Barbara May (Elliott) Monette, 92 of Williamstown, MA died on Saturday October 7, 2023 at Williamstown Commons. She was born in Bristol, CT on May 2, 1931, a daughter of James and Mabel (Chenaille) Elliott. She came to North Adams as a child and attended local schools. Barbara worked for the Clark Biscuit Co. and Sprague Electric Co. She was last employed by A Shapiro & Sons Scrap Metal. She was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church. Her first husband was William Dami who died in 1969. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Pytko of North Adams and two grandchildren, Michelle Kemp and Cassie Dami Boucher. She also leaves seven great grandchildren including Hannah, Isiah, Alizjah, Justin, Jacob, Jaelyn and Ashton; her brothers, James Elliott and Robert Elliott and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, William R. Dami in 2004. Betty S. (Sprowson) Walsh Barron, 94 of Williamstown, MA died Wednesday December 6, 2023 at Williamstown Commons. She was born in North Adams, MA on January 28, 1929, a daughter of William H. and Florence (DeGuzzi) Sprowson. She graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1947. Betty was last employed by the Williamstown Visiting Nurse Association for about 12 years until her retirement. Before that, she worked at the Hoosac Cotton Mill, Newberry's, Carroll's Restaurant and the Dug-Out Restaurant. She was a member of the former Williamstown Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and reading. She was the widow of Charles A. Barron who died in 1990. They were married in 1980. Her first husband was Lawrence Walsh who died April 11, 1978. Survivors include two sons, Lawrence W. Walsh of Yulee, FL and Paul C. Walsh (Patricia) of Green Cove Springs, FL and one stepson, William C. Barron of IL. She also leaves four grandchildren including Patrick Walsh, Pablo Walsh, William Walsh and Jennifer Lynn Dettelback; a great grandson, Christopher Walsh, son of Patrick; one brother, Edward Sprowson of Hamden, CT; one sister, Emily Filiault of Stamford, VT and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister, F. Mae Sprowson Osborn; James, William and Albert Sprowson. Peter S. Willmott, 86, died November 11, 2023 at home in Williamstown, Massachusetts surrounded by family. He was born June 1, 1937, in Glens Falls, NY to the late Charles Sherman and Ellen Clark Willmott. He graduated from Glens Falls High School (1955), Williams College (1959), and Harvard Business School (1961). Peter had an unrivaled passion for Williams College and dedicated more than sixty years of service to the college. He served on the Board of Trustees from 1983 to 1998, with ten years as Chair of the Executive Committee. He was also an ardent supporter of the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, joining the Board in 1999 and serving as President of the Board from 2005 to 2015. Peter began his career in New York City at American Airlines and Booz, Allen & Hamilton. In 1966 he became Vice President and Treasurer of I. T. T. Continental Baking Company. Peter joined Federal Express in Memphis, Tennessee as Chief Financial Officer in 1974. He later served as President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx from 1980 to 1983 and continued on as a member of the Board of Directors until 2009. While in Memphis, he served on the boards of First Horizon Bank and Morgan Keegan, Inc. Peter was a Trustee and Board Chair at St. Mary's Episcopal School, a Senior Warden at Church of the Holy Communion, and a Board Member of the Boys and Girls Club of Memphis. He was inducted into the Society of Entrepreneurs in 1992. In 1983, Peter joined Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in Chicago, Illinois as Chairman, President, and CEO. He subsequently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Fleming Companies and Zenith Electronics. He also served on the boards of Browning Ferris Industries, International Multifoods, Maytag Corporation, Nicolet Instrument, Mac Frugal's Bargains Close-outs, Inc. , Interstate Hotels, and Lebhar-Friedman. Peter was deeply engaged in civic service in Chicago, serving as Chair of the Board at Children's Memorial Hospital, and as a member of the boards of the Associated Colleges of Illinois, Chicago United, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Newberry Library, and Francis W. Parker School. He had a life-long association with Camp Dudley in Westport, New York and was a member of the Board of Managers. Many enduring friendships began at the camp. Peter had a passion for thoroughbred horse racing and established Willmott Stables in 1990. He owned and bred numerous accomplished horses. He served as the Chair of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and as a Steward of the Jockey Club. