented woodworker and could make just about anything from beautiful cabinets to children's toys. He was a very hard worker and a devoted family man, dependable and trustworthy. He loved his wife and family more than anything in this life. He will be sadly missed by those who knew him and loved him. Preceding him in death were his parents MJ Dunaway and Lovell Dunaway; one brother-in-law, Lonnie Keist and niece Sara Keist. Mr. James Buford Golmon, 86, of Smithdale, MS passed from this life on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA. He was born on August 23, 1936 in Franklin County, MS, to Elva and Nora Golmon. He was a lifelong member and deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a quiet, simple, hardworking man. Raising vegetables was not only something he enjoyed, but it provided for his family and community. He retired from International Paper Company after 44 years. After retirement he enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Barbara Storm (Fred) and Sarah Townsend (Charles); and one brother, Wilton Golmon; one brother-in-law, Buddy Oliver; two grandsons, Curtis Smith and Josh Golmon. After a day of struggling in the loving arms of her family, she went to rest with Jesus till the end of this age. She was the firstborn, daughter of Erick Humberto Ixcaco Palux and Lilian Amadai Pastor Ambrocio, both of Suchitepequez, Guatemala. She is survived here in the United States by maternal relatives: Great grandfather Jose Ajche, Aunt Adelaida Pastor, Marley Ambrocio, Felipe Gomes, Ilmi Ambrocio, Maryorit Ambrocio, and Rosa Ambrocio. Paternal survivors in the United States are Great uncles Esteban and Diego Palux, Domingo, Edwin and Juan Xum and Cristina Macario, along with other loving family still in Guatemala.
