Miss Fannie Francis Wiliams was called home to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2024, at the James River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Newport News. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John D. Williams & Mammie Williams; brothers, Robert Williams & John Williams; and sisters, Belle Johnson & Mary Williams. She was born in Cape Charles, Eastern Shore, VA on November 14, 1926. Her parents moved to the family house at 915 Old Buckroe Road in Hampton when Fannie was in the 2nd grade. She continued her schooling at Phoenix Elementary and Phoenix High School. After graduating she went to Philadelphia, PA to enroll in Business School. Fannie knew that Hampton was her home so she moved back to the family house. She began her work career at Sears & Roebuck, writing for the Journal & Guide Newspaper, was a typist for Hampton Institute College, and lastly working in the Adjunct General’s Office at the US Army TRADOC Fort Monroe for over 35 years retiring with honors. It was at Fort Monroe where she met and provided training for this young high schooler and musician, Reginald “Reggie” Fox. Fannie knew that there was something special about Reggie and adopted him as her son. Fannie faithfully attended his graduations, piano recitals, concerts, church services, and family gatherings. Fannie was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Hampton where she served as Interim Church Secretary and in the choir. Later she joined Queen Street Baptist Church where she participated in the choir, Sunday School, and served her community by visiting and sharing special Bible pamphlets. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted 2nd cousin and caregiver, Delores Carter of Hampton; adopted son, Reggie Fox (Antonia and their sons, Joshua & Aaron) of Yorktown; nephew, Marcellus Cooney of Richmond; cousins, Audrey Benson, Eunice Nailing, Sharon Carter (her children Dexter, Marrio, & Curtisha), Melvin Carter, Jr. (Donna and their children, Melvin, III, Deonna, Shandrea), and other family & friends. NEWPORT NEWS – James R. Cochran (Jimmy) died Sunday, February 25, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Patricia Hanna Cochran and Dr. James R. Cochran; sister, Patricia James Cochran; and uncles, Rev. Don Michael Hanna, and John Alexander Hanna, Jr (Kathryn Hanna). He is survived by his daughters Kelsey Marie Cochran and Jeanenne Nichole Cochran; his grandson Jacob Sweatman; his sisters, Michele Agnes Cochran (Ben Weeks), Deirdre Moira Cochran, and Brigid Cochran-Parado (Randy); brother-in-law, Judd Barton; nephew, Michael Parado; niece, Hanna Parado; his dog Boatswain (“Boson”), as well as multiple cousins and close friends. Jim graduated from Warwick High School and the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School. He was a member of the Apprentice Alumni Association and had served as president (2016-2017). He also actively participated in Habitat for Humanity for many years. Some of his hobbies included winning bullets in sailboat racing, golfing best ball with good friends, boating on the James River, and socializing out in town. While he was always good for a laugh, some good smack-talk, and a dose of heckling, Jim truly lit up the room with his infectious joy, generous spirit, mischievous grin, and a good word of appreciation. He will be remembered most for his determination, strong work ethic, thoughtfulness, and a keen ability to make others feel like family. The viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown. The funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Newport News, with reception following at Warwick Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23508-5216. Ann Frances Sekerke Bunn, 77, passed from this life to the next on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was born at Langley Air Force Base. Ann graduated from Ferguson High School and as valedictorian from Emory and Henry College. She spent her life as a teacher both in schools and her church. She spent most of her teaching career at Palmer Elementary in Newport News, VA. Her greatest joy came from helping others learn and grow. She served tirelessly as an English as Second Language volunteer and gave countless hours of service to mission and outreach causes including mission trips to South Korea and India. Anyone who knew Ann knew she never sought the spotlight for herself and took immense joy doing all the behind-the-scenes things that allowed others to shine. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Joseph and Pamilia Ruth Sekerke and her brother, Jerry Charles Sekerke. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Robert Wilton Bunn, Sr.; her mother-in-law, Ruby Spady Bunn, and brother-in-law, Raymond Winston Bunn, Jr.; her children, Robert Wilton Bunn, Jr. (Ginger Bunn), Traci Bunn Powers (Bruce P Powers, IV), Lori Bunn Janke (Tobias Janke) and her beloved 7 grandchildren, Ann, Abby, and Brett Powers, Winston, Wesley, and Charlie Bunn, and Liam Janke; her brother, Henry Joseph Sekerke, Jr. and her sister by choice, Reba Dowdy Burkett, as well as 5 nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Michelle Bergeron, Sharon Hargis, Karen Johnson, Gwyn Yates, and Connie and Terry Minnick for the tangible expressions of love shown to our family during this difficult time. A Memorial Service will be held at Orcutt Baptist Church on Saturday, March 2, at 11:00 am followed by a family visitation and a reception in the church fellowship hall. Ann was thrifty with money but generous with love and would be furious that we spent money on this obituary. To honor her memory, do something selfless for another person today. Tony Eugene Poe, Jr., 45, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. `Born in Columbus, GA, he graduated from Jordan Vocational High School. Following graduation, Tony joined the U.S. Navy where he served for 5 years. In 2004 he joined the Newport News Police Department. He served in many capacities including the Canine Unit, Marine Patrol, Hostage Negotiator, the TOU Team, Armored Vehicle Driver, Department Armorer, Training Division and was a Master Police Officer. His dedication to the NNPD will be truly missed. Tony was a member of the FOP and served as Vice President and was a member of the Warwick Masonic Lodge No. 336. He enjoyed watching European Soccer games and the Atlanta Braves. Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Regina Lee O’Dell. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kimberly J. Poe; his beloved children, Tyler Eugene Poe and Erin B. Poe all of Newport News; his father, Tony E. Poe, Sr. and his stepmother, Deborah Poe of Columbus, GA; his stepfather, James O’Dell of Waverly Hall, GA; his brother, John Poe of Columbus, OH; and step-siblings, Shana Robinson of Mauk, GA, Heather Kirkland of Hamilton. GA and Jonathan Phillips of Butler, GA. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Frist Baptist Church, Newport News with full NNPD Honors.