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Michele, and their children Audrey Prieboy, Matthew Willmott, and Christopher Willmott (Rachel). Peter is also survived by his children from his first marriage: Cindy Belisle (Craig), Sarah Cowens (Tom), John Sherman Willmott, David Willmott (Catherine), and eight grandchildren: Sarah, Mollie and Caroline Belisle; Ellen Harrison (Blaine) and Margaret Cowens; and Charles, Wylly and George Willmott. Peter is also survived by his siblings, brother Clark Willmott (Sheila) and sister Lesley Charlebois (Claude), along with cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation hours will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 from 4PM to 7PM at Flynn & Dagnoli - Montagna Funeral Home, 521 West Main St. , North Adams, MA. Services will be held on Saturday, November 18, at 10AM at St. John's Episcopal Church, 35 Park St. , Williamstown, MA. Richard Richardson Williams of Williamstown, Massachusetts died of pneumonia on August 23, 2023, following a multiyear decline due to brain cancer. Born in White Plains, New York, November 14,1942, he was the son of David and Parthenia Davis Williams. The family moved to Lewiston, Maine when his father became a professor at Bates College. Richard graduated from Lewiston High School and Boston University and earned the MBA degree from New York University. He served in the US Army 1962-1964, stationed in Germany. Richard's career was in commercial banking. He moved to Albany, New York in 1972 as part of Citibank's upstate expansion program. Starting in the 1980's, he worked in Berkshire county banks including First Agricultural Bank, Williamstown Savings Bank, Berkshire Bank, and Pittsfield Co-Operative bank. Dedicated to community service and historic preservation, Richard was active at St. Stephen's Church in Pittsfield and St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown, with the Boy Scouts, Hancock Shaker Village, the Berkshire County Historical Society, and a county-wide scholarship group. A friend said she will never forget his sense of humor and wry smile. Special interests included historic preservation and woodworking. He owned a 1998 Plus 8 Morgan car. He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Elizabeth Brenner Williams; sons John Garland Williams of North Andover, Massachusetts; Peter Bruce Williams of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother David Louis Williams of Athens, Ohio; and grandsons Connor and Ian Williams of North Andover, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his brother Morton D. Williams. A family memorial service will be held at a later date in Garrison, New York, where he will be buried. Charles "Chip" Edward Joffe-Halpern of Williamstown Massachusetts passed away on August 16th 2023 after a long illness. He was born in 1949 in Syracuse NY. He is survived by his wife Ellen Joffe-Halpern, his daughter Rebecca Filson (Brent), his son Noah Halpern (Hillary), his brothers Stephen and Andrew Halpern, and his five (soon to be six) grandchildren Maya, Judah, Marlowe, Evan and Jake. He was predeceased by his mother Sylvia, father Harold and sister Barbara. Chip grew up in a jewish community in Syracuse, NY, the 3rd of four children, where he cultivated his love of Syracuse basketball, photography and golf. In 1977, he earned a Masters in Social Work from the University of Albany. That same year, he found his lifelong partner while working as a clinician at a residential youth treatment school. There he fell in love with his co-therapist, an artist named Ellen Joffe. They were eventually married two years later at Tanglewood in Lenox Massachusetts. Chip served the people of Northern Berkshire Country as a clinical social worker, during which time he received several awards including the NASW award for "Outstanding contributions to the Social Work profession". He later served as executive director of the non-profit Ecu-Healthcare in North Adams. It was at Ecu-Healthcare where Chip found his ultimate professional success and fulfillment helping area residents obtain affordable health coverage. Recognizable in his signature bowtie, Chip excelled at finding creative ways to build relationships and connect with his peers and his community. In one notable outreach campaign to improve local dental care access, he rallied the city of North Adams to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most people consecutively brushing their teeth. Chip would go on to establish himself as a go-to expert in the health policy field, bringing him opportunities to impact policy at the state level. He served as president of the board of directors at Healthcare For All in Boston, and served on the inaugural Health Connector board during the implementation of universal healthcare in Massachusetts under Governor Mitt Romney. Outside of his professional life, Chip was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He intentionally structured his life around being present and available to his children, spending many hours playing catch and running batting practice with his son and daughter, attending their recitals, games and performances. Later in life, his greatest joy was his five grandchildren whom he loved beyond compare. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 21st at 9:00 AM at the Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Funeral Home at 521 West Main Street, in North Adams, MA, followed by burial at Eastlawn Cemetery on Main Street in Williamstown, MA. A Shiva memorial service will be held between 5 and 8pm on Monday evening at 328 Luce Road in Williamstown.
