Tom Bucka, 79, passed away Sunday, February 25th, 2024. Born April 22, 1944, in Aliquippa, PA, to the late Walter & Helen (Szost) Bucka. Tom served in the Marines as a radio operator during Vietnam and was a member of SS Phillip & James Catholic Church. Following his military service, Tom worked for United Airlines, American Airlines and retired from AAA Akron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter "Buck" Bucka. John J. Cic, 75 of Canal Fulton, formerly of Clinton, passed away Sunday Feb. 25, 2024 in his sleep. He was born Dec. 14, 1948 in Akron to Frank Sr. and Evelyn Cic and later moved to Clinton to start farming. John was a graduate of Northwest High School in 1966 and after a stint with the Army Reserves, he met the love of his life Linda cruising the Varsity Drive-In. They were married a year later in April 1970. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, exploring the great outdoors and going to classic car shows with his “Brown Truck” a 1975 Ford F250 and won lots of trophies he was so proud of. He also loved his many 4 legged buddies, especially Riley. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Bob and Nicki McBurney, brother, Frank Cic Jr. and brother-in-law, Hugh Cole. John is survived by his wife, Linda; sister, Debbie Cole; nieces Shelley (Greg), Wendy (Dan), Cindy (Ray), Denise (Cliff) and nephew, Aaron (Heather). Randy “Steve” Thompson, 72 formerly of Doylestown, but currently from Canal Fulton, passed away on February 21, 2024. Steve was born on September 4, 1951 to Clarence “Gene” Thompson and Patricia (Stout) Woodward. He graduated from Chippewa High School in Doylestown, Ohio. Steve worked as a Union Bricklayer in Akron, Ohio. He loved to ride his Harley, fishing, and going canoeing. Steve liked to tinker around, build fires, smoke cigars, and being outdoors. He enjoyed making coffee, breakfast, and talking to his friends. Steve enjoyed making cookies with his grandchildren during Christmas and attending their sporting events. He is preceded in death by his parents. Born May 15, 1948 in Beallsville, OH to the late Floyd and Victoria (Truex) Phillips, she was a Canal Fulton resident most of her life. Mary worked at B&W for 19 years, Valley Systems for 6 years, and retired from Diebold after 11 years of service. After retirement she worked at Giant Eagle in Canal Fulton for 6 years. Mary loved gardening, art, researching family history, her dog Jose, and spending time with family, friends, and her monthly visits with the Diebold Dolls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Wilder, brothers, James and John Phillips and sister, Anna Phillips. Rich was always known to have a smile on his face and was always willing to lend a hand when someone was in need. Friends, family and co-workers will remember and miss his ornery nature. He was so loved and will be greatly missed. Richard “Rich” Shiplett, 65 of Canal Fulton, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024. Born December 4, 1958, he was a 1977 graduate of Manchester High School, worked in various trades and retired from the IBEW Local 540 after 21 years as an electrician. He was a member of SS Philip and James Catholic Church and Northwest Touchdown Club. Rich enjoyed boating with family and friends, relaxing in the porch listening to music and spending time with his six grandchildren. Rich loved being a part of the Friday Night Football 50/50 ticket sales, which funds the NW Touchdown Club Scholarships. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Shiplett and brother, Alan Shiplett. David L. Orr, 82, of Canal Fulton, passed away at his home on January 30, 2024. He was born on January 16, 1942, in Shirley, West Virginia, to the late Lester and Francis “Pauline” (Curtis) Orr.He was a 1960 graduate of Northwest High School.Dave worked for the Timken Roller Bearing Co. and had 35 years of service before retiring. He was a longtime member of Anchor Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and member of the choir.He was a proud member of the NRA and avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, and travelling to West Virginia a few times a year to visit family. Dave was also an avid dog lover and had many loyal canine companions over the years; most recently, Molly, who remained faithfully by his side until the very end.In addition, Dave was a member of Performance Ford Club of America; former drag racer and attendee of many cars shows over the years. He also had a passion for riding motorcycles.Above all, he was a devoted family man, a loving father and committed husband. Dave could be described best as an easy going, fun, and quick-witted jokester. His warm personality and his love for his family and friends will never be forgotten.He will be deeply missed by his wife of 50 years, Diana (Strong) Orr; children Bonnie (Ronald) Deitrick, Paula (Anthony) Pellegrene and Dustin Orr; sister Beverly Nidy; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with a 6th on the way.In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his former wife, Claudia “Jean” Orr; his son, Scott Orr; daughter-in-law, Sarah Orr; siblings, Ruth Stano, Sally Didinger, Johnnie Klett, Elsie Bennard and Dwight Orr.The family would like to give special thanks to Crossroads Hospice, The Difference is Family Services (Dif’s), longtime friend, Fred DeGordon and all other family and friends who have helped during this difficult time.A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 9th at 6 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
